RE: Where should I carry the generator

I had a good hitch installed (bolted and welded) on my 33 foot cardinal and then a cargo carrier rated for 500 pounds. I have used it there for the past seven years without any problems what so ever. Also my plug for the shore power is right in the back so it is very handy. Of course my honda 3000 is chained to the hitch and cargo carrier for a little security. Haven't had any theft problems either. I am sure someone will show up with a picture of a setup like mine.

RE: Two generator questions

Atchafalay you must not have caught in the thread that I have a honda eu 3000is. I also have decided to go with a front mount for my cargo carrier that I keep my 3000 on when using my 5th wheel. I was just checking the manual on my 11k btu truck camper ac it says to use a min 2500 watt generator.

RE: Two generator questions

Well just purchased a curt c31023 front receiver hitch for my 2011 chevy 3500 D/A for $111.00 delivered at no charge. Looks like it is a piece of cake to install. As you can see I am now totally convinced!!!! As SoCal says I got the genny and the Cargo Carrier why make something simple hard and expensive!
Thanks all!

RE: Two generator questions

SoCalDesertRider: I am leaning now in your direction. I think I am over thinking the gas thing. For one if I was really really worried I could just make sure there wasn't much gas in it when traveling. But from others I have spoke with and even myth busters it is highly unlikely that impact would cause the gas to explode in the first place. I have checked for a hitch and found a few. But I will be hauling a gas can on the back bumper of my TC. So I guess I will be living double dangerous!
The front hitch will be the perfect location out of the way and I would not even worry about sleeping with it running.
I agree totally that it is no different than hauling a scooter or dirt bike on a front hitch carrier.
Thanks for the opinions!

RE: Two generator questions

I would use that Honda 3000 on that hitch carrier rack on a front hitch on the truck. That would solve any gas smell issues, plus ensure you have enough generator capacity to run the AC. Plus, you already own both the 3000 genny and the hitch carrier rack, so may as well put them to use. Much cheaper to buy a front hitch for the truck at about $150 or so, versus buying a new 2000w Honda generator at what, about $2000 ??
I use to do just that with a different generator about 12 years ago. My only concern with that is having 2 to 3 gallons of gas in front of my front bumper. That seems dangerous, what do you think about that hazard?

RE: Two generator questions

Put it in the bed of the truxk. That's what the bed is for... To haul stuff around.
RVnRobin...you missed that this was in the TC forum. Chances are, the OP is asking where to put the EU2000 when the bed of his truck is already occupied by the TC.
Yes that is correct it would be when I was using my truck camper. I have a honda 3000 that we carry on a cargo rack on the back of our fifth wheel. But that doesnt work well with the truck camper. I really appreciate all the comments.
thanks

Two generator questions

The first is does anybody keep a honda 2000 in the cab of their truck, in the back seat area of a crew cab. While traveling. If so do they put it in a special container. Or is this just a plain crazy Idea? I am thinking probably the fuel smell would be to much but just curious.
The second question is will a honda 2000 run a 11k air conditioner.
Thanks for any and all opinions.

RE: battey charge in my 1997 lance squire 3000

What makes you think it would hurt the converter to check the voltage coming from it? Also why is it worthless to do so? More info would be appreciated.

battey charge in my 1997 lance squire 3000

I have heard that my 6300 series battery charger in my 1997 lance squire 3000 may be a battery killer. I have heard they cook the batteries. I was wondering if this is true. If it is true what have any of you with the same converter charger d0 to handle this situwation. I checked the voltage going into the battery when plugged into 120 ac and it runs between 15 and 16 volts. That's with the battery out of the camper just checking the hot line that charges the battery.
Any info on this subject would be appreciated.
Thanks

Lance camper sidewall question

I have just purchased a Lance camper. It is a 97 Squire 3000. On the driver side on the back tie down area there is some water damage. It is a little soft, the tie down bolt moves a little side to side but doesn't give in the downward direction. I plan to eventually fix this properly. For a temporary fix and to stop further water damage I would like to take some long screws perhaps 3" and run them vertically straight up the sidewall and re caulk. That way I can use it this season and fix when the camping season is over. My question is how much wood is directly above this area. Also do they run any wires in the wall itself. It doesn't appear so but I sure could use some real world advice. The last thing I want to do is run a screw through wiring in a hidden location.
One other question it appears this camper is pre wired for electric jacks. Just out of curiosity where do those pre wires run to.
Thanks for all opinions and advice!

RE: wiring my lance camper plug

narcodog:
Yes I can see where you are right they have a thirty and 40 amp fuse all ready in place on stud one and two. Makes sense to me. Then just run it under the cab.
Thanks for the input.

wiring my lance camper plug

I am going to have to run a 8 gauge wire positive and negative to my lance camper exclusive plug. I am going run off the battery to a battery disconnect then to a fuse then to the plug. I am planning to run under the truck cause i don't like messing with the trim in the truck, it makes me nervous.
I was curious how most of you do it. Do you run under the cab area of the truck or do you run under the plastic trim and drill a hole through the cab area by the bed?
thanks

RE: Battery isolator

Thanks for all the replys, this is very interesting. If all I have to worry about is killing the batteries on my truck, I will probably skip the isolator. My plug is very easy to get to and I generally run the refer on propane 24-7 so I may go the skip it route. Not sure yet. But the isolator that ctraveler 2 showed a picture of looks pretty simple that might just be worth it!

Battery isolator

I just purchased a used lance TC. I have a 2011 Chevy Duramax. I was curious, how important is a battery isolator. Also is it more difficult to install one with a deisel because of two batterys. I don't plan to use this TC alot and was thinking about not installing one. What are the dangers of not installing one?
Thanks
Dave
PS I have been having a heck of a time getting on RVNET the past few days, anybody else having the same issue?

atwood reico titan jacks interchangable?

I have just purchased a 1997 Lance squire 3000. I pull a 5th wheel but I just didn't feel complete without a truck camper! in my RV inventory.
So anyway on to my question The camper came with Reico Titan electric jacks with the wired remote. Two of the jacks were not working do to be raised to high and then the previous owner could not get them down and did some damage to a little internal drive shaft. Well I have fixed one and think I can fix the other but I was wondering
if I have a jack go bad would a atwood electric jack work as a replacement. Besides having to change the wiring to the jack plug which is probable different I would think it would work. I would imagine the wiring to the jacks must be about the same gauge? Also the remote works great so what do you all think or has anyone done this.
I ask this because Atwood seems to be a lot lower cost than the Reico Titan jacks and I have had them before on a previous camper and they seemd to work fine.
thanks

RE: storing aux fuel tank

Mine is a gravity flow tank. I can be pretty sure just about every last drop is out of the tank by turning it on it its end, it is very light when empty about 70 pounds.

RE: Green pump and green handle does not equal DIESEL fuel

Will insurance cover this for sure? Whats with our diesel fuel systems how can it be that 300 yards ruined the whole system! Not that I don't believe it, I just have a hard time rapping my head around that!
