RE: Grease for Hydraulic Levelers

Power Gear recommends wiping the cylinders down with ATF... You may want to check and see if they have a grease fitting ...mine has one per cylinder. Yeah, my manual also said this should be done once a week if the leveler are out for an extended time.

RE: air filter for 8.1 question??

The filter is the regular air filter that all the chevy trucks with the 8.1l engine use. Any Chevy or auto parts dealers will have them. The foam is an integraded part of this filter. Here is the list filters you can get. Any Auto Parts Store should be able to cross reference the AC Delco number. W8800481...........Air Filter-With Foam Cover...............Workhorse A1236C.............Air Filter-With Foam Cover...............AC Delco A917C..............Air Filter-No Foam Cover.................Champ Also check out this link for all your part reference needs. I carry a copy of this in my coach. came very usefull a few times already: http://oemys-performance.com/whparts.htm

RE: What is the longest your rig has sat unused?

Used it last during the Easter week. Very sad. I miss it but work has to come first.

RE: Help finding a service center for GM 8.1L oil change

Any quick lube wit a large enough door can help you, I do mine myself. And should not cost any more than a normal gas truck. If you have your workhorse owner manual with you, you should give them page 152 to review. This page will show all the lube points on the chassis. While they are under the coach have them take care of the lubrications too. Just to let you know there are 3 different filter that will fit the 8.1. You can get a 1/2 quart, 1 quart and 2 quart filter. I currently have the 1 quart filter and I am still checking the benefits of going 2 quart.

RE: Chinese Swagman?

Interesting, the entry door is on the driver side and appears rather small. Wonder if that's the European version. look at the picture a bit closer and you can see that it is not on the drivers side this thing translates to $322,000 holy, moly preowned Well, unless my old eyes are deceiving me, which they could, but when I went to this link:http://www.swagman.com.au/ and clicked on the picture of the blue & white coach, and a larger view came up it sure looked as if the entry door with steps was on the driver side to me, oh well, really not all that important. The web page is Autralian, and shows Australian models. In Australia vehicles driver sits on the right and drives on the left. I am sure when/if they introduce the MH in North America that the floorplan will flip around. I like the look of them. The interior looks more modern than most North American MH's

RE: Couple missing - UPDATE MH Found burned near Edson - couple still missing

Now as far as enhanced cell service, of course we have that in Canada! The stretch of road and location in question are out of normal cell coverage range. Telus has way better coverage in the mountains than Rogers does. So depending where you are, you may or may not have cell coverage when you get away from the inhabited areas.... The locations of the burnt RV, the SUV, and suspect are not in remote mountains. This out on the flat plains west of Edmonton, about half way to Jasper. From the Google satellite image the area appears to be half forest and half agriculture (esp close to the highway). Cell coverage should be good. It sounds as though many in the area have worked in the 'oil patch', including the suspect. I travel around a lot anywhere in Northern Alberta. (around 100,000 KM per year) I can tell you that cell coverage is spoty along most highways. No Matter if I got to Edson, Hinton, Grande Prairie, Ft. McMurray etc. As soon as you get out of towns you loos cell coverage at very little dip in the ground. Very frustrating if your vehicle is alo your office like it is for me.

RE: Couple missing - UPDATE MH Found burned near Edson - couple still missing

This is such a sad occurrence. It makes me more cynical, and naturally makes me wonder what can be done in order to improve our personal safety. First we need to find out what exactly happened. Where is the couple? How did there get there? How did the RV end up the way it did, how did the car end up where it was? At this time everything is speculation.

RE: Which would you buy

If you like the CC go for it. I wouldn't be concerned over a good quality orphan, but then again I purchased my Travel Supreme last year (another orphan coach). Lou 05 Travel Supreme 38DS04 Why would you think a Country Coach is an orphan? Country Coach is still in business and only sells factory direct. They offer tech support and parts are available though a third party vendor. CC may not make the model you're looking at, but that's so with most of the builders. Not sure where you got your info from but CC is gone. A Judge ordered CC into chapter 11 last year in November 2009. See this link http://special.registerguard.com/csp/cms/sites/web/news/cityregion/23693918-41/story.csp I think Howard still owns the name Country Coach and he has opend an new service facility where he and former CC employees perform paid service an CC's

RE: Work Horse Chassis...real world experiance Question.

