RE: Vent Cover

At the campground office they would usually have a board with advertisements from local handymen. If you are not comfortable on the roof height, check in the office as there is most likely someone local that will come out with parts in hand.

RE: any kz electrical experts on here

Who did you talk with at KZ? Seems odd that they said no schematics available to you. For sure they are the manufacturer and would have these on file, maybe archived and not on e-copy, but they are there. KZ sent my dealer when I requeted schematics of how my coax cable from the antenna is run throughout.

RE: Landing Jacks

I had a loose/ poorly made connection at the landing gear switch itself causing mine to go up but not down. I could move the wiring harness by hand and that got it rolling again.

RE: How do you carry your bikes?

Also using the FMR front mounted receiver. It was an easy bolt-in to the front tow hooks. Modified the bike rack height to lower it closer to the ground. No troubles with it and would do it again.

RE: Shower leaking

Hey Cherry,
Are you seeing a few drops or small puddle come out onto the floor next to the shower? If so then also check the sweep under the door too. Hopefully not a leak under the trailer. I like the DAP brand, has worked well for me.

BTW, what happened with the winterizing last year that you are shying away this year? 2 gallons of AF at $3.50/ ea. and 15 - 20 minutes and all is done? I've seen many places charging upwards of $99.00 for this work.

RE: Beef Stuffed Crescents

We do something very similar but use canned biscuits instead of crescent rolls. Spray PAM into a cupcake pan and smash the biscuit into it then top with meat and then cheese. Cook, and serve with sour cream, black olives, etc. = Taco Cups

RE: Recoat Non-Stick Pots?

Cast iron and cheap non-stick in the trailer and Calphalon in the stick house. The Calphalon has held up great for 7 or 8 years now. 2 years ago one pot had some marks in the bottom and then the non-stick coating wore off. They replaced it no cost / no question. I think one of the girls used a steel spoon inside it, but of course nobody remebered anything...

RE: Grey water valve

I had very similar situation happen to my black tank, and like alpenliter said it is most likely from the internal seal getting jambed up. I cut the underbelly across a joist and pulled it down. Put in new seals and no problem since. My dealer had underbelly tape to put it all back together. Since then no issues.

RE: Black tank valve stuck part way open

My RV dealer stocks underbelly tape, even have just handed over 3 or 4 feet of it. End of last season I had cut my underbelly open along a frame line, disassembled the black tank valve as I also had some leakage when twisting off the end cap, and put in new seals I picked up from my dealer. Took all of 30 minutes and $5 - $10 dollars. It has not leaked since.

RE: Water pump not pumping

Is the water pump positioned above the freshwater tank?
Duh... Most are setup this way. The pumps are self-priming.
Mine is off to the side of the tank, but that shouldn't matter. The other poster had it right about the inlet position. Maybe it was installed too high, or there was a length of tube that used to be conencted on the inside which went to the bottom. I like the way our trailer pulls 1/3 to half full on fresh water.

RE: Reese 16K, 4-way swivel hitch

I have the 18K Signature Series, nice hitch. Mine does not seem to flop around much, on some fast turn I may here it bump from one side but nothing that is annoying. My plate is held to the frame with one pin on each side, it is not greased. There are also two springs on each side that apply positive pressure to the hitch plate. If you remove the plate, make sure these have the spring tabs (front to back)going to each side and not both bound up together. I also spray these with lithium grease along with all the other moving parts.

RE: Trying to find the perfect bunk house

How about your Tow Vehicle? This has a large play in what type of BH 5ver we could help you narrow down to. The Sandpipers, Cedar Creeks, and KZ's have some really nice 355 series BH's, but a 1 ton TV is required.

If just softening to shower in and not for drinking then why not just add Calgon powder or other like softner to the FW tank?

RE: 5th Wheel Chucking Problems . . . .

Is your fresh water tank up front? Fill a 5 gallon bucket with water and count how long it takes, then quadruple that time for 20 gallons into your tank. Water is 8lbs/gal so you can calculate the weights. Next trip try 30 gallons and see the ride difference. I also just added the Equaflex and take a very nice rde down the road, but much better when I'm front heavy.

RE: Installing 3rd AC

Are all the vents open and free in the back? Possibility exists that something is preventing the air to get into the back? Similar 5vr owners have the same complaint? Factory engineers should take all this into consideration before owners need to make modifications...

RE: Front High and Rear to Low by 6 inches

Hey Chris,
Great post going on here and I am also looking for the outcome as we both go down the same path. KZ stands behind their product well, its not any concern to me as Melissa, Rose and many others in Shipshewana have stood up and taken care over the years. Just one point, raising the axles 3" does not necessarily mean raising the trailer height 3" (highest point which is probably the front AC unit) to a total of 14'. Geometry is involved here, but it may mean squeezing KZ for a 4 step stair system :)
My trailer rides so nice and is easily set up. It tracks well and has never left any concern other than I just personally do not like the nose high look. But it was me who decided on the 5th AB and Sidewinder vs. having the slider hitch system. Just to say, I also went with the Hensley hitch system on our previous travel trailer as I like to be in the non-standard. Your posts are documented well and you’re doing a great job keeping us updated. Good work pal.

Cheapo batts that need to be replaced because the dealer let them sit over the winter with a low charge?

RE: Front High and Rear to Low by 6 inches

Have the same issue with my Durango running with 5th AB and Sidewinder, but its not a Ford problem :)
The axels were flipped from the factory and the shackels are on the highest settings. The Reese is keeping the front 7" above the bed rails.
Just had the dealer install Trail-Air Equaflex system which I had read would raise the rear up a few, and it did but not enough. Next will be 16" wheels and tires to replace the factory 15". Not sure if that would be enough to look more acceptable to me or not.
Lastly, lower the Sierra or live with it.
