Roof Coating and A/C

Hi all,
I'm getting stuff together to coat the roof of my 24' 1999 Fleetwood Jamboree. I've settled on which product I'm going to use and how I'm going to apply it, but I have a couple of questions regarding my A/C unit.
The gasket sealing the unit to the roof seems to be fine, however it is original. The unit is a Coleman Mach and is ducted through the roof.
1) Should I lift the unit out and install a new gasket?
2) If I do, which gasket would you recommend? I've seen several with different strips and what not.
3) Is there a write up on doing this?
Thanks,
Eric

RE: How did you attach diamond plate

I'd glue it on with this stuff
3M 8115 Body Panel Adhesive
No holes to drill so no leaks.

RE: House Batteries

And some things, like your Propane Gas Leak Detector might still be on even after you use the disconnect switch. Mine is and it would eventually draw down the batteries.
I have a Progressive Dynamics converter with a Charge Wizard. I leave my coach plugged in 24hrs a day when it is in storage.

RE: House Batteries

It depends on the converter/charger installed in your motorhome. You need to provide us with the make/model of the converter before someone can give you an answer.

RE: Master Tow

4 down towables are a little more money that we want to spend since we are buying a motor home also.
Get a 2 wheel drive manual transmission Hyundai Accent or Elantra, both of which are cheaper than a Tucson and both of which are 4 down towable. Thwy will also get better fuel mileage than the Tucson when you're out driving. Do you really need AWD for your toad?

The Hyundai TSB
We tow a 2007 5-speed Elantra 4-down behind our Class C. It's been a good car.

ABS Light

The ABS light on my 1999 Fleetwood Jamb, Ford E350, will light after the vehicle has moved about 25ft. It will remain lit. I know it's telling me I don't have ABS, but the brakes work and I have continued with my trip.
Now that I'm home I want to fix it. Is there any way I can diagnose this myself or do I need the services of a garage with the proper scanning tools?
TIA,
Eric

RE: Stereo replacement for E-450 Coachmen?

Use Econoline. The next question, 4 or 6 speakers, is where I get hung up.

RE: Stereo replacement for E-450 Coachmen?

When searching Crutchfield, they want to know how many speakers, (4 or 6). I have two speakers in the door (crap), two in back above the dinette (crap) and two outside (more crap). Should I be selecting 6 even though the outside ones seem to be connected to the coach ones?

You're hooked up to city water. Turn off the pump.

RE: What toad for Sprinter?

If old Trackers/Sidekicks are getting to be to dated for you, consider the smallest offerings in the KIA/Hyundai line. They are 4 cyl. and most are available with manual transmissions. I tow a Hyundai Elantra, my wife's daily driver, which is not their smallest automobile and it only weights 2700lbs. A Hyundai Accent is in the 2500lb range. I'm towing with an E-350.

RE: Sterling All-Terrain Issues

phranc... thanks, but I think you missed the point. Roadmaster advertises that the Sterling AT will disconnect in any environment. You shouldn't have to do anything except pull up on the release handles. Obviously, in some cases you have to do much more than that!
Ron
I'm thinking it's a mechanical failure or a maintenance issue; more than likely, maintenance. I bought my Sterling used on eBay and it looks new, but I have no idea what it has really gone through.
I've made exactly 6 disconnects with this bar and except for the first, all were on the same trip. The first three worked flawlessly. The 4th failed, the 5th worked and the 6th failed. I had only cleaned and lubed the bar once before any of these attempts.
Perhaps I need to clean and lubricate more often.
I dunno,

RE: Sterling All-Terrain Issues

They will release but if the toad is putting pressure on the pins you still can not get the pins out.
Just because the bar releases doesn't mean you have enough slack to get the pin out.
Sometimes you have to move the toad forward, either by engine or release of the emergency brake.
So how is this different from a non all-terrain tow bar? I just curious as this Sterling is the only bar I've ever owned and I'm a little disappointed.

RE: Sterling All-Terrain Issues

After you got the pin out did the arm slide back in ?? If so there was load on the pin from the toad.
Yes, after I knocked the pin out, the arm(s) moved easily and I agree, there was a load on the pin from the toad, but I was under the impression that the all-terrain tow bars were designed to overcome this binding.
There is always a little slack. If you have trouble unhooking, start the toad, at engine idle put it in a forward gear, apply emergency brake, gear back to park. This will remove the rearward slack that makes pin removal difficult, especially if you parked going up an incline.
I will try this if they bind the next time. I was too frustrated and tired before I broke out the hammer which was actually therapeutic, but again, why would one (me) pay extra for the non-binding feature and then have to do this to unhook?
Thanks, Gary,
Eric

RE: Sterling All-Terrain Issues

...Were you driving / towing anywhere particularly dirty or dusty?
Not the first time. The second time it rained while we were on the road. These were consecutive events on the same trip with a week stay between during which the toad was disconnected and the tow bar was folded and covered. The bar appeared dirty with a blackish watery yuck on the legs if I ran them in and out.
Thanks,
Eric

Sterling All-Terrain Issues

Hi all,
The last two times I used this tow bar, I had problems disconnecting it. One of the legs remained bound and I had to take a hammer to the pin holding the bar to the car to separate the two. Once it was the right leg and once it was the left leg.
Previously it worked as advertised. I bought it used and cleaned it and lubricated it as per the manual using a silicone based lube. My thinking is that the silicone spray lube I used was inadequate and that maybe I should just use good ole oil.
What say the experts?
TIA,
Eric

RE: Thetford Aqua Magic V

Gray water holding tanks don't smell all that great either. If you haven't used your shower, run enough water in there to fill the p-trap and that will keep gas from entering the bathroom through that pipe.

RE: Bat in RV

Hi - try the OPPOSITE approach to getting bats out of houses/campers/etc. They prefer dark over light - turn ON inside lights - open the door - leaves a big, DARK space compared to being light everywhere else - out they go! Works whenever we get them "in" to visit us! ST
This is true. Bats are not blind. They are not 'eagle-eyed' and they may not see colors, but they see well enough and prefer dark over light. They also scare the******outta me and I don't want to be in the dark with one so I turn on all the lights.
