RE: Two Sleeping Areas - Separated

Sportsmobile can build a pop up roof that gives a nice separate sleeping area for one or two on the "second floor". I'm not sure that the single beds you can make in a Roadtrek are comfortable for an adult- I've read comments here that they aren't.

Thanks for the updates on Alex, Spot, and your neighborhood birds, flowers, and critters.

RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spot the Christmas Cat

I'm so glad to hear that you're home and feeling better. When my husband was recovering from successful cancer treatment, I knew he was feeling better when our dogs became unglued from his side. Pets are the best healing aide, IMHO.
Hope you see the barn swallows soon.

RE: Best cot?

tplife-
I don't think the phrase "you're a jackass" can be based on proven science.
Cots are fine if you're a warm weather camper, but dangerous for winter camping. Thousands of people camp comfortably with cots in warm weather without dying.

RE: Cat parasite in humans, interesting article

The article doesn't say that possibly induced schizophrenia benefits the parasite- it says that humans and other large mammals are believed to be "dead end" hosts for the parasite. But it points out that all mammals have most of their genes in common so that humans could be affected due to "mistaken identity". I think they mean that the parasite changes behavior in mice or rats to benefit the parasite and that we can be similarly influenced when we happen to get infected just because we have so much genetically in common with mice and rats because we are all mammals.

RE: shih tzu for a camping dog????

I have to put in a vote for a toy or mini poodle. They don't shed. I keep my 2 in short cuts and don't have to do any grooming in between their haircuts every 6-8 weeks. They are so smart that it's almost scary and very eager to please. My 2 were the easiest dogs to housebreak that I ever had. Also very cute and loving. When my husband was undergoing cancer treatment, the one we had at the time was a very attentive nurse- he cuddled with my husband and napped with him the whole time my husband slept- which was at least 16 hours a day at times. When we got the puppy, while my husband was recovering, he did the same even as a puppy. Ours aren't yappy either- we've trained them not to be and it wasn't hard. As with any popular breed you have to be careful about personality- so choose a rescue poodle or a breeder carefully.

RE: Cat parasite in humans, interesting article

This is absolutely stunning information. It sounds like if we can treat the infection in humans we could significantly reduce the incidence of schizophrenia!! I'm a retired psychiatrist, and I can tell you that schizophrenia is a terrible terrible lifelong illness with horrifying effects on the patient and his/her family as well as large costs to society at large.
I wonder if on some level this caused the ideas about women with pet cats being crazy ( witches) and of black cats being bad luck???????

RE: Why I Love My RV

JiminDenver,
I don't understand how you could find a sleep number bed uncomfortable, unless you didn't adjust it properly. A sleep number bed adjusts from very very soft to very very firm. I love mine because it isn't the same bed every night- if it ever doesn't feel perfect for me I just make it soft, then slowly inflate it until it is just right.

RE: So long ole guy

I'm so sorry to hear about Ranger. It can be so hard to know when to let a beloved pet go, but you really didn't have a choice. My granddog is a lab so I know how wonderful labs are. He'll have lots of company over the rainbow bridge, including my Freda, Jason, Rascal and Lacey. As to those who say dogs don't go to heaven- that's ridiculous-it couldn't be heaven without dogs. So you'll see him again.

RE: Hey Pit Bull Owners!!!

Dogs that have been bred for generations to do a certain thing tend to do it. I know that Newfoundland dogs will pull people out of the water without being trained to do it, and a border collie mix that I once had tried to herd farm animals the first time he saw any, with no training. I believe that pit bulls were trained to fight in pits , and to win fights they had to ignore pain and hold on once they had their teeth in an opponent. That means that when one of them does become aggressive it can be more deadly than other dogs - it is very hard to get them to let go of a person or other dog once they have him/her in their jaws. I'm sorry, I love dogs, but I avoid pit bulls.

RE: Why do we have pets?

1995brave
"women like cats more than dogs" is BS. I am a woman and like dogs, not cats, and I know men who prefer cats. That's a stupid generalization , like "men are better drivers than women" when actually men have higher accident rates.
