RE: F-250 Truck with 5.4L gas engine

Depends on what you want to do with it. I have owned two F-250 SuperDuty's with the 5.4L and towed with them. If it is a pre-2005 it has the 2v 5.4L which made 265 HP and 350 ft lbs torque and will be good up to about 7500 lbs and be a very stable towing platform. The 2 valve is a very durable engine that can be pushed quit hard. 3 valve have more peak HP, but I think (not sure) it also have the dreaded spark plug problem. So it is which problem you wish to have --- I have had good luck with the 5.4 2 valve towing up to 7,000lbs on a E platform. Any spark plug issues with the 5.4L were rare and limited to earlier years. The 3v version never had the blown plug issue. The 3v version had more HP and Torque than the 2v version. The beauty of the 5.4L in spite of it's small size was it delivered 90% of it's torque below 2500 RPM's. I have owned and towed with both versions in the F-250 platform. I never did a single repair to either. The 2v version I towed a 26' TT weighing 7500 quite handily. The 3v version I towed a 9k TT without any issues. It is amazing to me how the "spark plug" thing is so blown out of proportion. The blown plug issue was more prevalent in early 6.8L motors (still rare) but limited to a couple of years. The two 5.4L trucks I owned were bulletproof and served me well.

RE: A/C Filter

You can buy that stuff at any hardware store, home improvement store and Wal-Mart. The stuff is very cheap to keep some around. Take the old one and use it to measure and cut a new one. Just curious, you do clean it, right? Your A/C's performance and life depend on keeping that thing clean. I change mine frequently.

RE: F-150 EB - Tow, or Max Tow Package?

I would opt for max tow and payload packages

RE: Good news / Bad news....Found a leak

Thats a good catch because it would have been a big problem later. I would start with an examination of that entire area looking for any entry point for the water. If it is small then some Dicor lap sealant may do the trick. After everything dries good you get to put it back together. Oh what fun it is being an RV owner.

RE: Backing-Up with Reese Weight Distribution Hitch

Not a problem to back up with it. It is possible to turn so sharp to cause the cam arms to contact the frame which could damage them. It would have to be a severe angle to cause this.

RE: Motorhome Delivery problems

" I flew to Vegas and to avoid paying Cal tax arranged to have the dealer deliver the Coach to Vegas " I don't think I would make this type of purchase under those circumstances. I will leave it at that!

RE: How does CW recruit, train, audit managers, technicians?

Is there a group that certifies technicians for RV work? If not there should be. At least if you go to an auto repair facility and see they have ASE certified techs you have some confidence in their ability to do repairs right. Not always true but it does help.

RE: Ford F-150 eco-boost MPG

LOL, this is actually humorous, sad but funny none the less. Trashing other brands without facts does not make your brand better.Just makes you look small and bitter. Don't worry the pack will catch up in a while.

RE: Is the trailer I want too heavy and long?

There is no spec that I am aware of for length. I think it does matter but is more a proper hitch selection issue. The Expedition is not known for it's towing prowess because of the suspension either and that will play into your decision. My concern is not trailer weight with the Expedition but with payload as it is with all 1/2 ton based trucks/SUV's. I think you will run into problems with it on those trailers. I would estimate the loaded tongue weight at GVWR on the trailers at 12% and check it against your payload considering passengers and gear you will have in the Expy. Of course there is no substitute for real world numbers but kind of hard to do for tongue weight when shopping for a trailer. Good luck and I applaud you for trying to do it right.

RE: Upgrade Tundra to F150 HD?

The payload is a concern on the Tundra and most other 1/2 ton trucks. As noted the Max payload package on an F-150 would get you considerable more payload capacity. That said, I still think you are OK on the Tundra. You are maxing out payload on it but the low GVWR of the trailer keeps it managable. The 3.5L EB does deliver max torque much lower than the Tundra but it is no different than most smallblock V-8's on that. If it has performed satisfactory so far I would stick with it just watch your payload numbers. BTW, never base your decisions on whats safe by what others do and "say". Always do the research and go by the numbers. To many people blindly pull huge trailers way over maximum ratings of one kind or another blindly on what someone told them. Ignorance may be bliss but it does not make it safe or smart.

RE: Hunting

I think you must consider that Marcus may be making decisions not based on personal convictions but rather to protect his business from the crazies that exist in our world. No CEO wants negative publicity for his company and there are a lot of "Eco-nut cases" out there and he knows that hunters are reasonable, rational people who make decisions based on whats best for them not in some crazy attempt to establish "animal rights" in the court of public opinion. RE: Tow Vehicle Question

Your Tundra and a 4800 lb. dry 25 footer should be a good combination. What you are feeling is "porpoising." This is not uncommon on concrete roads with regularly spaced seams. You might try putting one more chain link under tension on your weight distribution bars. Also, was the trailer empty when you experienced this? More tongue weight might also help...which will happen when you load up your gear, food, sutff, etc. for a trip. x2

RE: Ford F-150 eco-boost MPG

based on the love from the people who actually own one. Well we had note the word had three vendors that deliver to my plant that have owned them. Only one still has his the other two couldn't what the dump them. Fords MPG rating was high and drops like a rock as soon as you put any weight to it. They sold people on them with their deceptive advertising. Running a truck at WOT around a track does not prove a thing. If they wanted to really test it they should have done a 24 hour stop and go test. The only thing that test proved was it can run at WOT. Hell my Cummins can do that and get better mileage doing it loaded or empty. I hope all you Beta Testers didn't get taken for a $42,000+ ride for a half ton truck OMG. For that money (less really) you guys could have had a V-8 :S Don Thats all you got? You misunderstood me, I wanted some C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E info? Mind you I do not have a dog in this hunt but I am sick of the misinformation campaign on this forum by a few malcontents.

RE: Ford F-150 eco-boost MPG

Ecoboost is an early application of "flight control laws" type technology --- which in primitive forms, have been around forever (or electronically since the mid late 80s). In essence, the engine is monitored and if the software thinks it is being operated beyond a "safe" point, it dials back the power available until the situation changes. The claimed HP/Torque is not continuous, but only for the brief time needed to pass the SAE specified tests. It is going to be real interesting how many updates they do to the software as they figure out what is wrong with their models. Well so far nothing is wrong with it based on the love from the people who actually own one. Plus they are selling like hotcakes so there are a lot more on the street everyday. Those who have done extensive towing with it like Skip on this forum have seen very good results. If you have a link to your magical conclusions please do post it. One of the great features of the EB is it delivers all of it's torque at just 1800 RPM. If that is false give us some info from credible sources to back it up.

RE: Photo Bucket issues

I have used PB several times for posting over the last couple of days with no issues. The problem may be RV.net. I have been using Woodalls and TL to get on.