Workhorse is losing business so fast now, that Winnebago is not using any Workhorse chassis (including the front diesel) on any of their 2011 lineup. Workhorse is loosing for more reasons. Workhorse is out of gas engines. And front diesel are not that popular with RV'rs. The Ford Chassis is the ONLY gas chassis currently available. BTW, I am happy with my WH. Never had a brake issue at all. I never had any problems with my coach other than little waer and tear stuff.

RE: Couple missing - UPDATE MH Found burned near Edson - couple still missing

"including a report that their missing Hyundai Tucson may have been spotted in Prince George, B.C., within the past four days." Read more: Link to story At least that offers some hope! that doesn't mean *they* are driving it. :( Based on comments from their kids this would be totally out of character. There is zero reason to drive to PG if you're going to Vancouver area. PG is a long way the wrong way, so I have to doubt they are driving. Besides, a week later and they are all over the news and they haven't reported in? does not bode well IMHO. Also 2 weeks since they are missing and they have not used the bank or credit card. Unlikely!! Even if you use cash they will need a CC for a hotel or so!

RE: Synthetic oil vs non synthetic oil

I have posted this a few times before. This is based on FACTS not my personal believes. You can find the information below online for yourself: I have to say that many of you really need to do some research on Synthetic Oil and what true synthetic oil actually is. There is no regulation in place that will differentiate a dino oil from a synthetic oil. In North America manufacturers can call it whatever they want. Check out API group I, II, III, IV, V You regular dino oil is a group II. Group III were developed by Chevron, Shell, and other petrochemical companies. They developed processes involving catalytic conversion of feed stocks under pressure in the presence of hydrogen into high quality mineral lubricating oil. Group III base stocks are considered synthetic motor oil ONLY in the United States. Group III based lubricants are not allowed to be marketed as "synthetic" in any market outside of the USA. 97% of synthetic oils marketed in the US are Group III oils. Group IV oils use Polyalphaolefin (PAO) as base stock and group V oils are made off synthetic esters, etc as base oils (non-PAO synthetics, including diesters, polyesters, alklylated napthlenes, alkyklated benzenes, etc.) Group IV and group V oils are true synthetic oils. AMSOIL, Royal Purple and RED LINE are the only 100% Synthetic on the market (there maybe an other one that I don't remember). In the past Mobile 1 was a group IV. Unfortunately not all Mobile 1 are group IV anymore. Mobile 1 went to the dark side and is now using a Group III for some grades. And there is a Funny oil on the market too. Castrol Syntec 0W30. If the the bottle says MADE IN GERMANY, it is a true group IV oil. If the bottle is made in the US it is a Group III oil. If you look for them at the store, they are mixed up. You will find the German and the US oil in the same box. I am sorry to say that many that claim they run a synthetic oil and how much better it is, well sorry many of you are not running a synthetic oil at all and the reason that you get all the benefit you claim may just be a placebo effect. Mobile 1 does claim a 2% increase in MPG! 2% are they kidding. On A MoHo that runs 7MPG I get an improvement of 246 yards? Well that is definitely a bonus if the Oil cost double from my Dino Stuff. There is a lot of reason to believe that Synthetic oils is supirior to Dino oil, what how do I benefit from the extra cost. Mobile and Castrol have successfully spend million and millions of dollar in marketing to make us believe that we need to run Synthetic oils and many consumers go for it. If it is more expensive it must be good. Right? Yes there are cars (mostly performance cars) that come with synthetic oil and those cars need the this oil. The specs for modern performance engine are a lot tighter than the engine of you every day driver, or Motorhome engine. A dino oil thins out when it gets hot during normal operation. a 40wt oil can easily turn into a 30wt or thinner oil when hot. This can cause problems on a performance engine. The cold oil may not be thin enough to lubricate this engine due to the tight specs. Since Mobile 1 does not change, a 20wt Mobile 1 oil will remain a 20wt oil even when hot. Ensuring that this performance engine will have prober lubrication even when cold. Here is a little fun fact: Did you know that you cannot start a cold Formula 1 engine? The specs for this performance engine are so tight that a cold Formula 1 engine is actually seized up. In order to start the engine, hot coolant and oil is cycled into to the engine. Once the engine is warm end parts are expending the engine will turn over. I am not completely against Mobile 1. In fact I use Mobile 1 during the Winter. We go down well below 0. I was able to start the MoHo on December 2009, at -37degree. I use Mobile 1 in my wifes car because she has no way of plugging in the engine block heater at work. Mobile 1 will not thicken and that is the reason I use it during the winter month. So I believe that there are benefits to Synthetic oil, however you have to see if YOU get any benefit using synthetic. If you spend the money for synthetic and then add $25 for testing etc, why not stick with dino oil and simply change it at 3000miles and safe the money for synthetic and testing. Testing the oil tells you how dirty the oil is. Changing my Dino oil at 3000 miles gets the dirt out regardless. You can do A dino oil change for what you would pay for the testing.

