RE: First time traveling long distance

I used to always seek out a Wally World or Cracker Barrel while on my way, but last trip down I stopped at little parks along the way. I must say, I quite enjoyed that and I think that will be my plan from now on. I would think, your first time driving long hours, you might want to look into this too and plan out the stops along your route.

RE: Oh that smell. I now have it.

Actually, is it normal for you to not use the toilet? If so, I'd have to assume that it's normal for no water to be in the bowl.
If that's the case, it's possible that your toilet seal has dried out and is not sealing. This will let smells from the tank into the unit even if the vent is clear and you'll need to put some water in, use ice cubes and bring it for a drive before trying to empty.

RE: Any Prov. Park CGs in Ontario/Niagara Falls Region??

I hope you have given the Ontario Parks website a good look, with special attention to the fees. Their last increase a couple of years back drove me away from them. Although many state parks in the US are some of the lower cost alternatives, up here they are on the most expensive side of the grid.

RE: Please wash your hands

Do the people that don't use gloves at the dump station pick up their dog poo bare handed. Just sayin!
Now it has been a while that I've been out of school, but I think there is a pretty big difference between not touching poo and touching poo. Just sayin!

RE: Motorhome Delivery problems

Also the dealer failed to bring me my original documents required to cross border.
I wouldn't hand over my money and take delivery without proper documentation. Title and BoS.
Depending on the border crossing, or the person you're speaking to at the border crossing, they may have requested the original documents be couriered to them ahead of time. My brother is currently in the process of importing a Harley and the person he spoke to at the border told him that they require the ORIGINAL title days ahead of his crossing, so he had to have the seller FEDEX them over. Coincidentally, he's importing the motorcycle he bought from a seller in California.
To OP : did you even ask where the originals are? Maybe this is the case here too.

RE: Moving to Ontario - Safety Inspection

I get all my work done at a little garage on Merivale, just south of Hunt Club. RV Canada referred me to him. Always pleased with his work.

RE: Argh- totally screwed up!

I'm just a little puzzled about how you didn't know that you did not make reservations...
Good luck in your search. I know it's going to be a pretty awesome weekend up here, but too many family functions to go camping (we celebrate both my brother's birthdays this long weekend).

RE: Teenager At Home and RVing

Although I would not be comfortable leaving my 14YO daughter alone, I have known people to leave their child alone for a week or two while on vacation south since she was 13 and she didn't want to go. Only you know whether your child is mature enough and able enough to handle the responsibility, not other people on an internet message board.

RE: Is 31 foot too long for small campgrounds?

as far as finding a campground that wouldn't fit a 31 footer, I have yet to find a place where I had to turn away because my 35 footer wouldn't fit. Doesn't mean I won't come across a place where it won't fit, just that I haven't as of yet. If I do, there will be another down the road where I will fit and didn't use the length as a reason to be concerned about my purchase.

RE: Driving Question

Go to a parking lot with your rig. Get a friend to come along and park their car in a spot where, if you were on the highway, it would be safe to turn into the lane. Then you'll have an idea where and how big the car is in your mirror and judge by that when you're on the road.

RE: Wires not staying on generator distributor cap.

Sometimes, replacement wires do not fit the distributor cap as tightly as the OEM wires. Have the wires or cap been replaced or are they OEM? If not, you may want to consider replacing both. Another member may have other ideas.

They're the same as when I bought the MH 2 years ago. Can't give history, as far as that is concerned.

Wires not staying on generator distributor cap.

I'm not sure on all the technical terms for these items, or if the part is actually called a distributor (like cars), but, basically, the wires that go to the generators 2 spark plugs are always coming off the distributor cap. I push them on as hard as I can, but every time I've had an issue with starting the generator, it's always been because one of them has come off.
Is there something I can get to 'lock' those wires on so they won't come off unless I want them to? I also noticed, by feeling around behind the genny, that it seems like the distributor is just hanging there and is not held on by anything. I can't feel anything that tells me it should be sitting on something or hooked onto something, so it seems like the weight of the distributor is being suspended by the spark plug wires, which I assume is causing the problem. There is not enough room in the bay for me to fit my big fat head in behind there and see firsthand.

RE: Massena Kampground, Massena, NY - anyone been?

We go there regularly....it is nice a clean and quiet. Try to get a river site.
Full hook up sites include cable (lots of channels) if you are into that.
Bathrooms are spotless.
The people that run the place are friendly. Mostly people from Ontario camp there. US Customs at Massena are very used to campers going there, so pretty painless to cross.
There is a mall and grocery store nearby and a Walmart a mile or two down the road.
The only negative point is that the pool is not heated so too cool for my liking.
Well, I didn't get much choice when making the reservation - only 4 sites were available for that weekend due to Canada Day weekend and Independence Day is on the Wednesday. I chose the one at the end of the entry road and right near the dog walk. I like seeing nothing but open space beside my MH instead of someone else's wall so, with the road there and no other spots on the other side, it makes me feel like my site is much bigger.

RE: Solar mounted to AC shroud?

I have seen several laying on the side of the road still attached to the shroud. The shroud broke free and took the panel with it.
That's what I was thinking would happen - that the lift caused by air passing under and over the solar panel while driving would add stress somewhere that it wasn't designed for.

Solar mounted to AC shroud?

I usually go up and inspect the caulking on the roof a couple of times a year. Last time, I had a look around and noticed that there are a couple of MHs that have solar panels mounted on top of the AC shroud.
I'm thinking about getting a couple of panels, but I'm wondering... is this a safe install? I didn't think that the shroud would be strong enough, but it would sure beat extra holes in the roof.

Any idea how long it takes for poop to break down in our tanks?
Quick answer - longer than it should stay in your tanks.
