RE: TV Reception

When hooked to park cable ( or your own satellite) the over the air antenna booster most be turned off - the small button beside the antenna connector with a small green light. Give it a push to turn it off.
Then tune/reset and scan your TV/converter box.

RE: I just got an offer to caretake an off grid estate

Winter in the CO mountains are long and you will have a lot of snowplowing to do just so you can get groceries - depending on just where you will be. We know - we lived in Summit County for 13 winters!
Fair wage? Who knows - especially when you are getting 'free' housing.
Good luck with this and let us know if you land the deal.

RE: Cell Phone - it's decision time. 4 models to choose from

WE just 'upgraded' to the Samsung Intensity II over the weekend. So far I really like it. Verizon has a $10/month 'e-mail' plan that we added since we are off on a 3-month jaunt with limited wifi but good cell coverage.

The above web site has some great information on both topics; pets in locked vehicles, and dogs left on leash (tied up) unattended for long periods of time.

RE: Workamping in Yellowstone

Dang....don't be leaving your pet inside your S&B cause you have to go to work.
The animal police will be knocking your door down.
Funny how 'a dog' turned into 2 dogs.......
see her signature - names 2 dogs!!
Any how.....in order to really know about workcamping at Yellowstone, contact them directly so you can ask questions, requirements, conditions etc.
As you can see..asking here is like playing 'telephone'.....shortly down the line it has nothing to do with original conversation.

RE: You can't get there from here

I ran it on Mapquest with no problem. It says its a little over 3000 mi, and will take approx. 58 hrs.
Tried it on Google, and got what you got.
Oh well Just use Mapquest.
3000 miles from Whitehorse to Fairbanks?? That is why I never use either of these programs. I'll stick with my hard drive-loaded MS trips and streets. Has worked well for me since 1991 (earlier versions were "automap"

RE: firewood entering usa

Thanks. I will buy in the USA! Not worth the hassle.
Good response. I will assume you will be entering into Montana and I know they do not want AB firewood!
Also we host at a USFS cg in Idaho - just south of the border and we "try" to not allow imported firewood - unless it is local.

RE: Workamping in Yellowstone

I'm sorry - off subject - but since when is it cruelty to leave a dog by itself in a home for a work shift? If that were true, a very high percentage of people in this country would be guilty!!!!
Read more carefully - the dogs locked inside a small van-type camper for long periods = cruelty. And all it takes is a passer-by to report it. Just don't ask me how I know!

RE: pulling my fth wheel on the beach

A couple of years ago, on the Oregon Coast near Winchester Bay we were at the light house overlooking the sandy orv area and watched a guy start out across the sand with his large fiver behind his 4wd pick up. About 100 yards in he was stopped and dug in. Another 4wd truck came and tried to pull him out. No luck. The area has a D-4 'dozer standing by just for these situations., so we watched as the D-4 plus 2 4wd pickups tried in vain. It became dinner time so we left without seeing the end of the story. And now - cannot find the pictures I took.

RE: Workamping in Yellowstone

I think that your 2 dogs will be a serious impediment to working most anywhere from your camper. Just what will you do with/to them while you are away from the camper during what ever shift you get? You just can't leave them inside for all that time ( that is certified animal cruelty!) and certainly cannot leave them tied up out side for all that time - not in any cg we have ever been in!and in Yellowstone, in particular, it is illegal to leave food for the bears outside!! Yikes.

RE: LONG LIVE THE State and National Parks!

That actually sounds a LOT more like an RV park to me. I don't think I've EVER seen a campground with any limitations on who can use it. As for that particular RV park, would you really WANT to stay there?
RV Park/campground? A pure matter of semantics and many people use the terms interchangeably. Why try to start an argument?

RE: towing with gmc/chev 2500

Before my current GMC (2009) we pulled our 32 ft fiver - around 11K (true weighed)
with a 2005 Silverado 2500 HD with 6.0 gas and 4.10 rear end over 33K miles in the western mountain country. It pulled the Colorado and AZ mountain grades just fine. I think you will be OK.

RE: RV Driving Precautions in SD, WY, MT, UT, & NV?

A key point when faced with adverse wind is to NOT go "white knuckle". Keep your hands loose on the wheel.
If you lock your hands on the wheel you just cannot make the fine adjustments necessary to compensate for the push of the wind. Result - over compensation which can result in loss of control and even roll-over.
Stay loose my friends.
