RE: X - Plan

I work for a supplier to various automobile manufacturers. My wife wanted to look at a new Ford Focus, using the x-plan we only received about $500 off MSRP. We ended up getting a different make but I've found from buying two Chevy truck that I only had to mention the GM supplier discount and both dealers gave me the discount without any proof I work for a GM supplier. Good Luck, Philip

RE: Gorman / Hungry Valley

I'd only go to Hungry Valley during the week and not on the weekend. Weekends are usually full of idiots riding through your camp or blasting their stereo's until 1:00 am in the morning. Thought I learned my lesson a few years ago but decided to take my little one for a dad/daughter weekend a few weeks back and was sorely disappointed. Worst part was I wasn't packing anything in case some meth'd out freak tried to take my toys :(. Philip

RE: Newbie here. with Carson Funner 26'

I have a 2005 21ft Fun Runner, yes they are entry level in my book. But with all the abuse my trailer has been through I'm happy with it. Just did a 2000 mile round trip to Yellowstone and back. Only issue was a broken rear axle spring in northern utah, a little duct tape and we're down the road again (just kidding about the duct tape). My one piece of advice is make sure you grease the suspension on a regular basis, don't ask me how I know (see above paragraph). Philip

Broken Down - North of Ogden Need Help ASAP

Rear right spring on my TH broke twenty five miles north of Odgen, UT. Limped it back to a KOA in Parry. We're on our way to Yellowstone for two weeks. Need to find a rv dealer on Tuesday to buy a new spring set for a Dexter 3500lb axle. Spring is easy enough to change if I can get a new one. PM me or post. Thanks, Philip

RE: Mammoth Lakes Area - Staging

You mentioned Marysvale for riding in Utah. Another area to stay at is near the Seviers reservoir near Bryce canyon. The campground is called Kings Creek, great campground. They have a dump station, bathrooms and paved spots. We stayed their two years ago and loved it. We went over the fourth of July but luckily the campground is at 7500ft I think so it wasn't hot at all. And you have miles of ATV trails to ride. The campground is not a reserveable so be warned, it seems be very popular with the locals. Look up Dixie National forest for more info. Philip

RE: Mammoth Lakes Area - Staging

I'd shoot for Hartley myself just up the road from GC about one mile. Take the Obsidian dome rd (left from 395N) and travel a quarter of mile, turn right and follow the road up into the campground. The sites at Hartley are pretty big and spaced out so you shouldn't have trouble with trees. If Hartley and GC are full (which I don't think will be the case) You can stay on Obsidian Dome rd and follow it back to the group camping area for one night and then the next day find a suitable campsite. If this is your first trip to the area stop by the forest service's visitor center in Mammoth and get OHV maps of the area and then start exploring. As for dispersed camping you can camp anywhere in the forest as long as it's already a established camp site but you cannot have a camp fire without a permit. The forest service's website has all that info. Philip

RE: Mammoth Lakes Area - Staging

Never stayed at Browns but I've stayed at Glass Creek and Hartley Springs c.g. If your plated you could stay at Mammoth RV park in town for the convenience factor. You can stay in the forest if you want to dry camp it. Mammoth is a primo area to ride and camp so please stay on the trails and pack it out. Philip

RE: personnal accident

I had the same issue in December. Slid off the road in Denver and damaged the bumper on my truck. When I got back a letter arrived in the mail from Mercury with a form to send to the DMV stating I had an accident. They also sent a statement that they might raise my rates because the accident (in their view) was my fault. Police and Fire were not involved, single vehicle slide off the interstate due to ice. I threw both straight in the trash. Learned my lesson, if you can fix it yourself do, don't call your insurance unless the absolutely have too. Philip

RE: Another Truck Thread - F250 vs Chevy 2500 - Gas Only

I towed once with a 03 1500HD with the 6.0L and had no issues. I'm sure the new 6.0L with the Allison would be sweet. Good luck with your purchase, Philip

RE: First trip out. 1/2 Ton

Congrats on the first successful tow with the 1/2 ton, did it myself a few times. I was pulling about the same weight as you. Not to start a flame thread but my 1/2 ton days only lasted two years. Had a couple of scares with the laws of physics taking over. My first tow with the Duramax was like heaven. Be Safe, Philip
