RE: financing

Essex Credit is a broker that Good Sam's uses for their financing program. The loan I got through Essex is with Bank of America, not Bank of the West, so I think they shop around.

RE: financing new rv

In 09 I used Essex, experience wasn't bad. They sold mine to Bank of America.

RE: Onan 10000 quiet diesel oil change

It's not reverse threaded. I just changed the oil in mine about 3 weeks ago. Breaker bar maybe?

RE: Anybody towing a Dodge Ram 2500 4 x 4 with a readybrute

Readybrute specifies +/- 2 inches in their manual. You can use drop/rise hitches to help level things out. Not sure what the exact specs on your truck are but most 3/4 ton pickups are over 6500 lbs bone dry. You'll need to be careful not to overload the pickup beyond what the towbar is capable of (Readybrute is 8000 lbs).

RE: Where is the Air Filter on an Onan 7500 HDKAJ Diesel Gen?

On my 10k it is on the top left after you open the access cover. Cylindrical in shape. Mine just requires unsnapping retaining clips. After the clips are released, you just pull the air filter housing towards you and it comes off with a few wiggles.

RE: 2008 Jeep Wrangler...Question

I just pull the IOD fuse, I don't disconnect the battery (although I did install a quick disconnect on the negative terminal in case I need to). Can't answer the question about how to get power to a supplemental braking system because I use a Readybrake which doesn't need any power. Not sure if the cigarette lighters would still be hot with the IOD fuse pulled?

RE: New Class A RVr need infor on what to tow

"Get something with no restrictions on towing and does not require any modifications to tow."
Absolutely! IMO, that is the ONLY way to go! If it needs modified with a lube pump or a driveshaft disconnect, forget it!
I recommend looking at the ReadyBrute integrated towbar/braking system. Relatively inexpensive, purely mechanical, no electronic box to put in and remove, it just works and keeps working. IMO, it is the only logical way to go!
My Rubicon Unlimited tows quite nicely behind my Tioga!

Jeep is one of the manufacturers that actively caters to this segment and they do a good job, especially with the Wrangler. I second the Readybrute endorsement too.

RE: Do You use a Brake Buddy?

Just to provide a different perspective...I don't use a brake buddy at all. I use the Readybrake from NSA. It's a surge brake, a one-time installation and is a lot more cost effective than the brake-in-a-box solutions. Just another option for you to consider.

RE: Allison HD4060 Leak. *RESOLUTION*

Just did a fluid change on my 4060 and you're absolutely right, the two round covers are the filter covers. When you buy the filter kit it comes with seals and o-rings. It's probably one of those that's leaking. I usually clean the covers and surrounding area really well before installing new filters.

RE: Diesel vs. Gas/ Yes I know it has been discussed before

For the poster who said diesel cannot be justified economically, unless you're running a business, who makes the decision to RV purely on economics? RV purchases are like all other discretionary purchases: based on what you want within the bounds of what you can afford. That's why the waters are so "murky" on the gas vs diesel debate. There are pros and cons to both and different products suit different people. There's no real right or wrong on it. That's why they still sell both gas and diesel units.

RE: Allison Transynd fluid/filter change

I have my 5 gal of transynd and 2 filters....I'm wondering if it is easy enough for me to do and save $120 labor...has anyone done this working underneath and easily able to change the filters? Also, how did you handle 5 gal of old fluid??? Should I dump the $120 or do it myself??? I'd need to get a torque wrench and some sort of containers for the old fluid....what about getting the new fluid in??? Suggestions are welcomed
I just did my fluid and filter change on my HD 4060 transmission. The filters can be a little messy but are easy enough to change. Depends how much you like crawling around underneath your rig. For me it's a non-issue compared the hundreds of dollars I would have to spend on someone else to do it for me.

RE: Tag vs Non Tag

The scuffing thing is rare and like the previous poster said, often you can raise the tag so it doesn't scuff. The pros far outweigh the cons. The only other con is the expense of two extra tires, but that is also outweighed by all the pros. One of the biggest pros is the extra CCC. Most non-tags, especially 40 fters will be VERY limited on CCC. On a long cross country trip a couple of years ago we had our tag coach loaded up pretty well. Got it weighed loaded and still had 9,000 lbs of capacity left over, yup nine THOUSAND!!!

RE: Route Advice/Tips For Cross Country

I'm a bigger fan of I-70 than I-80 for cross-country travel. My cross country trips are to get me to my destination though. I don't stop along the way except to sleep/eat/refuel.

RE: Monaco dynasty. Anything i should know

Yeah that mileage ain't so high! The Dynasty is on the higher end of Monaco coaches, so you're looking at a quality unit provided it has been maintained well. You will love the tag axle and Aquahot. Looks like the toilet is new?
If you're planning on doing your own maintenance then you will also love the side radiator. If I were looking for a rig to replace mine, that one would be on the list for me! Good luck!

RE: New dinghy guide too short?

The dinghy guide lists only those new year model vehicles that can be towed 4-down without modification (like lube pumps and driveline disconnects) and that are approved for such use by the manufacturer. As models change from year to year, they may show up or disappear from the list.

RE: MH vs FW long term costs

Diesel pusher is what I was looking at.
I have been doing a lot of reading of these forums and others. A LOT of information to absorb.
My big concern with the MH is the cost of repairs.
My big concern with FW, the ones I have looked at will require a 1 ton dually. "Never" in my life did I even once have a desire to own a dually! That said it does have a 5 yr 100k power train warranty.
What size/weight FW are you looking at? I owned a FW for a couple of years before I bought my MH. Wasn't happy with the way my pickup performed towing the fifth wheel. I felt like it was on the borderline of safety even though I was within all the weight ratings etc. If I were to go back to a FW I would be looking at MDT/HDT trucks.
The annual maintenance on my rig runs around $700 a year. Most of that expense is the fact that the quantities of fluids are much greater with the large diesel & transmission. For me the added safety of big air brakes, an engine brake, and the down-the-road comfort of the MH are more than worth it for the slightly increased cost of it compared to pickup/FW combo.

RE: Aqua Hot needing service? *RESOLUTION*

I'll second what the others are saying. Replace fuel filter and nozzle, clean out burner chamber and you should be all set. The low water temperature is probably coming from the fact the burner is not burning efficiently and getting the antifreeze up to temp. Roger Berke's website is the place to go for parts and more detailed help.
