RE: Toyhaulers by Jayco?

I looked in the TH section at the Jayco Owners Forum and I don't see the issues being reported like you souce below. Since this is the Toy Hauler section of the forum, I am sure the OP is looking for advise and not speculation.
I have friends who have the 2011 - 2012 Octane models and the build quality is identical to my 2010.
If there is some real data on their Toy Hauler line suffering quality issues, can you please post specific locations to this information?
For the scoffers who don't believe "Lady," compare the quality of a 2012 to a 2011. Same for 2013. Also, do a little research on other forums (try here for starters) for complaints about later model Jaycos not having sawdust, screws, staples, etc. cleaned off roofs before gluing down the EPDM and Jayco refusing to do anything about it. Same for bubbles in the roofing. Or the problems with roof sealing tape on slides failing. I was planning to order a 2011 330RLTS but ran into some health issues that delayed the purchase until the 2012s came out and couldn't believe the drop in quality due to Jayco flat cheaping out. 2013 is even worse.
You have to been following the decline over the past two model years from the previous ones by actually comparing them. Looking at one recent year or basing your observations on earlier models isn't going to tell you squat about Jayco's recent decline. If you want to throw your money at a pig in a poke, go for it. I prefer to do my research rather than throw my money away.

RE: Toyhaulers by Jayco?

I don't think the poster shed any specifics in their post about Jayco having problems. I own a 2010 T26Y and it rocks! It has been in some really gnarly places and it keeps on ticking!
Wow, scary to hear Jayco having problems. Anyone have a good alternate brand that shows a more promising future? Thanks!

RE: New (used) toy hauler - using ramp as platform for patio

The Ramp Room was a great investment and we use it almost every time we go out for more than 3 days. At night it becomes a garage for the toys, since the ramp closes up. If we have more than 10 guests, we throw a blowup bed in the outback room and viola, more accomodations.
Check out my install thread here!
The ShadePro kit comes with everything you need to make a ramp room.

RE: Need to upgrade batteries/charging system- suggestions?

I too am curious about the 12v golf car battery. I have looked at the Trojan T-1275 but it clocks in at 80lbs ea. and not sure if I have the room up front to replace both my current 12v standard batteries.
I have been kicking around the idea of adding more 12v capacity as well. Currently, I am using 2 Interstate RV batteries. They test fine. I have looked at the 6v golf cart batteries more than once. Yesterday, while wandering around at Sam's Club, I noticed a 12v golf cart battery I had not noticed before. Larger in physical size than the 12 volt batteries I am using but not as large as 2 6 volts in series. Anyone have any experience with these battery types? I intend to keep the 2 existing batteries in the system.
We do not dry camp for extended times and carry 2 Honda 2000 generators for battery charging and A/C. I would like to add a quality inverter as well. Not looking for the ultimate setup...just want to watch TV without digging out the generators.

RE: TH Rear Ramp Patio

We have the screen enclosed kind. The nice part is that you can roll down the "curtains" so people can't see in. Once we set it up, we can still open and close the ramp door with no problem. Depending on where we stay, we'll leave it open with the dogs inside and the back ramp screen locked down with the ramp down. Did that make sense. Bottom-line, the version we have can remain up no matter your ramp preferences.
PS. It turns into a nice garage with the ramp up!

RE: Latest recommendations for charger/inverters and solar?

Yes, I use the Xantrex in conjunction with 2 12v batteries and a 200W solar panel setup with a Morningstar controller.
Since we are in the Southwest, this setup is optimal year round.
Has anyone used a Xantrex charger inverter? I hear they are the cat's meow and will accommodate all RV needs.

RE: Need TV and more power without running house generator

Solar is the ticket. The install is the only initial hassle but after that, you never have to think about it. Year-round here in most Southwest destinations, the batteries maintain very healthy level with solar. Get an energy efficient tv and yes, go LED for your lighting, it does make a huge difference!
To give you an idea of what my 2 12v batteris do for us in a given day;
Radio - On almost all day long, even if we ride, the dogs like it.
TV - In the evening for a couple of hours and this includes running the Directv receiver too.
Waterpump - flushing, rinsing etc.
Cell phone charging, etc.
Right before bed my voltage panel usually reads 12.2-12.3 volts. In the morning, I fire the genny up to run the coffee maker and let it run for about an hour.

RE: GPS

True but some are easier than others plus some have limits on the number of tracks recorded and the length of time they are saved.
Actually, any GPS that stores tracks, waypoints, etc. and has the ability to output GPX, etc. formats can be imported in to Google Earth.
I watched Brooks trying to use his eTrex and it was mind numbing all of the steps he had to go through for simple stuff. For riding, any screen smaller than 4" is just not practical.
You can do this with all the Garmins.

RE: GPS

What I like about the setup I have too is that once I get back from a trip, I can download the tracks right in to Google Earth. In Google Earth, I can create a fly-over of the tracks (rides) we took to get an idea of what we missed, elevation, etc.
Here is a short ride we did to a mine on January 28. CLICK TO WATCH VIDEO
Another cool thing is that I can reverse the process. I can create tracks in Google Earth and import them directly to the Garmin. I get not only the actual route but also 3D satellite images so I can compare things should something not add up or I want to deviate from the route.
Keep it simple when selecting a GPS unit and make sure it fits the intended purpose as close as possible. :C

RE: GPS

I started with a Lowrance Baja 540 that I mounted in the Rhino. I quickly realized that this was not going to work. I sold the Baja and got a handheld and while it was convienent to carry, the screen was just too small and the controls generally suck. Thankfully Amazon allowed me to return the handheld.
One day shopping at Costco, I came across a Garmin Nuvi 1490t and I was sold. For $149, I got a 4.3" screen with 24k topo maps. I purchased a Ram Mount for the Rhino and my quad.
So what did I get for $150 bucks?
A car navigation system for the truck that does not have a factory navigation systemA UTV navigation systemEven works great for hiking!
The Ram Case I purchased is water proof so that solves the only issue some may have with getting such a unit.
If you need something to track your running, etc. Get an iPhone with the Nike+ app and that solves 3 problems; having a phone, having your tunes, and tracking your excersize.

RE: Where to camp and ride in Arizona in March

Where in AZ? Your best best will be the middle/lower desert areas for comfort as it can still be chilly up north and east. If you can narrow it down, I can PM you some great stuff!
