RE: TVA Nickajack Dam Reservation

Thank you for all of your replies. Not wanting to be anywhere near Bonaroo, we have adjusted our time frame and campgrounds. We will try to hit Shellmound or Marion on the way back from Elkhart.

RE: TVA Nickajack Dam Reservation

Wow, I sure love this Forum. Have never heard of the Bonnaroo Festival. I Googled it--we DO Not want to get involved with that. I will have to adjust my thinking of where to stay.
Thanks!!! By the way, any suggestions would be welcome--around Chattonooga or North Georgia. We are coming up from Florida. Like quiet.

RE: TVA Nickajack Dam Reservation

I believe the campground that I was referring to is called the Shellmound Campground. According to the TN. Visitor's Guide, it is in Jasper, TN.

TVA Nickajack Dam Reservation

Can anyone tell me how far this campground is from I24? We are looking for a stopover for a couple of nights, midweek, on our way to Elkhart.
I understand that it is 1st come, 1st serve. We plan on stopping in the first week of June. Will there be a problem getting a site? Anyone been there and what are the best sites?
I tried RV Park Reviews-nothing. Searched this Forum-nothing. Help!!
Thanks

RE: SW Florida to Elkhart IN

The route that we were trying to avoid is US 31. When we came back from Elkhart a couple of years ago, that part of the drive was a PIA. Stop and go at many lights.
We are trying to find a more direct route---that's why the thought of all Interstate driving is being considered. Yeah, it is longer but might be an easier drive.

SW Florida to Elkhart IN

Was wondering if going Interstate 75 to Toldeo and then West to Elkhart makes any sense.
We did the trip once before and it was OK until we got to RT 31 at Indianapolis then stop and go through Kokomo to Elkhart.
We have checked both Mapquest and Google maps and they both suggest RT. 31. Any other suggestions or comments?? Thanks.

RE: Cape Breton Island Nova Scotia

We stayed at Baddeck Cabot Trail Campground. It is a good jumping off point to experience the Cabot Trail. It has a pool and a restaurant on site.
We went to the Fortress of Louisbourg. Really super. Also, don't miss the Alexander Graham Bell Musuem in Baddeck. The man invented so many things other than the telephone.
Cape Breton is so beautiful! It is on our short list for a return trip.

RE: Evaluating a Manufacturer

AS said before, if you are talking about a Phoenix Cruiser, we can answer many questions. We now own a Phoenix Cruiser 2551 (2011) and last year, traded in our Phoenix Cruiser 2350 (a 2010).
If you would like to PM us, do not hesitate. We bought both Factory Direct and really could not be happier with our choice.
Also, check out the Forum on the Phoenix website.
We live on the West Coast of Florida if you would like to see one in the flesh. We are sailors as well, having sold our Island Packet a few years back (now tool around in a 19' Grady).

RE: Questions on really neat RV parks near FLA West Coast

In the Ft. Myers area, is W.P Franklin Corps of Engineers Park. It is on the Caloosahatchie River. No fancy amenities but very well maintained and the price is right if you have the Golden Age Pass. Reservations are hard to get in season but June should not be a problem.
We will be there this Tues and Wed. and also in Jan for a couple of days.

RE: Niagra Falls camping

We stayed at Four Mile Creek State Park which is on Lake Ontario and maybe 15 minutes from the Falls-its address is Youngstown NY.
If you stay at the State Park and show your permit, parking is free at Niagra Falls State Park. That was well worth it.

RE: Is Key West for Us?

There is also a fast ferry from Ft. Myers (at least there was) and one from Marco Island.
We took that down our first time. It was cool!
There's lots to do--visit the lighthouse, Southernmost point in the US. Take the Conch Train to get a feel for Key West and keep an open mind for everything else.

RE: To Fl

I agree with Dennis. We just came back to FL a month ago.
We take 84 to 81 then 77 to 26 to 95 and down. We find it much easier travelling. And the only toll is the bridge over the Hudson.

Help-Improving E450 Ride

We took delivery of a 2011 Phoenix Cruiser 2551 (no slide) in Feb. During our trip this summer,we thought we would lose our teeth the ride was so hard-especially when hitting a pothole or expansion joint in the road. The rig loaded with fuel and H2O weighs 10,840 lbs-we add about 1000 lbs.
We took it to a Ford dealer. Shocks were fine. We reduced tire pressure to 70lbs all around. Our RV shop here says maybe removing a leaf spring will help.
Could the rig be too light for the E450? I know others have changed out shocks. Any other sugggestions? Love the coach, hate the hard ride.

RE: Ford or Chevy chassis alternative to Sprinter-based RV

We had a 2010 Phoenix Cruiser 2350 Sprinter with the corner bed--it also had the dinette and no slide.
We hated the corner bed. Hard to make up and a pain for the person who sleeps next to the window to get out to go to the head in the middle of the night.
The dinette's bench seating was very uncomfortable, especially when watching tv.
So, we traded the 2350 in for a 2011 Phoenix Cruiser 2551 on the Ford chassis. It has twin beds which we like very much. We also had Phoenix build our PC with two captain's chairs instead of the dinette seating. Much more comfortable! Talk to them, they will build to your specs.
The negative, for us, is the hardness of the ride of the Ford E450. The Sprinter was significantly better.

RE: Owners of Sprinter Chassis C MH ?

Last year we traded in our 2010 Phoenix Cruiser 2350 on the Sprinter chassis for a 2011 Phoenix Cruiser 2551 on the Ford. The reason was we did not like the corner bed or the tv (too high). We like Phoenix Cruiser, the interior accomodations and their customer service. They do not offer a twin bed version on the Sprinter as Coach House does ($$$$$).
We travelled 8000 mi. over 3 monthes last year in the Sprinter. This year 5000 Mi over 2 monthes in the Ford. The ride in the Sprinter is FAR superior to the Ford.
We took it to a Ford dealer to see if the shocks we o.k. Nothing wrong so we are going to have to upgrade the shocks to improve the ride. We just about lost our teeth with every bump-the coach shook. When we ask other rv'ers, they say "that's a Ford"!
As for the ride, the Sprinter is a hands on winner.

RE: PA Road closures-I81 Southbound

Yes, I did. They spoke of the Northbound lanes. We are heading home to Florida and will be heading South. I would hate to have to adjust our route if it were not necessary. Thanks.

PA Road closures-I81 Southbound

Does anyone know if I81 South in PA is closed? I heard that I81 North is closed from MM100 to MM90 in the vicinity of Lickdale.

We are leaving Tuesday for New England. We take the route that Big Katuna advises. A lot less stress, tolls and road construction.

RE: Orlando, FL to Maine in Sept.

We are leaving in a couple of weeks for Maine/NS/PEI. After much deliberation about going right up 95, we decided to go 95/26/77/81/84. We have taken that route before and find it easier than hitting Wash/Balt/NY and up through CT on 95. It is also less expensive--the only toll that you will have is crossing the Hudson until you get to MA/NH and ME.
The plan, for us, is New Green Acres in Walterboro SC, Walnut Hill KOA in Staunton VA, Promised Land State Park in Greentown PA and then on to New England.
This will be our 3rd year heading up. If any ?, PM me.
I took that same route last week from Fort Wilderness back home in MA. We hit 0 traffic and minimal construction. I stayed at New Green Acres as well. I would recommend Candy Hill Campground http://www.candyhill.com/ that was a really nice place to stay. That is really good news! We are leaving on the 26th! Did you head right to MA from Candy Hill? Our 1st stop will be in Mattapoisett MA and we hope to get there on Friday PM.
