RE: Best place to get new batteries?

Consider Interstate batteries. Not the cheapest but I got just over 7 years on a pair of 12 volt engine batteries for my DP. They make a very good product. But their NASCAR driver is terrible :)

RE: Water Heater not keeping up

I'm in tune with the above. Either the outside shower head is turned off and the faucets turned on or you might have the winterizing valves in the wrong position or perhaps only partially in the wrong position. Depending on where they are located, maybe something has nudged itself against one and cracked it open or closed????

RE: Looking to make a generator quieter and cleaner output

The engine noise is your biggest culprit, not the exhaust. Like said above, if it was easy or cheap to quieten your generator, the manufacturer would have already done it to make it more competitive in sales.
If you are concerned with only your personal noise comfort, you can set the generator as far away from your site of course and put up a fabric curtain between the generator any your site. Face the exhaust away from you. I know you and your neighbors wish you the best luck in your quest.

RE: Darn great service - Yuma

I was only allowed in the service area because they needed my input in how I was able to (sometimes) get the King Dome to actually lock onto the satellite. It was a really unique problem.
The dealer is LaMesa RV. I was tenative to mention the name because I've also read some negative threads about them and I didn't want to get in a thread or argument about them. They have treated me very well in the 7 years since I made my purchase from them in Quartzsite. I will add my response to RV Service Reviews.

Darn great service - Yuma

Took my MH in to a Yuma RV dealer for a faulty satellite system, and leaky jack and faulty CO2 monitor.
They worked over 7 hours, three of those hours with me present and helping, to get the King Dome to work. Turned out to be a faulty coax with intermittent faulting and a poor connection inside the dome. The extended warranty wouldn't pay for the diagnosis and repair but the dealer apologized for their taking so long to fix the problem and only charged me for two hours of work. Jacks and CO2 were covered but....I have a $100 deductible and since I purchased the warranty from them, they only charged me a $50 deductable. I couldn't have been happier. This is the same dealer I purchased the MH (used) from 7 years ago. I've had two other dealings for service work with them in the past and results were just as good.

RE: Saw This Flying Around Palmdale, Ca Yesterday

I'm betting that its an RC plane. Could be either a fuel powered or battery powered RC plane. Did it fly completely out of sight? If so then its probably the real thing.

RE: Applying Red Max

I can appreciate the negative comments about using Red Max as a RV (for lack of better word) polish when it is obviously marketed as a floor sealer/polish. But I'm at a loss from those who criticize it but haven't used it or seen the results.
Saying that: if I had a nice full body paint MH with nice clearcoat finish, I'd use a good quality wax and stand back and admire the superior finish achieved with little effort.
But my MH is 11 years old now and its used fulltime and I've waxed the lil' bugger at least 3 times a year with paste wax and mostly all of it shined very well, but....there is some areas, especially the front cap, that just won't take a shine anymore.
I used the Red Max application a little over a year ago and it really looks as good today as the day I finished the application. The front cap looks as good as the rest of the MH.
If, IF the finish starts to dull going forward, and at some time, I'm sure it will, I will first wash and apply a couple more coats. If that doesn't work (I think it will) then I'll use the Red Max remover and reapply four coats again.
And no I don't think it would be the best choice on a Porsche. But I did use it on the black step panel on my Suzuki and its still nice and black.

RE: Did you know Newmar pays their factory workers $30+/hr

It might be because they work under piece-work. So if they can finish an 8 hour job in 4 hours, their pay just doubled? Just guessing.

RE: Checking batteries fluid levels

Using the auto fill battery fill items listed above is the only way to go in your situation. I use it now on only two of my batteries because they are located in a position that you described. I'd put it on all batteries if they weren't so darn expensive for no more engineering than they have. But.....they work as advertised.

RE: keeping track of watts, amps voltage

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/catalog/T-wattmeter.jpg
I use a Turnigy power meter to track my Solar charging
google results for Turnigy
it reads one way only, you need (2), if you want to measure out going loads/drains/use
it tracks my incoming solar charge, i reset it every day ( that is, if I don't forget )
I have the same meter and use it to measure the draw on electric RC planes. I can see how it would work with the size wiring for solar charging measurements but how would you use it to measure the draw of your entire RV? The wiring would be just too small to replace the #2 cable in place now. Even a short run of a small wire spliced in between a section of #2 would be suspect??? What am I missing?

RE: Nook Tablet vs Kindle Fire

My wife is an avid reader and Kindle is her choice. She spends about 10 minutes every morning and evening searching the Amazon site for free books. Some best sellers appear for short periods of time or at the .99 cent price. She feels she made the best choice after a years use.

RE: Selling DP, new tires or not?

I would think that adding the cost of new tires to your older MH will not increase its value by the cost of the tires. You'd be surprised at how many people could care less about the age of tires, only the appearance of them. If they look good, then their happy with them.

RE: Is HD TV That Important

We fulltime and watch a lot of TV. We don't have HD and don't miss it at all. Our DirectTV picture is very very good and we seldom even go to any local channels by antenna to watch a show that is HD.

RE: eyeglasses & prescription drugs

The wife and I just picked up our glasses this morning from Best Optical in Algodones. 2 pair of womens progressive with frames and 2 pair of mens progressive with frames sunglasses. $210.00 total.
We had our own prescription. If we had to have an eye exam that would have been $10 each extra.
Quality is very good and accurate fill. We've used the same Optical place for the last 5 or 6 years with confidence.

RE: JC Penney ad on TV is .....

Granted we can agree that we all hate the screaming Target Christmas commercial and now the JCP screaming add but you have to admit, we all know what commercial they elude to and remember it. I guess by reverse physiology the add works....but for me, like many, because of the irritation factor, I'll be d.... well I won't shop there because of it.

RE: WASHING CLOTHES (crayons were in pocket)

Retired from the Industrial Laundry field a few years ago and faced a (excuse the pun) laundry list of stains that had to be dealt with.
The best single item I ever used was a product called Jinx-ink. Its available at a commercial laundry product distributor only. It works very well on nearly any stain from ink to wax.
