RE: Yellowstone Bound in July; Itenerary suggestions?

What a coincidence, my family and I are doing a similar trip. Except we are traveling from Michigan to the Grand Canyon, up to Bryce Canyon, Zion National, then scooting over to Yosemite, and finally up to Yellowstone/Tetons & Badlands. We are staying at Grizzly RV in West Yellowstone for 10 nights. We are planning on doing plenty of day-trips into the park. Happy trails!

What stabilizers to buy?

OK, I am getting the new 5er ready for the season. I think I want to add some stabilizers, but which ones?

Bear Country

Ok, I am in need of some help. My family and I are going on a big out-west trip this summer with stops in Yellowstone, Yosemite, Zion, Bryce, and Grand Canyon. My wife is concerned about the places that are known for bear country. Can anyone give me some advice so I can calm her down? Her main concerns are food storage and food prep areas. Usually when we camp, we set up an entire outdoor cooking area complete with BBQ, griddles, frying pans, etc. At Yellowstone, we will be staying at Grizzly RV. thanks

RE: yellowstone camping

I too am from Michigan and also planning a big trip out west this coming summer. We just made all of our reservations including a ten night stay at Grizzly RV in West Yellowstone. I had posted a similar request asking for info on campgrounds near Yellowstone. I rec'd a lot of thumbs up for Grizzly.

Best places to overnight camp while driving cross country

My family and I are planning our Summer 2012 vacation. We will be traveling from Michigan to Grand Canyon/Bryce Canyon/Zion NP/Yosemite NP/Yellowstone NP then back home. Obviously we will be staying a few nights on the road to our destinations. What are the best places to do this? In the past we have tried the Walmart thing (just once - didnt care for it), Ohio Turnpike (rest areas had hook-ups - nice), and found State/Provincial Parks near the freeways. I will be loading up on all the campground books and maps.

Need help finding CG near Yellowstone

I am in the need of any recommendations for a CG in or near Yellowstone NP. I will need at least an electrical hook-up and the ability to fill my fresh water tank. I will be looking to stay around 10 nights. Thanks in advance.

Camping near Yoesmite? Help finding a spot

I am trying to find a nice campground near Yosemite National Park. I know all of the CG's in the Park have no hook-ups, so I am looking for something just outside the Park and within an hours drive of all the "goodies" of the National Park. Can anyone recommend a CG? I would like some hook-ups, mostly electric. Thanks

RE: S. Utah NP's hiking with dogs

We stayed at Kodachrome State Park near Bryce and Escalante Petrified Forest State Park. Both of these allowed leashed dogs on their trails. :C I think Grosvenor Arch also allows leashed dogs? (However it may have passed from BLM or USFS management to National Park/or Monument? So the rules may have changed.) Although we didn't stay at Red Canyon - we did stop at the Visitor's Center which is very interesting. Their CG may not be open year round - so you might want to double check? ENJOY Hey, b.boomer, Would you recommend camping 3-5 nights at Kodachrome or Escalnate? We are looking for a central campground to see some of the canyons east of Bryce canyons. We are planning on staying at Zion National park-we heard great things about watchmen campground. Any suggestions on were to stay that can be near day trips to bryce canyon and other canyons east of there? Jeff

Camping in SW Utah

We are planning a trip for next summer ('12). I would like to be able to stay somewhere in SW Utah so we would be able to take day trips to all the parks (Glen, Bryce, Zion, Grand, etc). Any ideas? I would prefer the CG to have at least electrical hookups.

RE: B&W Companion & Short Bed

I have a 2011 Chevy 3500 SRW CC SB and pull a 2012 37' Chaparral with the "cut-corner" front cap. I love the B&W Companion hitch. I have not had any problems taking tight corners.

RE: Looking for good info on bunkhouse 5'ers...

We have a Coachmen Chaparral 330FBH. It is a great floorplan for kids. My girls (9 & 12) really like it. The bunkhouse is in the front with a bunk and futon-like bed. The back of the trailer is the master bedroom with its own bath - NICE.

RE: Towing with a gasoline rig?

I am pulling a 37 footer with a '11 Chevy 3500 6.0, 4.10 axle. I had the whole rig/trailer weighed at Cat Scales at 18,000lbs. Have only had the trailer 5 weeks now. Have not had a chance to pull anywhere else other than the upper midwest. Gas mileage thus far has been 9-10 mpg at 60mph. We are planning an out west trip next summer, looking forward to see how she does in the "hills".

RE: Michigan SPs - Clear Lake, Port Crescent or?

Well, we have toured all over Michigan SP's. Port Crescent is a nice park - if you can get a site close to the beach. Some of our favorites (in no particular order) : Ludington, Wilderness, Tawas, Harrisville, South Higgins Lake, Lakeport, Pontiac Lake, Muskegon, Silver Lake, and Port Crescent. Depending on when you are planning your trip, most of these SP's are very hard to get in.

RE: Chaparral 330FBH Problems?

I picked up our 2012 330FBH on 7/29. We took it out right away for a two week trip. We encountered two heavy rainfalls and no leaks. We did have a few minor problems though. When we picked it up, the kitchen sink was mounted slightly crooked, there was a cabinet door with a serious gouge, and a not-so-smooth rear stabilizer. Fortunately, on our way home from our inaugural trip, we passed right by Middlebury, IN (the Coachmen factory). We stopped by (I did call ahead), a representative met me at the gate, he directed me where to go, and immediately two Amish workers jumped in and fixed everything. While the guys were fixing things, the rep gave me and the fam I personalized tour of the facility. GREAT. I did have one additional problem with the trailer. Just as we were getting packed up for our last trip of this summer, my 12v converter decided to stop working. I called the dealership, they ordered a new converter, they directed me how to make the trailers 12v equipment operate without using the converter, we went on with our vacation, stopped by the dealership on the way home, quick change, and were done. Hopefully, we are done with the annoying problems and we definitely do not want any major problems. Happy Camping!

Just another lube disk question

After reading all the posts about the benefits of a lube plate versus grease, I am ready to buy the disk. But now the question of size. I see there are a few sizes to choose from. I have a B&W Companion. What size do I get? or as they say "size doesn't matter"? Also for any other Companion owners out there that will be reading this, do I still lube the pin/jaws or anything else? Thx

RE: Bikes on TV Roof? Anyone?

The TV will definitely not fit in the garage with the rack on, but the rack is easily installed and removed for trips only. As for my hitch rack I have, it is a Thule wheel mount tray style rack, and the bikes were still a distraction. I would not want to go any lower with the hitch and the overall length of the TV and 5er is quite long.

Bikes on TV Roof? Anyone?

I am still awaiting the arrival of my new 5er (late July). I thought that it would be a great idea to have my four bikes on a receiver hitch rack in the front. Got the hitch and rack installed, loaded the bikes, took the TV out for a trial ride. My vision was a bit impaired. I actually had to fold all the handlebars down and remove the seats to improve my vision. It was still blocked and a little distracting also. So now I am thinking about mounting all the bikes on a Thule roof rack system. Does anyone else carry their bikes on the roof? If so, how is your clearance between the bicycle tires and your front cap? My TV is a crew-cab, so I think I should be fine. Any info is appreciated. THX
