Dometic Commercial Grade 15k Air Conditioner

We just waited nearly a week to have a new Dometic "Commercial Grade" 15k air conditioner delivered to our dealer from Dometic. The air conditioner order was placed April 10 by our dealer; I saw the purchase order. Yesterday (4/17)our dealer calls Dopmetic in Chattanooga (90 miles up the intgerstate)to find out where our a/c is. Turns out, the "Commercial Grade" model is made in China and none have been shipped to the US yet. I even called'em myself and got the same answer. Dometic is advertising they offer a commercial grade a/c, but none are available anywhere in the US. Go figure!!! Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)

RE: what do you do?

Back in 2003, we couldn't find the floorplan or the colors we wanted anywhere in or near the ATL area. No one carried the floorplan we thought we wanted because the model we liked and eventually ordered is so short (see sig). We actually drove to a dealer in Ohio once, to Lazy Days in Tampa twice, and to a dealer in Panama City once just to physically see our 5'er's floorplan with the colors & options we wanted in person before we ordered. There was no way we were going to throw down that sort of cash without actually seeing the fiver, the options, and the colors in person before ordering. It took a little effort but we felt it was better than making a $40k mistake. When we were satisfied we knew what we wanted, then we simply ordered our 5'er from the manufacturer through our local dealer and took delivery right here in Marietta. We spent nearly 2 years researching and looking for what turned out to be our current 5'er. We still love our choice. Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)

RE: Advice on purchasing a fifth-wheel

What concerns do I need to address towing a fifth wheel using my present truck? Far too many to list here. Unless you plan to buy at a minimum a 3/4 ton or preferably 1 ton truck, keep the truck and trailer you have. Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)

RE: Small cracks in tires

Should I not worry and get another two years out of them? Replace'em, then you can "not worry" a little less. Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)

RE: Allison Transynd fluid/filter change

I take our truck's to my diesel mechanic and I watch him change the tranny fluid and filter's, then I leave the mess behind. It's worth the cost IMHO. And I get an easy inspection view of the underside of our truck. Oops!!! I see you have a MH. IMHO: Even more reason to allow your mechanic to do the fluid and filter change. Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)

RE: 2008 carriage domani

Not that it's a deal breaker but Carriage is no longer in business. That may or may not be an issue for you. Course half the RV manufacturers that were in business 5 to 10 years ago are now folded up as well. If ya like the 5'er, have it inspected roof to axles and if it passes, offer'em wholesale and go for it. Good luck. Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!!:)

RE: Pilot Flying J RV Card

I was told by the credit department I could pay the charges by mail sent to a company in Toronto, Canada. So what's the problem? The electronic thing will work itself out in time; give'em a chance. Hope you enjoyed your winter in Texas. We back woods folks here down south used an incredible tool for over a century that still works reasonably well today! Postal Mail & a stamp. Give'er a try! Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)

RE: Generator for destination TT? Help me chose>>>

My question is do they have generators to fit your 50amp prongs:R? Yes...but none small enough to carry. You can barely get by with a 3000 watt generator and use adapters to adapt down your 50 amp plug to fit your generator. Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)

RE: gas mileage

If I trade it in for a Ram 2500 would I get better mpg. . If it's a diesel! But don't buy a diesel only for the fuel mileage. If MPG is the only complaint you have with your current truck, keep it. MPG isn't why people buy a diesel. Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)

RE: LT tires, BFG Commercial TA or Michelin XPS Rib?

I've never owned a BFG tire. I've been running Michelin RIB tires on our 5'er for many years as well as on both of our DRW 3500 trucks. I've never had a problem; not one. IMHO: If $100 (even if it were $600) is the only thing seperating BFG's from Michelin's, given the track record I've had with Michelin, I'd without hesitation buy the Michelin Rib tires. I refuse to skimp on tires for any of our trucks or 5'er. I'll do without something else less important than drive or tow any distance on anything less than Michelin RIB tires. Good luck. Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)

Angel Flight...

