RE: How much longer is the drive in an RV?

It is a 900 mile drive for us to go to Los Angeles, CA in the winter. Fortunately, I can leave work early enough that we can start the trip the night before. So we leave on Friday at 4pm and drive a couple of hours to Albuquerque or 4 hours to Gallup, NM. Then a long first day, 400- 450 miles. Then just a 5 hour second day. Our kids are now 14 and 16, but we have been doing this for 5 years. The kids are always wanting to leave as soon as possible anyhow. David

RE: Inflatable Kayak users?

We have bought some Hobie Mirage inflatable kayaks. We have 4 now. They have very thick material. We have used them in lakes and on the coast at Puerto Penasco, Mexico. Pulled them across rocks and stuff with no problem. The biggest difference with the Hobie's is they have the mirage drive which propels the kayak with pedals and flippers or you can use the paddles. RE: Swapping gears on a durango

We did weigh the Durango once when towing with the motorhome. It weighed 5260 lbs. without anyone inside. It is an SLT model with the hemi and 4 wheel drive. I don't remember how much gas it had. I found this file http://www.media.chrysler.com/dcxms/assets/specs/2005DurangoSpecs.pdf which lists all the specs and options available for the 2005 Durango David

RE: Swapping gears on a durango

Also, would that alone allow us to make use of the higher tow capacity (it raised it by about 1,600 pounds), or are there other differences between the two set-ups? We bought ours new and we had to drive to Colorado to find one with the 3.92 gears. We were towing a trailer with a 7300 lbs. GVWR. We never weighed it so I don't know the actual weight. We live in the mountains so the 3.92 gears are probably more useful than if you are not going into the mountains. Power is not a problem, but when it downshifts into second gear, the revs will stay pretty high. The 3.92 vs. 3.55 gear was a separate item and is the only difference for the increase in the tow rating. The other item that you would need is the towing group. This includes the larger side mirrors along with extra cooling capacity. David
