I had a microlite 2800 in my 5th wheel took it out to loud and extra weight to carry around when not needed. sold it and bought a honda eu3000 .much quieter better on fuel. also if house batteries are low you cant start the onan its happen to me.
How much ya get for it when you sold yours?

Onan Micro 2800 or another honda 2000i companion?

Planing on putting this under or in our small fifth wheel.
Today I found a ONAN 2800 microlite genset at a yard sale for 45 bux.
I asked the man if it worked he said his dad took it out of a motorhome and added a larger gen for a second air unit in bedroom .
So: I get her home thining its probably junk. But hooked her up to some fuel and a good battery and she turns over . Pumped a little sea foam into it to let it sit in carb over nite. fuel dont seem to be getting thru carb.gummed up im sure. A little shot of WD 40 in that carb and SHE FIRES !vrooommmm.
Little smoke outa exhaust but its been garaged for a while.
I think a carb service and this things good to go?
Question should I go thru the trouble adding this to my ultralite fifth wheel? or get another honda 2000i as the companion for the one I have? Running whats this micro lite worth ? 1500 ? 1000? can buy another honda fer that.

But no squatting. road great.
Had to remind my self that I was towing on flat roads.
but on the bumpy ones , I now know what herky jerky means.

RE: Light 5th wheel or TT (another Half ton post)

Just wanted to update this,,
We hooked up and towed around some this morning. And spent some time at a church lot driving in circles. getting the feel of it.
And the ole truck handles the pounds very very well,, dont even squat.
But I can sure feel that 5000lb anchor back there. LOL
one question before we head out.
I know not to use overdrive when towing.
I am running 2600 rpm at 60 mph. ,,, we wont talk about the terrible mpg.
But wondered : is it ok to click into overdrive when going down a hill, At least in order to get a little momentum to crawl the next hill?
And of course drop it back in drive when climbing?
Thanks

Thanks for replies.
yeah I recall it was smooth .just didnt really recall all those hills,LOL
What your you guys say is the best day and or time of the week to take 285.
I hear sunday would be bad, everyone heading home from week end outings.
Morn eastbound traffic heading to denver ?
eve busy westbound?
Reason I ask ,,Folks dont take to kindly to us slower loaded travelers ,Going the speed limit or just under.
And even get a little Tissy when they see your "Texas" plates. ... hehehhe

Hwy 285 Out of Denver towing small 5th wheel

Hello,
We were thinking of taking hwy 285 out of Denver to Buena Vista Colorado next couple of weeks. I have drove it in a jeep,, But how would that rout be for a small 5th wheel behind a not so big truck?
Seem like I recall some pretty steep hills heading west ././

RE: Fleetwood Wilderness 5th Wheel pulled by '03 Dodge Ram

Well,,, we have a small 25ft 4600 lb dry 5th wheel , And a half ton dodge 360 4x4. we are going to try and pull it YES through the rockys .A total of 2400 miles.,Yall keep your fingers crossed for me. .
We have less pounds than yours, and less motor. But feel confident my truck can handle the load, however the dodge being the junk it is.will let you know in Sept.

to Poncha spings CO, from the south "Raton or Poncha pass"

we are heading out soon , wanted to know from you guys what pass is the hardest on a tow vehicle,, Ive been over Raton and its like 7,000 ft. not to steep ..
But I read Poncha pass:
The pass has a mild approach on the northern side and a moderate 5% approach from the south, though it remains open all year round and does not normally cause problems for vehicles in winter.
Would it be a harder crawl than Raton ?

RE: First time ever to tow a fifth wheel,,

I am under the impression that this 5'er on my truck total length of (35 foot) ?>
should be some what more manuverable than our 30 ft class c was ? The spot we camp in was a little tight with the class c , but we made due, I hope the pivot point with the truck and 5'er will give me more maneuverability .

RE: First time ever to tow a fifth wheel,,

oops. typo,, 25 footer
I have pulled regular bumper pulls before. and know that a real short bumper pull trailer is WAY harder to manage when backing than say a 16 foot flat bed.
I hope the same not to be true with a 5th wheel.
