RE: Total rebuild, lots of pictures and advice needed

How long will the re-build take? I finished completely rebuilding our 1998 Dutchmen 26BH last April. Took me 18 months, working every weekend, and a few hours after work each day. Take the time you think it will take you and double or even triple that. There is always the unexpected and plenty of "uh-ohs" along the way, weather issues, life events, and "I need a break before I go insane" moments! I thought I could do it all in 6 months, but then as I got into it I decided I wanted to do things right, make some interior layout changes, and make it better than new.

RE: Dump station etiquette (gotta top them all)

If you have ever had an E-Coli infection, you'd REALLY cringe at this guy! This past August I developed sepsis after a prostate biopsy and spent 8 days in the hospital, 3 in intensive care and was off work the entire month. Sickest I have ever been! Holy guacamole! I practically wear a haz-mat suite when I dump our tanks now. (not really but I 'm extra cautious) Because all it takes is for even a minute amount of the "discharge" from the poop tank to enter your body thru a mucous membrane (nose, mouth, eyes, etc.) or thru a cut on the arms or body and you can be one sick puppy :B The odds will catch up with this guy someday.....and when they do....stay clear LOL!

But then again, knowing all the dangers of smoking, I would feel that intelligent folks wouldn't smoke anyway, right?..........:B ....never mind.....I'll just keep this to myself...:M

RE: Ok to refill a propane tank that's only half empty?

Local guy here charges 12 bucks per 20 Lb bottle, empty or half full.....12 bucks. Local Phillips 66 distributor charges by metered amount, but they're kind of out the way and across town, so it;s kind of pick your poison around here.

RE: STATE/NATIONAL CAMPGROUND QUESTION

westernrvparkowner: right on the money! I have a "relative-in-law" that has been on employment for the max period, can afford to have premium cable, has a new laptop and wifi where he can fake job seeking contacts, spends everyday and night with his buddy Jack Daniels, and is just giddy now that he hears there might be yet another extension of unemployment benefits.......worthless...

RE: Hand or Foot Flush

Had a foot flush originally, but with lack of room in bathroom, DW would step on the flusher when getting out of the shower, so now it's a hand flush and upgrade to a taller unit.

RE: Coax cable for RV parks

Ditto on the RG6 and carrying 2 25' cables. I also carry a couple of spare Male to male connectors. Seems everytime I get to the pedestal, someone has taken the splitter the park supplied.

RE: New EcoBoost F150.

A couple of posters have said they don't like trucks. I'm curious as to why. Skip said, "the Arbuckles don't really count as mountains".... :E For the love of Bob Stoops and all that's sacred, say it ain't so Skip! When I lived in Oklahoma (before I came to my senses and moved back to Texas) I said something similar one time and I thought those old boys were gonna rip off their over alls, put on some shoes, and kick my rear end! :p

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

OK I have spent the last 4 days skimming this site and it is great I am currently about page 170 but couldn't wait and figured i may get an answer while i finish looking. Here is my dilemma, While trying to attempt a cool mod of my own i made a big mistake.I was installing a key rack just inside the door to hang keys on and as I drilled through the bedroom wall I ended up witn a 1/8" hole in the outside fiberglass wall What does anyone recommend for a fix that will last Go to your local big box store like Lowes or HD, and in the glues section they should have some Loctite Multi-Purpose Repair Putty. It's an epoxy "dough". I used it when my neighbor kid shot a target arrow thru the outside wall of my travel trailer...... You can just stuff it into the hole, smooth it down to the surface and them touch it up or like someone else said, put a decal or sticker over it. It dries to an off-white color.

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

Hated the tacky brass handles on all of the cupboards, those were the first to go - replaced them all with some nice branch-style handles in a dark bronze. Ours had the tacky bright brass hardware as well and the cabinet edges had a strip of the same tacky bright brass "redneck bling" as the DW called it. I removed the cabinet hardware, cleaned it all well to remove any oils, primed it and painted it with Rustoleum Hammered Bronze spray paint. Saved a boat load on new hardware! I also removed the shiney brass trim from the cabinet edges, filled the grooves with wood filler and sanded it, then used those oak veneer strips that you apply with a hot iron, trimmed it, stained it to match the cabinets and no more "redneck bling".

RE: Deer Ticks Lyme Disease

When we lived in Oklahoma, I could walk to farmer's pond about 1/2 mile from the culdesac we lived on and fish. The DW noticed a "bullseye" rash around where I had removed a tick on my upper arm at the shoulder after one of my "fishing trips" a few days earlier. I had been feeling like I was coming down with the flu for about 3 days and no over the counter stuff seemed to help so off to the ER we went. Dr saw the rash and said it was a "classic" indicator of Lyme disease. A 10 day round of some strong anti-biotics did the trick. But until they kicked in was not fun at all.

RE: Seeking bathroom shelving/cabinet ideas...

I've seen folks hang one of those shoe caddies with the pockets over the bathroom door and put things like shampoo, razors, deodorants, etc in them.

RE: Etiquette when camping with people in tents

I have no problem letting anyone tent camping with our group use our facilities. I did however, have a situation where I was tearing down to leave one Sunday morning about sunrise and had to decline a request to use our bathroom. A group was about 5 spots down from us and had a couple of tents as well as a fiver. They had partied pretty good all nite. And when they saw our friends and I jamming under the awning with our acoustic guitars stopped and listened for a while. One of the young guys came up to me the next morning as I was lowering onto the hitch and asked where the camp bathroom was and I showed him it was about 30 yards down the pavement. He insisited he couldn't wait and wanted to use mine inside. I declined and he insisted, but I made it clear without being rude that he could use the public toilet or why not go back to the fiver and use that one? He mumbled a few obscenities as he walked off and we hitched up and pulled out. I figured I had probably just saved my guitar or other belongings that were packed away inside from walking off, because his demeanor and urge to go just didn't seem right at the time.

RE: DAWN to clean rubber roof?

Have used Spic N Span and also "rig soap". As I live in the West Texas oilfield country, there is a product supply stores have called rig soap. It's actually just a 30 gallon barrel of Tide granulated soap, but it's used to clean everything on a drilling rig. Five gallon bucket, cup of rig soap, brush with a handle and wash away. the granulated Spic n Span, Tide, or other works good because not all of it disolves and the granuals scrub the rubber roof with out harmnig it as they break down a little at a time in the water on the roof during cleaning.

RE: Mold Problem Help!!!

If it is white, then it is possibly wood rot. It can be confused for mold and has the same general odor of mildew. Can you post a picture of it? Regardless it's a bad thing. Wood rot is also spore based and can eat wood up like termites do in a house. If you can't replace the wood, then you have to stop the wood rot and get strength back in the wood. The only product I have found that actually does that is CPES (Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealant) from the Rot Doctor. CPES penetrates the wood and encapsulates the wood rot and prevents the spores from growing. It's expensive, but it works. The area needs to be dry before application, and also the source of the moisture needs to be identified and stopped or you're just _____ing in the wind. Check your P-trap under the tub, it could be leaking. Check the seams on the roof in that area, there could be leak there as well, and of course it's going to flow down. The bow you speak of in the wall doesn't sound promising. I just rebuilt a Dutchmen that looked pristine on the inside until my foot went thru the floor....in the bathroom, by the tub, and it just got worse from there. 18 months later I had replaced the entire floor, etc., etc., ....a complete rebuild. Never again...