It's deeply sobering. The Air Force C-17 transport aircraft, call sign "Angel Flight one six", lands and taxi's up to the transient aircraft parking tarmack. There's a small gathering of folks there obviously waiting for the aircraft to park. Observed through inoculars from the control tower, is an older couple, probably mom & dad, arms around each other, standing slightly slumped towards one another almost as if they're holding each other up. They watch intently as the aircraft comes to a stop in front of them. Another senior couple, a little younger though, probably the inlaw's, standing off a little to one side seemingly a bit to themselves. There's also a couple of young teenage girls, probably the sisters of the C-17 passenger and daughter's to the older couple; each girl holding the others hand and standing very straight and still. And standing out front of everyone is a young woman, very pregnant, looking very somber, dressed in a black dress and shoes, clutching something in her hands. I can't quite make out what she's holding, presumeable something personal that at that moment is being used to draw composure and strength from. The rear cargo door of the C-17 aircraft opens. A young Air Force Loadmaster aircrew member is standing at the rear of the aircraft cargo door opening. At the obvious hand gesture invite from the Loadmaster, an Air Force Honor Guard comprised of eight full dress uniformed airmen comes to attention. In unison, the Honor Guard in a column of two, smartly marches up the aircraft's aft cargo ramp disappearing into the rear of the aircraft. Moments later, the honor guard reappears marching down the aircrafts cargo ramp carrying a U.S. flag draped coffin the short distance to a waiting hearse. The Loadmaster salute's the coffin as it exit's his aircraft, then he shakes his head slightly, wipes a tear with the sleeve of his flight suit cause he thinks no one is looking, turns and disappears back into the belly of the aircraft to get the airplane ready for departure. The young pregnant woman walks up to the honor guard carrying what I assume is her killed in action soldier husband. She lay's what can be seen through binoculars, is what appears to be a very ragged teddy bear onto the foot of the coffin. The bear probably was used for many years by the soldier as a youngster to help protect him from the scary night sounds of growing up in the dark of night. She kisses the coffin. And as quickly as the entire moment came, they're all loaded into the waiting cars and gone. Another American soldier killed in action in a foreign land has been brought home to his final resting place on another "Angel Flight". In my 38 years as an air traffic controller, I've worked a few "Angel Flight's", each one very different but always important. As I near retirement, friends have asked me if I recall any one particular event over the years that stands out. My answer is simple; it's the privilege and honor of working an "Angel Flight" that carries a fallen soldier home. I hope that some day there will no longer be a need for "Angel Flights". Hug your children tonight folks. Thank a soldier next time you see one. They've earned our respect. Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)

RE: Question...

We had our truck dyno'ed after installing all of it's electronic and mechanical mods. Where the TQ & HP curve meet, that's the sweet spot and where I try to keep the speed & RPM's when towing. Works out it's about 59 MPH in 6th gear. Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)

RE: I have a gun question

I was wondering how many other full-timers are "packin" have ever needed to actually use a gun/rifle? My wife and I never leave the house or camper without our concealed firearms; we've had CCP licenses for decades. Wallet, purse, car or truck key's, Ruger. It's never been out of the holster except for cleaning and the end of the day. Hope we never have to use it. Very, very few friends know we carry and those we don't know will never know we carry. As for the dumb idiot at the party who drew out his handgun to impress you, there's just no explaining moron stupid. I regret you were exposed to that level of total stupidity. Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)

RE: Pay at pump question

Check with your credit/debit card issuer......Our debit card through our credit union if, after 3 uses at the same location within a 15 minute time period, will lock out the card sensing fraud use. Once at Flying J as I was fueling the pump stopped at $100. I restarted the pump and pumped another $25 worth of fuel. Meanwhile, my wife was inside buying some sodas using her same credit union debit card. Next stop later in the day our debit card wouldn't work. I called our credit union and was informed of their fraud protection practice of locking the debit card after 3 uses at the same location within 15 minutes sensing fraud use. Fortunately it was a weekday. Had it been Sat afternoon or Sunday, we'd have been out of luck until the next business day. Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)
