I have done it, seen people do it and have read on here a lot of people that have had no problems doing it! I wouldn't worry about it.

I have had a Keystone Sprinter 323BHS for the past year. I find it to be a bit long and heavy for a tag along (8650lbs dry, and 36ft overall). I have a few questions about the switch.
I have a 2007 GMC Sierra Classic 2500HD CC, 4x4 short bed. I'm looking at a Forest River Flagstaff Classic Super Lite Fifth Wheel 8528RLWS with a dry weight of 7,572lbs. Will I have a problem pulling a 5er with this set up?
What will I need to have in the bed of my truck (hitch wise)to make this happen and what's the ballpark cost? I want to be able to use my bed while not towing. Any special adapters needed because of the short bed of 6.6ft.
Lastly, would this new set up be easier and more enjoyable to tow than my current set up?
Your truck will have little to no problems towing that FW. I have a short bed with a slider. When I was new at the FW thing, I used the slider all the time. I haven't used it in 2 years. Sliders are around $1000 with $300 to put it in. I would have the deal with the hitch put into it. I did, and they did it without any problem.
FW is night and day to a bumper pull.

Just avoid the 5ers designed as lightweights that have trimmed weight from the frames. If the name of the trailer has anything like "lite", "helium technology" or something similar they are usually not suitable for a hitch.
Also add the boat weight to your 5er and make sure your hitch has enough carrying capacity for both combined.
Helium technology has nothing to do with the frame. It is still a full Lippert steel frame. I have a hitch on mine and it does just fine.

He may have enough truck, but when I am camping I don't like being at a truck stop. Class 8s are loud and leak....a lot. As long as you don't roll in at midnight and leave at 5 a.m. I don't have a problem with it.
Seriously??? His diesel will be no louder than yours. Kind of like the pot calling the kettle black. A diesel is a diesel.
Yep, seriously. The Class 8s are a lot louder than my little 6.7. With all that extra clacking and the air brakes bleeding every 30 seconds, hardly is the relaxing environment I am looking for. And I am cognizant of my engine noise and will always abide by quiet hours. The newer diesels are a lot quieter than the old 7.3s and 5.9s. I love the sound of a diesel, a lot. I like sleep too.

I guess its probably pretty quiet when you're just idling around the campground;)
Do you put the Harley on the back of the truck or do have a 5'ver?
I rarely tow my fiver with my Harley.

In all my 50+ plus years of driving I have only seen one RV wrecked and that was on an icy road with 50-60 mph cross wind gusts, yet I keep hearing how dangerous and death defying these things are.
Most death defying thing I do all summer is try and figure out how I am going to get around Texas Tim and his Explorer XLT towing a 30ft TT up Monarch pass! Mmmmmm, the smell of a burning up Ford......
(just to note, I have smelled burning up Chevy Suburban as well!)
Tying it to the OP, my 2500 (not butt hurt, Mav) tows all the passes in Colorado just fine! Goes down them good too!

I must apologize that I didn't get my counseling from you when I started. That is, I guess, why I am pulling my 36ft FW with my 2500 Dodge Ram 6.7CTD. And yes, it does have airbags.
I have never noticed an E rated tire looking almost flat (they are E rated on 3500s also) or the camber of the front of a 2500 out of whack, seeing how a 2500s front suspension is identical to the 3500.
I have driven 75mph with my FW in tow. Normally I am about 70mph, but occasionally I will speed up a bit.
Love your 3500. Don't hate my 2500; it is nearly identical to yours.

So let me understand this. You paid a professional to install a hitch in the truck and they cut / drilled your brand new 2012 truck in the wrong place. Now all they want to do is weld a patch, contact LineX to fix. I would think the least they could do is not charge you to repair it, and not require you to pay them to install the hitch. This is a brand NEW truck, and they are professionals. If it was me, I would be fighting them to replace the bed, and have it painted to match, along with the hitch and bedliner. Just me, but I could have done it myself and risked messing it up.
For all the misguided out there; this is the correct response. If this happens to you, this is what I would expect to be done. Period.

