RE: Class A Only Resort free stay offers: YES or NO

Why not? If they are where you are traveling, use them. Just remember the "NO" word. I would not go out of my way very far however.

RE: Extended Stay Valve Installation

I would not do it myself unless I was fully qualified. You need different pipe thread seal paste or tape for LP than water piping and the risk is much greater than a small water leak. I had mine done by a reputable RV dealer and the cost was about the same as Camping World (Which I do not trust to do anything!).

RE: Travel in New Zealand

My lovely wife is a Kiwi, we were on the North island for about 3 weeks in Jan 2012. We go there every few years. There are many places to rent a RV from and many places to stay. There are many guides you can get on line and while you are there. Driving is a breeze out side of large cities and as stated, no one is in much of a hurry. Avoid Holiday seasons and the airfare will be more reasonable. US citizens do need a visa at all. For Austrailia you do need one, although you just do it on line before leaving. We borrow or rent phone when there and buy a internet USB stick. 2 gb for about 70 USD. More than enough for 5-6 weeks, longer if really careful. Almost all computer power supplies are dual voltage, so I'm not sure anyone would need a voltage adapter. You will need a plug adapter. If you bring a phone and the PS isn't dual voltage, just use a car charger. Problem solved. Using a US phone there is very expensive 2-3$ a minute. We enable international texting and keep in touch that way. 5$ for 50 messages with ATT. Good thing you already know it is expensive, that is a understatement. It is quite a shock at the gas pump, grocery store etc. Worse at resturants etc. I don't know how the locals cope.. All that said, it is a beautiful place, should been seen by everyone.

RE: New Allegro Breeze deal does not seem that great....

I don't think one person that posted here is a Breeze owner. They are a in-demand model and you likely will never get the sort of reduction in MSRP that is seen on a larger coach. As for waiting until the camping season is over, then you just lost the use and enjoyment of the product for a whole season. If I was happy with what deal I had worked out, I would go for it. Someone will always say you paid to much or that they paid less, or you should have one this or that. If you want some good advice, go to the tiffinrvnetwork.com and see if any actual owners will share their discount. Not sure they will, but at least you'll have some discussion with actual owners. You'll also have a source of information on the Breeze. Good Luck...enjoy!

RE: My Unreliable Tiffin

The current CCC has no real relation to the previous company other than the name. They bought the intellectual rights to the bankrupt company's designs and such. I do not believe they have ever produced a new coach yet. If I am wrong, show me one. They are servicing the old product, but many places will do that. But they have no legal obligation to do so any more that Navistar does for old Monaco's or whoever owns Fleetwood for old Fleetwood products. How is going to Oregon for service different than going to Red Bay for service? We have friends with Winnebago products that are far worse than anything Tiffin has done and Winnie has a very good QC dept. At least in comparison to Tiffin. I'll bet that Jayco has no responsibility for the old TS product either. Prove me wrong... We looked at both of those brands in 2008, we had reasons not to buy either. TS had already gone under, why would we look at them? Plus we owned a Jayco product, it was cheap and poorly put together. CCC was a long trip to a dealer and there was already rumors of doom. The comment about having to go to Red Bay for service is questionable, we have two dealers within 175 miles that are capable of doing anything needed and doing it right. People like to go there in many cases. Not us, we have been there and had techs that were completely incompetent. I would never defend the Red Bay service center. We have had upgrade work done there that was without fault however.
Ya pay your money and spin the wheel...

RE: My Unreliable Tiffin

Want a great RV....then go out and buy either a used Travel Supreme or a used Country Coach.! period
And then call the company when you have a problem..You will have a problem sometime sooner or later. Oh, wait, you can't call, they are out of business.
Tiffin isn't perfect and Bob is the king of blue sky, but they are still in business. Would I buy another? Not sure, but I would consider Tiffin at the top of my short list. We have never been stranded anywhere, had a slide (or awning) not open or close, and no roof or paint or structural issues.

