RE: The 96 Monaco Exec I want to buy has Aged Out Tires...

Try putting yourself in his position. You agreed to the price and now you want to come back and get the price reduced. It would anger me and most any seller.
In the overall aspect of the transaction, tires is no big deal. If you like the RV pay the money and put on new tires....be happy!!!

RE: New Monaco Diplomat

I agree with the "OP" on the floor plan. Looked at a "Dip" at "Q" and me and wife agreed, it is one of the best floor plans we've seen in any RV.
Can't help you much on the Navistar engine....but the salesperson said it does not require DEF.

RE: Satellite dish choice

My friend just went thru a similar experience. He was told by a "tech" that his King Dome would need to be replaced for dish network to work. BTW we are also in "Q". Instead of spending the $1000.00 for a new dome, he opted for the $29.99 offer by direct TV to switch from dish network to them. He got this offer thru a guy in the big tent. They came out and had him up and running in less then 10 minutes. He couldn't be happier.

RE: MH wreck

FRONT TIRE BLOWOUT!! Might be an interesting thing for "Myth Busters" to experiment with.
I've had front tire blowouts on a car and 1/2 ton pickup (55 to 60 mph), and neither proved to be difficult to keep control off. But I would assume, an axle carrying 12,000lbs plus may well be a whole new problem.

RE: DP Starter Issues

Your problem could also be a faulty ignition relay. I have a different chassis, but have a cummins engine. I had a problem very similar to yours, changing out the ignition relay, solved the problem.

RE: Does reciprocity apply to total length?

Last year I pulled a 24ft enclosed car trailer with my 40ft DP from Georgia to California to Montana back to Georgia. Seen many troopers along the way, none paid any attention to the length my rig.
The only time I have ever been pulled over by a trooper or law officer, is when I have violated a traffic law...speeding, going thru a red light, etc.) They have never inquired about the length or my rig...they have never inquired or checked if I have an auxillary brake system (when I was towing 4 down).
Drive safe...Drive smart...Enjoy!!!

RE: Oil Change intervals Diesel Pushers?

Brian, If you are using your motor home regularly, every month, I don't think it would hurt a thing going over the year suggestion. Manufacturers suggested intervals, are always on the side of caution.

RE: Uprade to tile floor

If your coach is flexing enough for tiles to break loose, you have some issues.
I have a '97 Signature with real ceramic tile in the kitchen and bath areas. Have never had one tile come loose.
The bluebird I helped my son with, ceramic tile from front of coach to bedroom, has not had one tile come loose in over two years.

RE: Winn System Doesn't Start

I have a '97 Signature....my Winn system hasn't worked in 5 yrs. From the info I gathered on the internet, they are a problematic system, and most people either change them out or do what I do. I just fill the filters when I change them, either with diesel or ATF and it starts right up.

RE: Uprade to tile floor

In my opinion, you can't beat the real thing. Go with ceramic tile.
In the overall scheme of things, it is not adding that much weight.
I helped my son redo his '91 bluebird. He started by hiring someone to do the bathroom. He was thinking of going with hardwood in the kitchen and living room, but liked the look of the ceramic so much that he elected to do the rest with the ceramic tile.
After watching the guy do the bathroom, he decided it was not that difficult of a job, so we did the rest ourselves. We were right...it is not that difficult to do. (He bought a cheap wet saw to cut the tile, but no other additional tools)
Looks and cleans so much better then the old carpet. A couple of nice throw rugs in strategic places, takes care of the cold feeling. No regrets....go ceramic.

