yosemite, merced, madera boondocking?

looking for a place near Yosemite to park the MH and take the toad into Yosemite for the day. We are passing through this area (on the way to San Francisco) and wanted to take a day to go in, but that is all the time we have.
My first thought was to park in Merced or Madera at a Walmart, drive in and out that day and stay the night and move on the next day. This would save time and money not driving the MH in and allow us more flexibility to explore in the time we have. But looking for suggestions and thoughts on good possible places around that area. So i am turning to you that have some experience around there for direction. thanks!

RE: I 80 exit 410 boondocking

I saw the Piolt on line, but then saw the welcome center, was thinking the welcome center may be a better place. Lensatic, do you think the casino will allow overnight parking, this was just a stop in at 10pm and leaving early in the am. did not plan to enter the casino.

I 80 exit 410 boondocking

Can someone tell me if you can overnigh park at the NV welcome center at exit 410. will be heading home from the west this summer and looking for an overnight stop here. Would be a good point to stop in our travels.
Also any good websites that say which states allow overnight parking at their restareas.
thanks all

RE: Trip West

GO FOR IT!!! We are actually planning similar trip next summer 3wks from Richmond, VA - going to the west coast and back. for us younger families we don't have the vacation and time to spend more than 3 weeks, at least that is our problem.
Our plan, since we have been around the east and lived a couple years in Texas is to head to Texas quickly and then slow down some. My mapped plan so far is driving about 5-8 hours each day and spending one day in location for sights. We will then spend 6-9 days in CA/west coast area seeing and doing what we want then heading home. Our 21 night adventure will require 2 or 3 days of LONGGGGGG driving days 14 or so hours to get to and from the midwest, but those will not be the normal days. Our goal is to agree on sevral "big" sights we want to see along the way and then each of the 3 of us gets their choice of 2 sights they want to see.
We will surely go back some day and do more but I want to make the memories with the kid while she is still at home. flying and renting is not a financial option for us - this trip is already looking to cost around $6-$7,000, rental would add another $3,000 or more.
Say as the OP asked, what are some must see places you would list? Any places to stay away from?

I have just gotten the Roadmaster Falcon with everything to hook up to the car - even the piecies that stick into the baseplate that twist and lock. any help?
I have seen it online for 300 or so + shipping. Thanks for any help.

RE: Back up cameras

i just got one from Tadi brothers, online store. The wireless was like $220 and i installed on my new to me 99 Winnie Adventurer 35'. worked well with some occasional interference on my maiden voyage last week. full color 7" screen and saw the little blue bug behind me the whole way. worked well in night vision as well. Mine is mounted to the back of the trailer permenantley. I would think you could find some way of mounting inside and finding power supply easier, if you want to move it around i would suggest some "12v power supply (cigarette lighter style) plugs mounted in places you want to put camera and then a mount. they do need a 12v power supply even with wireless - camera and screen. They do sell a 2 camera system and the screen i have has input for 2 even though i am only using one.
