RE: Leaving home for long time

If you are comfortable working with electricity, add on or two lights with switch to a'cond/heating system blower motor. So you get random lights while away for any lenght of time.

RE: Adding an RV dump to my septic system

Did research before connecting to our septic. 1. Geo method or nothing 2. Bought "Sewer Solutions" that allows me to use 1" PVC for a more regulated dump 3. Much easier installation with 1" pipe 4. I can use it anywhere on the road - even uphill a couple of feet 5. Any guest can use it on just about any RV. 6. What I saved in sewer pipe and fittings for two RV connections (ours and guest) almost paid for Sewer Solutions!

RE: How to break the ice with our CG neighbors?

Use your pick-up. Put one foot on bumper, rest arms on side of bed and bend head down slightly looking in the bed at some beer or wine.

RE: Scan Guage and TPMS and camera mounting issues

And your not even done yet. Our dash has: netbook monitoring engine, dash cam, 7" GPS, 7" rear view camera monitor, 4" side view camera monitor, TPMS and a combo date/time/in-out temp and chassis battery voltage monitor. We never can have to much information.

Hardwired Battery Minder Plus to chassis battery and 110ac. Should never have low chassis battery again. It is charging on the road, on shore power or generator.

RE: Leaving home for long time

If leaving food in freezer put coin on top of ice in small container. If coin not on top of ice when you get home - good chance food bad.
We have water well, septic system, water softner and reverse osmosis sytem so for the really long trips we leave water on (hot water heater off) and have house sitter run water at every fixture, flush toilets and run water thru RO system for several minutes at least twice a month. Only problem we ever had was STINKY water when we left hot water heater on for three months with no water usage. Freezing temps - another plan.

RE: Atwood gas/electric water heater

Probably an aftermarket/owner installed heater. Should work just fine plugging in when needed. There is most likely a lighted on/off switch somewhere. If you have ability you can hardwire into a circuit that has about 500 watt reserve on breaker. Best to run new wire and new breaker. If you ever drain water heater you will probably find a heating element in place of the original drain plug.

RE: Dash Cams ( Crash Cameras)

Get one with video motion detection feature and you can point camera into RV to keep an eye on service techs while in shop. Also usefull in keeping an eye on stuff outside at campgrounds. AND if you should happen to record others in an accident the video may have value in proving guilt. Who knows, lawyer may even pay for it. PS if your fault, hide the camera

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

Finding right key for RV in the dark can be easy if you use a small file and notch top of key. I used one notch for passage lock and two for deadbolt. Now I can find the right key and get it rightside up with my eyes closed.

One more PM check

I didn't and am now spending $75 to replace the automatic transfer switch. Seems factory did not get one wire nut installed like it should have been and the connection failed. Inside of ATS is in really bad shape and I know problem would have been very visable in early stages. Next time you are working near ATS just pop the cover and look.

RE: How to get more closet space

One thing I learned in Navy was how to put uniforms in duffel bag without wrinkles. Roll em up! Have started doing it again to conseve hanging space. Fold and roll all casual pants and shirts for stacking or stuffing in corners. That frees up hanging space for suit, dress shirts and such.

RE: Leveling with automatic jacks

Find man. for you jack system and follow calibration instructions. I have had to do the proceedure evey time jacks worked on. Even when new it helped. Just use longest bubble level you have or can borrow. I use 4 foot carpenters level with great results.