RE: Looking at compact car and enclosed trailer options

My rig consisted of a 40ft DP, and a 8.5x24ft enclosed trailer. Inside the trailer I had a Jeep Liberty, a Polaris RZR along with misc. items. My overall length was 70ft...longer then most semi's. (AND NO, I didn't have any problems with the law, and we drove this outfit from Atlanta to California, to Montana, the Dakotas and back to Atlanta.)
"Westernrvparkowner" is correct about not many RV parks having long enough sites to accommodate that length. I can only recall one park, and even that one, when we lowered the back door/ramp we were blocking the road behind us while doing so. We usually had to unhook and park the enclosed trailer in a storage area in the RV park.
Too often I found myself in a situation where making a necessary turn (mostly right hand turns) was impossible. This usually happened driving thru towns looking for a place to park for the night...ie: walmart.
Crackle Barrels were out of the question....we had to be very selective where ever we pulled over or wanted to stop. There were even rest areas where I overhung the designated parking spots. Having the option of unhooking and ability to drive the towed, was vastly unappreciated prior to this expedition.
Before trying this enclosed trailer, we were towing the Jeep Liberty 4 down. No problems. I wanted to bring the "RZR" along so we decided to try the trailer. This year, I'm towing a pickup with the RZR in the box.
NOW...once I arrived at my destination, having the trailer was nice. It was like having a garage and/or storage shed at your disposal.
Your RV is shorter and your trailer is shorter, so a lot of my little problems, may not be problems for you at all. Most of my problems arose when we were in unfamiliar areas, side streets and exploring the unknown.
All in all, towing the trailer wasn't terribly bad, it pulled nice. It's just that life is so much easier with the pickup and RZR setup.

RE: Looking at compact car and enclosed trailer options

I towed an enclosed trailer 1 yr.....hated it....I went back to 4 down.
It wouldn't be too bad if one was always going from point A to point B, but I'm always seeking out new destinations and it just didn't fit into my type of RVing.

RE: Diesel engine longevity in motorhomes questions

Motor home engines are not setup the same as construction equipment, that is for sure. Look at a D6 cat dozer for example. It is equipped with a C9 engine, rated at 185 hp. (It also has a huge radiator.)
Setup this way, you can run that engine wide open all day, day after day. We recently rented a D6 that had over 6000 hrs. It ran and sounded like a new machine yet. I'm sure they expect that engine to do 15,000 hrs before doing any major repairs.
6000 hrs would equate to 250 to 300,000 miles.

RE: Washer/dryer combo

I have no personal experience with the "Haier"....however the reviews I gleaned over on the web are very mixed. I would recommend you look for a "Splendide" or "LG".
There appears to always be a good deal of negative attitude towards ventless combos. I guess I'm one of them exceptions....I have had hands on experience with both Splendide and LG ventless models. The splendide I had was an older model....I believe a 6000 series model, and the lent had to be cleaned from the condensor unit ever so often....like 6 to 12 months. When the condensor was clean and everything else was in good condition, it did a satisfactory job of washing and drying.
A couple of years back the transmission on my Splendide broke and I decided to shop for a new combo. After considerable research, I decided on a "LG combo" which is another "ventless" model. As far as I'm concerned this is the cadillac of the combo units.
We full time and use it all the time....it is a very quiet, smooth running machine....washes and dries exceptionally well.....no wrinkles.
Bottom line....you'll have to decide which unit is best for you. If you plan on using this unit alot...you may want to bite the bullet and purchase a more popular brand. If you are just part timing, try out the "Haier".

RE: Lafayette La.

If you do not require hookups....camping world has a very nice parking lot and allowed parking overnight. If you desire hookups....there is also a campground on the same exit.
ON EDIT....sorry, I was confused between Hammond and Lafayette. Hammond has the camping world. Lafayette however, does have a KOA that was nice.

RE: Monaco/Newmar for full time

Which ever brand you decide on, my advice would be to buy one of their top models. The higher end models tend to have more accessories conducive to full time living. .... ie: Aqua hot system, larger invertors, larger battery bank, solar power, larger holding tanks, etc.

RE: Would you switch drivers while moving?

As is with most things...there is a "correct" and "incorrect" way to do this. Done correctly, there is NO risk to anyone on the road.
If you do not know the correct procedure....do not attempt under any circumstances.
