RE: Yellowstone or Grand Canyon

Thanks for all the feedback folks. I wasn't expecting such an overwhelming choice to be Yellowstone. Looks like we're going to Yellowstone!

Yellowstone or Grand Canyon

We're going to be in Southwest Colorado and later head up to Seattle. If you had to decide whether to see the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone Park which would you choose? We plan on spending about 10 days in Colorado and take about 7 to 10 days to get to Seattle so the Grand Canyon/Yellowtone trip would be included in the 7 to 10 day portion. We're from Ontario, so, in your experienced opinions which area would be your choice to see (assuming we have time for only one). Thanks for the advice.

RE: Roadtrek Macerator Redux

Okay, here's my suggestions. I have a Flojet, but, the Shurflo may be similar. Check the fuse in the button (handle?) on a Flojet it is a 20 amp fuse. Check that first. Then make sure you turn the impeller screw a bit to free it up. Again, on a Flojet it's behind a rubber covering on the end of the pump. Not sure this helps, but, hopefully it's a simple problem.

RE: screen door

I'd be interested in seeing if the Magic Mesh works on my Roadtrek too. OldRadios please let us know if it works on your van. I was just looking at their website earlier and was wondering if it would work.

RE: Port Hardy to Prince Rupert ferry

You can park at the Port Hardy ferry docks free the night before (at least we did). This was for the early morning departure. Quite convenient since you are already in line for the ferry. If I remember correctly, they even wake you up in the morning.

RE: Roadtrek with kids

I don't have kids, but, I don't believe a Roadtrek is very practible for 2 adults and 2 kids. Yes, I know a Versatile can seat 4 and sleep 4, but, don't forget you need space for clothes, toys, and other stuff. We have a Rt Popular now and I think 4 people would drive us nuts. Think bad weather and rain.....

RE: Cast Iron Dutch Oven Cooking...

Suzanne and Brad, for your Dump Cake do you add any liquid to the mix? It sounds similar to the coke cake recipe. Does the canned fruit have enough liquid?

RE: going to Alaska

Best advice I would have would be to spend as much time there as possible. Better to stay in an area for a longer time than drive each day.

RE: Front Brake Vibration

I've had the vibration while in Alaska and haven't had it since. My brakes were checked after my trip and they were fine. I wouldn't worry about replacing anything till needed.

RE: How to buy a new Roadtrek

I bought mine used, so I can't give any first hand advice on buying new. However, we saved over $35,000 on buying a 3 year used RT with only 7,000 kms. Good luck on your purchase, I know you'll love it.

RE: 2002 Roadtrek Dash A/C stopped working, and now works fine

I had a similar problem during a heat wave earlier this summer. AC ran fine, then stopped. After getting off the highway and driving through a city, the AC started working again. I don't know what happened, but, I suspect it was the blower motor (no air came through the vents). I was going to replace it, but, since I haven't had the problem since I'm going to hope it was one of those one time weird things that sometimes happens. If you do find out your problem, please let us know. Good luck.

RE: Violent shaking when braking downhill

When we went to Alaska a couple of years ago I had a similar problem of shaking brakes going down long steep declines (Roadtrek). Had them checked in Dawson City and they could not find any problem with the brakes or front end. A mechanic there told me it was quite common when the brakes overheat. I only had the problem going into Skagway and Dawson City and have never had it since. My mechanic checked my vehicle when I got back home and he couldn't find any problems as well.

RE: Overnighter in Cold Weather

In a popup I'd likely go the bottled water route, leaving the RV winterized and use windshield antifreeze to flush the toilet.
Why would you use windshield washer fluid when RV antifreeze is available? Is the $1 difference more important than using the right product

RE: Windshield Washer Fluid for winterization

Why use toxic windshield washer fluid when you can use the correct product for winterizing? As others have mentioned, you may go through possibly 2 gallons to winterize. Is the $4 per year that much difference? I would use the right product and be a responsible RV owner.

RE: Best Boondocking RV?

If you are concerned about not attracting attention, then a Class B is the best boondocking vehicle. Off road stuff, not so good, urban boondocking a B is Best!

RE: Every day only car?

I drive my RT all year. I winterize it and put winter tires on it every year as well. One suggestion I have is to have it Krown Rustproofed each year and make sure you protect the hinges on the side storage compartments from salt damage during the winter. It you don't drive alot of miles, it make sense to have only one vehicle.

RE: Can u mix rv anti-freeze and windshield fluid?

I don't understand why people have a problem with using the proper product for winterizing your system. I sometimes read about people using windshield washer fluid for flushing the toilet in the winter. The cost difference between windshield washer fluid (which is toxic) and RV antifreeze can't be more than $2 a bottle difference. Just use the right product and don't contaminate the water system to save a couple of bucks.

RE: Has Anyone Taken Their Class B To A Drive In Movie?

I've taken my Roadtrek to a drive in and they had a section where to park. It was also for trucks and SUV's. I parked facing the screen. I made sure the entrance awning was high enough to pass safely.
