Picking up new fifth wheel

We get to pick up our new fifth wheel this week. We are trading in our 2005 Rockwood 8280SS Ultralite and getting a Wildcat 282RKS. Both have similar floor plans but the new one has larger fresh water and waste tanks, something we have been wanting so we can extend our boondocking trips without having to tear down to go dump tanks and return and set up all over again. We're excited about the new one but are sad to see the old one go as it has served us well without a single problem over the past 7 seasons.

RE: Blowing out the lines

whats the best way to sanitize?
This is a good way to Sanitize your Fresh Water System.
Sounds like what I said.

RE: sliding hitch questions

How hard is it to move the hitch back to the tow position? I wouldn't tow that way because it only takes a minute to move mine back to the tow position and put the locking pin in.

RE: Blowing out the lines

I blow my lines out every fall. In the spring, I fill the water tank and add 1/4 cup of bleach per 15 gallons of water. I then pump that through the system, including the water heater. Let that sit for a few hours while I do other stuff and then drain down the fresh water tank and water heater. Fill with fresh water and start pumping that through the lines until I can smell no more chlorine. Top off the tanks and I'm good to go. We don't usually drink the water from tanks either.

RE: Day/Night Driving

We usually make an early start and drive during the day. The first trip this year was an emergency trip and we drove through Denver in the middle of the night. I am not real fond of driving through there but there was practically no one on the roads at that time.

RE: Yamaha EF2400iSHC Generator

Mine will start and run my AC, as long as the batteries are not charging at a high rate. I am not sure the brand of AC on my rv.

RE: heater help

The fan switch on my fifth wheel runs the air conditioner fan not the furnace fan. I would suspect a possible problem with the control board or maybe the high limit. I know that in some residential units the high limit forces the fan to run all the time until the heat exchanger cools off.

RE: Switched to LED's

The whole LED thing assumes you will use enough time with lights on to make it worth while. In summer, daylight is so long that lights are hardly required at all. In winter, you need lights all the time. (at least around 49N)
So IMO, LEDs are only worth it if you camp in the winter.
We camp mostly in the summer, but due to chronic pain issues I am up when it is dark quite often, so ours get used a lot. They were worth it for me because we boondock a lot and it helps with not having to run the generator a lot.
If they are not worth anything to you, don't buy any.

RE: Who is still camping?

We still plan to take the 3000 mile round trip to Wisconsin. We try to do this one every other year to see family.
It would cost just about the same to fly and then we would have to rent a car, hotel room and eat out three times a day.

Slide out motor

My fifth wheel has the electric slide motor. It used to extend fully and then make a ratcheting sound when it reached full extension. On our last trip, the motor no longer makes the ratcheting sound and tries to pull off the moulding inside. I have been real careful not to extend it too far, but am looking for opinions as to the reason it now operates this way. I will probably just replace the motor and make sure the inside trim is fastened firmly.
Thanks for any help.

RE: Reservations or no reservations?

We always have reservations at our final destination but while traveling, we wait until noon or so and decide how far we are going to drive that day and start calling ahead to reserve.

RE: TST 507 Tire Pressure Monitoring System

I have had my TST system for about the same time and got the free two year warranty. The end of last year the monitor would not hold a charge, I sent it back and they sent me a new one within a week instead of repairing the old. This year I did replace the batteries in the wheel sensors as it showed one battery was low. Other than that, no problems and I love the system.

RE: home security?

I too have a monitored security system and have installed a video recorder and 4 cameras. I replaced the hard drive int he security camera system with a larger one and now can record a fairly high picture quality and retain the video for about a month before it starts to overwrite.

RE: portable hard drive

I have a Seagate Freeagent desk that died after about 2 years of using it as a backup drive on my Apple. After searching I found that there seemed to be issues with this particular model. I am still trying to recover my backups and photos.

RE: Costco RV refinance

Looks like a scam to get more Costco members. You join hoping to refinance and then you are turned down but they have you as a Costco member for a year. Your thoughts?
I save enough on Heineken and Jack Daniels to pay for my membership, not to mention the cash back every year.
Just my opinion.
