RE: How does the snow, ice, salt affect the Class B chasis?

We use our B (2000 GMC)all year and have had extensive rust on the underneath due to the agressive chemicals (salt alternatives) they use to melt snow these days. My brake lines and transmission lines rusted through and I have a lot of rust on the frame and now the bumpers; hardly any on the underside of the floor. I think it's mostly due to the inferior plating or conversion coatings that were used and cheap recycled metal. I wash the underside often if it's a snowy winter (amazingly not once this year). With the extent of rust you describe after only one year, it sounds like it was a environmental test vehicle! I'd see if you could return it and start over. I'd be concerned about the hidden corrosion that may start fronm the inside.
If it's basically surface corrosion due to inferior metal coatings and you want to keep it, try to get some of our Northern RV'ers (Canada) to post about their annual or bi-annual rustproofing procedures at some of their local service stations.

Georgie Boy 2450

Looking for information from owners' experiences with the 2002-2006 25 foot Georgie Boy on the wide track workhorse chassis. Is the payload marginal at a little over 2000lbs and do you find it limits stuff you can take on extended travels? How does it handle in terms of porposing due to a shorter wheelbase and how does it track? Any particular things you like or not? It appears to be a very well designed for such a short motorhome but I can't find much info on them. They look great too! Thanks

RE: shower toilet sink combo unit

I looked for the same thing when I was doing my conversion. At that time I could only get that kind of combo unit from Europe, so I went with individual pieces and custom build my own. Look at the "combo bath" unit at Sportsmobile.com for ideas; maybe they would sell you one.

RE: Re-painting fiberglass roof on a "B"

Check out Awlcraft (imron) for a possible solution. We will probably use this when we repaint our fiberglass boat. Lots of auto paint shops use Imron so I would think you could get one (like Macco) to do the job if it's not a DIY project.
Landyacht318...I bought that HY-Tech paint years ago when I put our roof on but never used it. I was going to paint it on the inside before finishing. Did you find that it helped to insulate as advertised? Do you recommend mixing it in the paint for an exterior application and if so can it be sanded or buffed smoothed to get a mirror finish with a final clearcoat?

RE: Assateague Island

We always plan a Maine trip around Columbus day. A couple of years ago the forcast was for a cold rain for the weekend. Changed plans and went south to Assateague. As good as Maine but warmer. Between Assateague and Chincotegue is a wildlife sculpture Studio. The artwork is world class. It's a must see as is meeting the artist. September's a little early to see the migration of waterfowl that happens more towards Thanksgiving but I can't think of a better place to camp at that time of year except Maine. Bring your bikes!

RE: Endless Breeze Fan

Yes. I wish I'd have bought it long ago. It's a great accessory for a Class B since it fits almost anywhere.

Endless Breeze Fan

We recently bought the 12 volt Endless Breeze Fantastic Fan. I bought it for our boat not thinking I needed it for the B since I had an ocillating fan in the rear that does a great job. However, the Endless Breeze is portable and came in very handy for my daughter sitting in the middle seat when parked at the beach. It has 3 speeds and throws as much air as an A/C box fan. Low amp draw for solar and relatively quiet. A great B accessory for boondocking in the heat or just parking at the beach. One addional note: using a fan with air conditioning makes it much more effective as the air temperature is much more uniform which translates to more efficient cooling with a smaller BTU unit.

RE: Installing Roof Vent Cover: Safe To Be On Fiber Glass Roof?

I installed a Fantastic Fan in the middle of my just installed fiberglass roof several years ago. You can't believe how thin and unsupported most fiberglass tops are, at least where I put mine. There are stengthening ribs towards the rear of the top but it may still flex with your weight. I had to build up the roof with fiberglass and wood to adequately install the fan. The issue with flexing the roof is that the gel coat may begin to surface crack and discolor over time (happened on my previous van). You can test it first and if it gives at all I'd opt for a ladder. Check out VHB tapes, JB Weld, or using epoxy rather than screws to mount the cover.

RE: Recommendations for a Portable Toilet in my Conversion Van?

A nice alternative to having the toilet waste tank removed from inside the van is the cassette toilet by Thetford. This model needs to have an access door to remove the holding tank but other models can be set up so that the holding tank can be removed from the outside by opening the rear door. Had ours for years and is much more convienent than the portable type; IMHO of course.

RE: drinking water

Approximately 6 months according to this document. Should be good to go for at least a season. We regularly drink water from our tank and just ensure that it's sanitized at least once a year. For non-chlorinated water we replenish every month just in case. We bought this (GSS2 Series) in case were stuck in the boonies and run out.

RE: Exterior storage boxes/racks?

Check out this trunk. It's made a big difference in carrying things we don't want inside. It's lockable, waterproof, and we keep it permanently mounted. A little pricey; could also be a cost effective DIY project.

RE: Thetford Cassette Toilet Pump - Springtime Sticking

Colorado_Dave
I have the C-200 S/CS model and my in-line pump quit the spring of the third year. I just thought it was a faulty pump. Since pumps should last much longer, I am thinking maybe it could be due to the RV antifreeze like yours was. I use mine for winter camping and skiing and use the RV antifreeze full strength since it can get below 0F. I will check it this spring in a month or so when I convert it over to plain water. The pump I use is the LVM 4lgpm submersible in-line pump (LVM-105). Kind of pricey since it's and English import. It has the perfect pressure and volume for the application.
Thanks for posting.
