Thank you for the update.
So very sad.

RE: Generator starting by itself?

My generator did this several times last winter. Then one day I found that the remote start switch inside the RV would not work any longer. I checked everything out and finally had to pull all the wiring from the remote starter switch back to the generator.
That is when I found it... the wire had rubbed on the frame and broke the insulation. Moisture must have gotten in which obviously caused the problem until finally the wire corroded in two, breaking the continuity to the switch.
I replaced the wire and have had no trouble with the generator starting on it's own ever since.

RE: Hot Water Heater not working on gas side

I have a similar problem and after messing with it for several days I found out that the wire from the circuit board to the igniter was damaged. It just pulled right out of the back of the igniter.
I stripped a little insulation off the end and shoved it back in tight and the heater fired right up and burned properly.
One of these days I need to get a new igniter.

RE: Canadian Couple missing since July

Unfortunately I could not find the original thread and a second one that had been opened had been locked so I started this one a while back to keep it out there.
As do you I think about these people (maybe not as often) but frequently.
I feel very sad for the family and hope that at some point they will be found so the family will have closure.
I am also curious about what has become of the individual(s) that were arrested relating to this crime.
I am also curious as to the outcome of the RCMP's bungling aspects of the investigation.
As for the family... If they read this or if someone they know reads this I would like them to know that I wish them peace in this trying time and speedy resolution to the matter.
Maybe "Unsolved Mysteries" should pick up the story to try to stir up some information.
Well it has been a year since I last posted to this thread and I had virtually forgotten about it until today. I do not know why but I woke up this morning and the first thing in my mind was this couple and a burning desire to find out what happened to them.
Does anyone out there know what happened to them?
Are there any articles with any updates to this story?

RE: Highway Truck lost a wheel!

When I was in the Air Force and stationed in Germany I worked in the base tire shop. One of the other guys there had to change all eight tires on a trailer so he ordered the tires and started pulling the old ones off. Some block head switched one of the rims at some point and one of the rims was slightly smaller than the other seven. He did not notice. They were all one-peice rims, not split rims. He changed the tires on the rims and as he was putting the rim back on the trailer when the rubber slipped off the steel and blew the tire and 110psi of air pressure in his face.
Scared the heck out of him and scuffed him up a bit but he was not hurt badly. He had to stop working in the tire shop... was too scared to work on the big tires any more.
My first Air Force assignment was in Florida. There was a guy working in the shop that had several scars all the way up his arm and in to his shoulder. The story went that he was airing up a split rim truck tire and the locking ring was not seated properly. He had not removed the valve core from the tube.
He noticed the ring slipping so he tried to release the air pressure and the chuck came off the valve. The tire was in a tire cage and he reached in to reconnect the chuck when the ring came off and the tire blew. It broke his arm in about four places... compound fractures! He never worked on tires again.
Those truck tires are nothing to mess with and everything to respect. There is over 100psi pressure in them and they weigh about 200 pounds each plus the rim. When they let loose on the road they are traveling at about 60 miles per hour and they are nothing more than a runaway missile of destruction.
Just the tread ripping off can kill and maim. If just the tread hits your car it can TEAR IT UP! and cause you to loose control!

RE: Highway Truck lost a wheel!

here's a video of a similar situation, but this poor guy was just standing there pumping gas when what looks like both wheels of a dually run him over. ouch.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVF4ITTlebwWow! What do you think are the chances of a dually running right up between the car and the pumps and smacking the guy just standing there!?

RE: Highway Truck lost a wheel!

Thay is the exact reason I don't ride beside trailertrucks. Imagine IF you had been 3' away from him when it ran off, and hit that hard with both of you doing 65 mph. Not a fun day.I am in NY right now and just Today in the news there was a report about a flatbed tractor/trailer that threw a wheel which landed on top of a car being driven by a 80 year old lady. CRUSHED the car and killed the driver. As of 6pm Eastern time traffic was still tied up for at least 4 miles. So yes you were lucky! Someone could have been killed!

RE: Poor Guy (apparently new DP owner)

I'm thinkin' the driver probably should have taken a break and allowed the weather to clear up a bit. Schedules are fine, but not at great personal risk. RVing is supposed to be for relaxation and enjoyment of the trip as well as the distination.
Don't take the trip so seriously that you can't take a break when needed ...
Dan Stevens
I was thinking the same thing. When conditions change that you are out of your element or comfort zone the next exit or rest stop is your best friend... safer for you and every other motorist on the road.
Unfortunately the way you describe this guy's driving it sounds like he was a hazard to other motorists and he should have waited until the weather cleared before entering the gorge.

RE: The Hartford Insurance Co. backed out of a legit quote

I do not understand why your progressive policy went up 50%. I have had Progressive since 2003 and now have it on a car, pickup, two motorcycle and a fulltimer's policy on the RV. My rates went down about 5% this year and I finally qualify for the zero deductible plan this year.
