RE: 2012 Winnebago Adventurer

Being a Ford chassis owner for the third time, I suggest all Ford Chassis owners read this info on this site: Handling fix before spending any $$$'s on after market fixes. This is a no cost fix for most as most can make the fix themselves. And if for some reason after doing it you don't think the handling is better you can change it back to original and go buy all the after market products you wish.

RE: Adding king mattress

Depending on how your bedroom slide out is you may have to watch the length of the new mattress. When we changed ours from Queen to King length was our problem so we had to order a 80" long mattress.

RE: Fuel Stops for Gas?

I have found most gas stations can be used, but you have to learn what to look for and how to approach the pumps. I usually wait for a outside row of pumps to clear, then pull up to the pump leaving a several feet between me and the pump. By staying out away from the pump and being on the outside row it allows you more room to get out around the pump to leave. I never worry about blocking other pumps or traffic.

Short stays of a week or two I leave the tow bar on. Longer stays I take it off.

RE: Lug Nuts (Torque)

I'm a bit confused- is this the spare?
You say the shop broke the bead while moving it "under the door"- is the repair of that what you want inspected?
Or:
If you're installing this wheel/tire on your rig and you want to make sure of the torquing of the lugnuts at that point...
As youve already discovered, many tire shops use impact wrenches that get within what they consider the right range for wheels...
in fact, it's my understanding that very few actually use torque wrenches when installing wheels on any vehicle.
If you want to be ultra sure of your torque, you might buy your own 600 lb. torque wrench, widely available!
Here's a link to one for around $70.00 0-600 lb. torque wrench
We have one like that and it's a bit of a beast to use...
I've heard that torque multipliers work pretty well, and are easier to use than the straight 600 lb. torque wrench.
And here's an el cheapo from Harbor freight that looks interesting
Lug Nut multiplier/remover
Hard to believe that it would work at that price, but you never know!
The link for the torque wrench is only a 600 inch pound, not even close to what the OP needs.

RE: RV Antifreeze Disappeared

If you have a hose that sucks the rv anti freeze out of the jug and you used it and if you have at the city water connection a valve maybe marked city/tank and it's switched to tank the anti freeze will go in the fresh water tank.

RE: Trickle charger or hooked up

As our onboard charger seems to over charge and boil the water off I like to use a timer and leave ours plugged in 24/7. I just use a low cost timer from a discount store, then set it to come on some were between a hour or 2 at day. It keeps my batteries charged and I don't have to worry about the batteries getting low on water even if it sits for months at a time.

RE: Dual pane windows

If you have never had dual pane windows you won't miss them. If you have had other RV's with them then pass on the one without them. As far as installing them after the fact your looking at a high dollar item and a problem getting windows that will fit correctly. Even Winnebago can't replace there older dual pane windows in some cases because they can't get the right size to fit the opening correctly. Mine is a 2008 and new replacements are to small for the original opening.

RE: Replacing Slide Seals Tough Job?

Dust the seals with baby powder and see if that improves them. That's what the factory did to ours when I took it in complating about the sticky seals. You have to do it whenever they start to stick, but it worked for us.

Might be time to worry a little

Minnesota Goes After RVers Evading Sales Tax
The state said Wednesday it is investigating 270 cases in which Minnesotans may have set up shell companies to evade paying sales tax on luxury recreational vehicles that can cost more than $1 million.
According to a report in the St. Paul Business Journal, the Minnesota Department of Revenue said in a news release it has closed 22 other cases since Oct. 2010, collecting $230,000 in sales taxes, penalties and fines.
The department said in most of these cases, the Minnesota residents set up shell limited liability corporations in Montana, which does not charge sales tax. The Minnesotans buy the RVs through the Montana corporations and register the vehicles in that state, yet the RVs often are kept in Minnesota.
The state said the high-end RVs cost between $150,000 to more than $1 million.
Minnesota has a 6.5% sales tax, which translates into $9,750 for a $150,000 RV and $65,000 for a $1 million RV.
The state said Minnesota residents convicted of evading the motor vehicle sales tax could face felony criminal charges in addition to having to pay back taxes, penalties and interest.

RE: Do you use pad locks when hooking up your toad?

I also use keyed a like padlocks. I don't worry about someone stealing the car so much as I think about someone pulling a pin and I drive off without noticing it.

And lets not even talk about the clear front protective material Winnebago will install at around $1200 that only lasts a few years and gets brown spots under it. Then it looks terrible and is nasty stuff to remove without damaging the paint.

RE: Portable elect heater query

All portable electric heaters that plug into a standard outlet and are rated at 1500 watts give off the same amount of heat no matter if they cost $12 at Walmart or $400 at the top dollar store. Find a heater the size you want and the features you want on it, ask the store to plug one in so you can hear the fan run.