She has had the car 48 years, she was 44 when she bought it. So basically two lives, one with the car and one without. 576,000 miles is only 12,000 a year. So the Kelly Blue Book value shouldn't have a mileage deduction as it has average miles for a car that age. Fantastic story.....

Guess I must be one of few, but I could care less how many people they were carrying as long as it is legal. If there were only two riding in the coach and both were killed it would still be a tragedy. The fact a 17 yr old was driving is another thing I could care less about. Good for his dad for putting trust into his son. I was 17 when I joined the military, had an M-16 and loaded bombs on planes. This situation is tragic and my thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends. This obviously was an accident whether 17 or 70, and still just as tragic. We have so many things to worry about in this world that it is so pathetic we judge these people when their lives have been crushed. Unless the driver was texting, drunk or high, this was just an awful accident. Judge not, lest ye be judged......just saying.
God bless this poor family in such a time of need......

I don't air up before because it makes the hitch about 4 inches higher. I don't care if the truck is level, just the ride. I would experiment between 25-40 for your FW....for us it keeps the truck bed from bouncing a lot on rougher roads.... When I had 40 psi in them, it sure was rough. Now I run about 27psi. That is 20 pumps a side with the bike pump. Just enough to keep the weight off the overloads and give a little spring but keeps the load nice and steady. When we stop, I let the air out before I disconnect. Brings the truck down lower so the landing gear doesn't have as far to go!

I will set your mind at rest......I bought the vent covers and ran two open when we travelled. People in Colorado and parts west don't get how hard it is in the humidity to cool down. We always have had two A/Cs, just for humid area cool downs! Driving through NE, MO, AR, LA, MS and TX....the venting didn't do squat. Just got to turn on the A/C when you get there! I did notice that if I keep the opening and closing of the doors when we leave to a minimum that the air stays nice and dry inside and isn't too bad on stops and when we arrive. Once the humidity sets in, your doomed to be hot....
So you know, the vents I used had two way fans to either suck in air from outside or push it out of the FW, and neither did any good at keeping it cool when we were cruising down the road.

The simple and uncomplicated answer is up to 30' and under 10k gross trailer, a 250/2500 would be okay. 30' to 34' and the 250/2500 is iffy. More than 34' you're definitely in the 350/3500 range. As for the FW, look for a front LR model and I think you'll find the rear bath will be big enough for you (that will only come in a 34'+ range).
Weights don't coincide with length. I tow 36' with a Ram 2500 and the pin wt is only 2300 lbs with my trailer GVWR @ 13K. 2500 will handle these weights easily.
It is all about pin wt. Anything over 2500lbs will require a 3500 or mods to a 2500. Anything over 3000lbs would do best with a dually.
I am 6'4" and my shower is fine for height. But I am 230 and it is challenging with my girth.

There is a $350-$400 dollar difference in a 2500 vs a 3500. Why not get the extra tow power? Otherwise the trucks are identical. Same mileage and so on.
So we don't get confused, there is no more tow power in a 3500, just extra payload. Spring packs on them are different, drivetrain is the same.

That's what I was thinking. Mine is 10 years old, and I'm still not ready to trade it for a new one.
So, crazy how people make up their minds without knowing the facts. The simple truth is, I certainly wouldn't brag about 17 lemons. All of them have performed well. I stated before, I have had 4-6 at home at one time. I own four today. I have 6 kids and 4 drive.....so I have had to own a lot of cars. Funny how we try and read something into nothing. I loved my Chryslers.......all of them.

Just bought a new Montana HC and it has the a new shortbed friendly cap and I believe I can get to 90 degrees. I never really need to and the times in 4 years I need to turn it 90 degrees? Zero. (and I have a slider and never, ever use it; but it is nice to have...just in case!)

The OP is looking for what they already know to be true; that us that drive diesels didn't just run out and buy one truck and lived happily ever after. Through a slow progression that oddly followed my financial status I wound up with my current truck. If you can afford diesel, than buy it. The torque in a diesel motor is worth every penny. If you don't believe it you may notice the class 8 trucks don't have gas motors.
And a gasser will never get 10-12 mpg towing 13,000+ lbs.