RE: Tornadoes & RV's

Today is the 10th anniversary of Pine Lake (alberta Canada) Tornado that killed 12 RV'rs. This tornado hit the RV park without any warnings. 12 dead and 100's insured. Google for it. Lot's in the local news about it today.

RE: Couple missing - UPDATE MH Found burned near Edson - couple still missing

Any updates? NO!!! Just looked at the news. RCMP got nothing. The search is still on for the Hyundai. Son of the couple has been on the news. He is telling that since his parents filled up at the Gas Station in St.Albert there has been no activities on the Credit Card or Bank Account. RCMP will release the video surveillance from the gas station tomorrow.

RE: Which caulk to use?

You say that the part you like to recaulk is on the side. Dicor is good when used on the roof top however since dicor is self leveling, it will run donw the side of the coach. I would prefer some ethernabond seal tape (sp?), it will last longer and can be applied right over the old stuff.

RE: Warning about buying a Workhorse chassis unit

On this forum, the people that complain about the WH brake problems the most, and seem to consider themselves an expert, are non-owners of the affected chassis. Those that do own them, like me, and have not had any problems at all after 40,000+ miles, have nothing to complain about. We just use the coach and enjoy it. Me too, absolutely no probelm, 2002 HR with 20,000 miles.

RE: Big guy on the roof - how do you do it?

I'd like to get on the roof our our Winnebago SightSeer to clean out the airconditioner and to check for a leak around the forward vent. However, I'm worried about the roof's ability to support me (I'm about 360 lbs) while up there. Any one else ever tried that? Should I lay down a sheet or plywood to crawl on first? I have a ladder that would get me up to the rooftop (I'd not use the ladder on the back of the motorhome). Am I being overly cautious?? What kind of roof do you have? I am in your weight class. I have been on my roof for maintanance many times. I don't have goom for a sheet of plywood because of all the stuff up there. I installed solar up there all by myself with no problems ever. I got a aluminum roof. If it is fiberglass I would be concerned about cracking and use something for weight distribution. I have been walking and after waxing and polishing crawling (got a bit scare because it got slippery) with no worries. I had a rubber roof on my previous camper was up there regularely too with no prtoblem.

RE: Gasser Class A is a dog on mountain passes

So you are moving 25000 pounds up a mountain and slow down to 25mph. Fail to see where this is an eye opening experience. I would have been more shocked if you would not slow down, no matter if it is a gasser or DP. Sit back relax and don't worry about the time you make unless you run the MH in a race of some sort.