RE: Why?

I suspect someone was being negative to either Wal-Mart or FJ and I think I know who. Which had nothing to do with the subject of the thread. So why not just delete them?
Oh well, doesn't really matter, the point was made. Every once in a while something comes up that makes me rethink why I bother with this forum.

Scam alert at Flying J

Today while filling up at the RV island at the FJ south of Montomery, I was approached by a guy that represented himself as a FJ employee. He offered me a deal on fuel, but wasn't very specific. I sort of assumed he was talking about the new card with Good Sam. After some more discussion and him trying to get me away from the RV island, it turned out he was part of a group trying to scam money off customers with a truck drivers version of a shell game with a few twists. Made the hair on my neck stand up and I got the h-e-double l out of there. To make a long story short, I reported the incident to the manager and basically got a shrug of the shoulder. I just may find a new source of fuel. I really dislike being made to feel uncomfortable and almost in fear for my life while spending my hard earned money.
Be very careful out there.

RE: 8.1 Workhorse - what brands came with NON-rubber roofs?

All Tiffins have a fiberglass roof. Not sure what year that started however. Maybe 2004 or 03??
You sure about that, I thought Tiffin was more partial to aluminum?
Either is ok with me, have aluminum now.
Yes, I am sure. Check their web site.

RE: Another Phaeton Question

Actually, I am a Engineer. More years than I care to mention in Quality systems. That why I asked for "facts". Which I still have not seen. We have a 2008 that was built mid to late of the model year. It has no issue related to this problem. It also has a lot of black paint on the radius. Of course it is a FRED not a DP, but the construction is exactly the same. And it is just shy of 40' long regardless of what the model number indicates.
The sort of thing I'd like to see is a breakdown by chassis, Tiffin model, etc. There may well be some coorelation to "box construction" as noted by the poster above. My main concern is that we would like to move up to a gently used 2011 or there abouts, but are very wary about these issues. I like to keep on top of the issues because of that. I'm also considering the fact that I can drive to Forest City, IA in less than 3 hours instead of two days to Red Bay.

RE: Another Phaeton Question

All newer tiffins will most likely have roof radius cracking issues.
What facts do you have to base that wide ranging statement on?

RE: Another Phaeton Question

My opinon: Don't try to compare a 2006 with a 2011, there are many differences. You didn't mention if it had a residential fridge, what chassis it was on and what options it had. The roof issue has not effected all units and some people have had it repaired at locations away from Red Bay. Remember, a 2011 could only be a few months old. Or 14 months old. That's easy to verify. Tires should not be a issue.
It's easy to get off track.

RE: Why are some basement storage on slides

Typically, but maybe not always is that coaches with compartments that move with the slides are front engined models without raised rail chassis. As previously noted, they will not accomodate pass through storage because of the drive shaft and exhaust.

RE: New Tiffin Breeze 32BR

If you look at TRVN, you will also find that a few Breeze owners are unloading them and moving to larger coaches like the RED. Check it out and find out why. Ask questions.

RE: Front engine diesel Tiffins

We have a 2008 Bay FRED 38TGB, the biggest model Tiffin ever made in a front engined model in recent years. Our MPG is right where others have mentioned, averaging about 10.2 over 15,000 miles towing a 4 dr Jeep. Cost of maintence is not high at all even if you have it done. Ours for the third year was about 350 including the gen work at a Cummins Coach Care shop. If you are not aware, there are two different FRED chassis. They differ in engine, 5.9 vs 6.7 and transmission and other differences. Ours is very quiet unless on long steep grades, even then not a issue. Tiffin used the larger of the two chassis on Allegro Bays.
Good luck.

RE: Diesel Mileage Sinks

FREDS do not have a dash computer MPG display. You have to do the figures manually.
My comments about the econ mode are based on more or less flat country driving (midwest and SE). I think it causes the engine to lug at times when it should have downshifted.
