RE: Sparker on the stove not working

If you're handy, you can remove the mechanical igniter and install a battery powered one from Lowes / Home Depot. About $20.00, in the outdoor grill replacement parts section. Very quiet; we're talking a real DW pleaser if it matters. Doug

RE: Battery Shorting and can't find problem

I'd go back and check that you're not installing the batteries backwards. The output of the converter is common to all the 12V DC wiring in almost all trailers. If you have a volt meter; replace the 30 amp fuse, plug in the converter, and read the voltage at the wires you are trying to connect to and see what the polarity is at the battery terminals. Doug

RE: Paralell 12v Water pumps...?

+1 for storing it as a spare. (Alternative to sell on e-bay and buy beer) Doug

RE: Electrical Help

I don't think you have a problem. My Trailer has a breaker labled for the fridge which feeds the fridge but also feeds a number of other outlets. The breaker labled for outlets feeds most of the outlets but not all (rest fed by the fridge breaker). The GFI in the bathroom (fed from the breaker labled for outlets) feeds the outlet in the bathroom and the outlets in the kitchen and the outlet outside the trailer. Unless I'm misunderstanding your post, everything is working, just not as the breakers are labled. If the outlets in the bathroom are protected by a GFI and the outlets in the Kitchen are protected by a GFI I think you're good to go. Regards, Doug

RE: Windows that fold out?

Why would you not expect egress windows to be usable for everyday use. We use the egress window in our bedroom just as often as any other window. Doug

RE: Check Out US Battery's Compare of it's Batt to Trojan!

That's one heck of a graph. Could someone explain it to me??? Reading their text, the best I can gather is that they think something is pretty good about their stuff for some reason, but darned if I can make out what and on what basis they are judging it. Typical hot air. Doug ps. I don't own either battery.

RE: Should I buy a Honda EU2000I or a Yamaha EF2000IS?

I went with the Honda, based purely on the fact that around here there were more Honda outlets than Yamaha. I am extremaly satisfied. From what I have read they are both excellent machines. Doug

RE: Kerr Lake (NC State Park) VOLUNTEER Hosts Needed

DW and I hosted a NC campground last year for a month, and are scheduled to again this year (not Kerr Lake). Our experience was 100% positive. They did want/need us there for weekends, but weekdays were mostly a "could you be there". ALL from the park superintendant to the worker-bees were as plesant and helpfull as you could ever ask for. We are looking forward to it again this year, and hope to be able to do it often in the future. If we wern't already scheduled, we'd certainly give Kerr Lake a look. Doug

RE: Dometic Commercial Grade 15k Air Conditioner

What makes a "Commercial Grade" A/C ???; sounds to me more like "enhanced profit margin grade". In this case, sounds like "vapor grade". Doug

RE: Installed Rigid LED's in place of domes, flickering issue

I have changed out all the Rigid LED's that I have. Of the 5, the one over the bed used the least was still working correctly, of the other 4 all had some of the LEDs dead, and one had some of the LEDs blinking. $100.00 down the tube; I was extremely pleased when I originally installed the LEDs, but would never get anything from them again. Solar question, what happens when you don't need the power

I'm thinking of installing about 200 watts of solar on our 5er; We have a 300 AmpHour battery, so this would pretty much supply our total needs under almost all conditions. BUT: the 5er sits in the driveway unused 6 to 8 months a year. What is the effect/problem/danger of leaving the panels uncovered if there is no place to use the power?? Thanks, Doug

RE: Myrtle Beach State Park or Huntington??

We've stayed at both a number of times. Myrtle Beach is pretty much in the center of town, but far enough from Rt 17 (the main drag) that it's not too noisey. Lots of access to local "stuff" (shopping, movies, beach-party type stuff) . As a campground its a little closer to a commercial campgroud than we prefer. Almost all sites are nicely shaded. Hunting Beach State Park is about 20 miles south of the main drag in Myrtle Beach. If you like beach, this is the place to go. Although it is on a public beach, its location keeps it from being crowded. HBSP has great wildlife and birding if that's in your agenda. Across from HBSP is Huntington gardens; if you go, you get a pass that as I remember is good for about a week. Huntington gardens has a number of events that are free. As someone mentioned above, if you want shade stay in the North end of the park. I think all sites at both parks have water/electric, but neither park has a lot of full service sites, if you need sewer hook-up you will need to get a reservation VERY early. Both parks are great. RE: "Sodium Free Drinking Water" in batteries?

Don't sweat it. A. thank wife for helping. B. In the future use distilled water. C. Its done; what TINY damage has occured is done. D. There is no rational fix; drain the battery and replace the acid; gimmie me a break! E. It has probably reduced the life of the battery a total of 3 or 4 days, simply replace the battery a week earlier than you had originally planned and you'll have no problems. Doug

RE: water tank capacity increase

We originally had a 30 gallon tank installed under the sofa. I removed that tank and bought 3 40 gallon tanks on e-bay. The tanks are hung below the RV between the main I-beams for the trailer. One tank is tied to the original fill/vent. I added a second fill/vent for the other two tanks, the fill lines, the vent lines, and the pump draw lines are each T'd together to essentially create an 80 gallon tank. The pump draw lines are each valved (one to the single 40 gal tank and one for the 80 gal tank)so I can select which tank to draw from. I had previously removed the 40 gallon grey tank and installed 3 35 gallon grey tanks. We can now stay over a week anywhere without problem. My GVWR is such that I could drive with the tanks full, although I normally only fill the 40 on the road (if needed).

RE: solar panels

we have a set of 300AH GC batteries. Fully charged, we can go a week at a time with them (we have actually gone 10 days). All lights have been changed to LED. LP detector/ radio/ HW heater/ Reefer have a draw of about .5 Amps continuously, reefer draws 1 amp when gas valve is open, HW heater the same. This results in a usage of 12 to 15 AH a day. Water pump uses 7 amps running for about 1.5 AH a day (7 amps times 15 min run per day) our LED lights use about 2 amps when on (average 4 hours a day for total of 8 AH per day). If you add these up, you're looking at most at about 30 AH per day. For us that is an easy week on a full charge. Some recommend never going below 50% of battery charge, for daily or very regular discharge, probably worth sticking to; for occasional use going to 20% is no problem. Changing to LED lamps is the easiest way to greatly extend your staying time. In cold weather, the furnace will KILL your battery in no time; time for a relatively large solar system or a generator. RE: Suburban SF-30 furnace limit switch cycles

A limit switch is a SAFETY device; it is designed to prevent damage in abnormal circumstaces. It should NOT be operating under normal conditions. If it is, something in the system operation or installation is not correct. Regards, Doug

RE: Dual water expansion tanks ?

I added a 2 gal tank horizontally; find the pump cycling to be fine. If you want to carry more water, I'd suggest you add fresh water tanks somewhere else; 2 gallons more in the expanison tanks is just not worth the effort. I replaced the original 30 gallon tank with 3 40 gallon tanks hung under the trailer; we can now dry camp for a week at a time. Regards, Doug

PD 9200 series converter manual voltage control ??

There is an excellent post in this forum on how to modify the charge wizzard for a PD 9100 series converter to control the voltage output; has anyone seen a post on how to control the voltage output from a PD 9200 series converter. Thanks, Doug
