RE: 1/2 tons and 5th wheels. Trailer Life magazine article.

This is my 5th season towing our 5th wheel with our 1/2 ton and I haven't had any issues whats so ever. Followed my buddy home yesterday from a camping trip and he just got a new diesel and I was able to keep up with him just fine and that includes towing a boat behind the the 5er.

RE: LP not working again

But the red regulator should only be for that tank not both of them. I'm beginning to think its something with the valves on the tanks. I dont know but, I do know it sucks not having any propane especially when its cool out. Alittle nippy in the camper this morning.
Do you have two propane regulators? A changeover regulator on one side and a small red regulator on the other? If so your problem might be with the small red regulator on the other side of the fifth wheel.

RE: LP not working again

I took the main hose going into the camper off the regulator and opened the valve on the tank to see if gas would come out and nothing. So I don't know if this regulator is bad too. What ate the chances of having two bad regulators?

RE: LP not working again

Maybe you could just physcially swap the two tanks. Possible the one that is selected is out of LP but the switch is not working to change-over. Just move the other LP tank to that location and see what happens. You might be out of LP in both tanks??? Maybe you can feel or see the sweat line on the tanks to see the LP level inside them.
Both tanks are full and I already tried switching the tanks around to see if that made a difference and nothing. Very frustrating when it working great. Heck we just used it 2 weeks ago and no issues at all.

LP not working again

I changed out the LP regulator/shut off valve acouple of months ago and its been working great until this weekend. Went to start the stove lastnight to boil some corn and I couldnt get it lit so I go and to check the valve indicator and its red. Tried switching over to the other tank and nothing. I've tried everything I could think of and nothing works. Anyone have any suggestions? Really getting pissed of with the LP system in this camper.

RE: Pick up truck bed covers

Access cover is by far the best cover out there. I've had 3 different covers on 3 different trucks and never had any issues with any of them.

RE: Truck Brakes

I'm wondering if the ABS idiot light should come on when it does this? I have never seen the ABS light come on in my truck so I'm wondering if thats normal?
\
I went to change the brake pads on my pickup and couldn't get the bolts out that hold the calipers onto the rotter so I brought it in to have it done. Anyways they said the brake pads were fine and didn't need to be changed but, yet its like the antilock brake on the right front brake wants to kick in sometimes. I told them about it and they checked everything and couldnt find anything wrong. Anyone ever had this same thing happen to them?
#1...never go back to that brake shop. They should have been able to
diagnose this as it is a common issue.
#2 very common on most all full sized GM trucks. The front ABS sensors
ground where the sensor mounts and is NOT corrosion protected.
Rust develops and wacky ABS. Mainly below around 35MPH it initiates ABS
and/or skids or doesn't stop 'well'
Solution is to remove the sensor and sand the bottom of the sensor (better
to replace) and sand the hub mounting surface. Then rub in alu anti-seize
on both the bottom of the sensor and hub surface
#3 2003 7.6K GVWR so GMT800 and has 4 wheel disc. They are 'caged'
meaning that the pads are NOT part of the caliper piston, but separate
with their own bolts. The bolts I 'think' you tried to loosen are
the cage to hub/knuckle.
The bolts for pad service are not that big and not that hard to remove
They would look 'like' these from my dad's Caddy

This is how it looks after the cage 'bolt' is removed (other left on
and is the hing). The pads just pop out and back in

RE: Truck Brakes

Of course had get a smartass comment like that but, I'm use to it though. By the way since when is a 26ft camper considered massive? The TT we had before this was bigger and weighed just as much. Anyways back to the topic it doesn't do it when I'm towing the camper but, instead it will do it more so just driving around normal.

RE: 5th wheel or travel trailer NEED HELP???

Having owned both a TT and now a 5th wheel all I can say is that I would never go back to a TT. IMO there are more advantages to owning a 5th wheel over a TT. If you were to ever want to tow a boat for example you could do so behind the 5th wheel. Most 5th wheels have more storage area, ride or travel much nicer, easier to hookup and I think they are easier to back into places. Being that you have a 3/4 ton pickup you will have no problems finding a 5er that will work for you. I'm pretty sure most all manufactures have lite to mid weight models. Good luck and have fun shopping

RE: Propane

I did put a new a switch over regulator in thinking that was the problem but. it still doesnt work.
Hey I just had the same thing happen. But I would also smell propane thinking it was leaking. It was all caused by the supposed purchase of bad propane. I was told by the dealer that was supposed to fix this issue. ANYWAY
Find the regulator/auto change over valve. I removed it from the storage area. Took the fittings off where either hose comes in from the tanks. There is a one way valve thing that is connected to the regulator (the hoses from the tanks connect to these fittings) that stops the flow when the auto change over valve changes so it doesn't back flow into the empty tank.
Anyway make sure you turn on the propane from the side you are fiddling with. I pushed on the rubber diaphragm with a blunt screw and when I did there was a bunch of oil, water, and black stuff that came out with the flow of propane. That particular side when I was looking into the opening. The one way valve in it didn't seemed to be seated in properly, also comparing to the other one it was off. At this point I didn't care to much if I broke it, so I took and hammer and used the blunt ended screw and hit it a couple of times and that seemed to seat the valve back into the fitting properly. From there I turned on the propane tank on the left (as that is the one that wouldn't work before). When I did the propane would now flow out no problem. So checked the right side for the same and put everything back together. This worked for 3 weekends and then I could smell propane more and more also I was loosing propane. I went through a 30lb tank in a weekend. At this point I was a little ticked off cause after all of this I just went and got a new auto change over valve and replaced the piece of******that came with the trailer and it now works great. I don't know why I have had to replace one of these on the last 2 trailer we have owned from new. I also noticed that the the indicator will now stay green even when I have the propane shut off for 2 weeks, the other one would go red as all the propane was leaking out slowly causing the indicator to go red. Then when I would turn on the propane I would have the the rush of propane and then the safety valves would go off and I would have to release pressure on the whole system and turn on the propane slowly. Long story short just go and get yourself a new auto change over regulator and be done with it. Everything is built to break down and we just through it out instead of fixing it... I hope this helps you cause I know it took a long time for me to figure this out. Even the shop I took it too didn't do it. I should have saved myself $100 and done it all myself.
Good luck.

RE: Propane

I have tried what was mentioned above about opening the valve really slow but, it doesn't work. Last summer is when it started acting up. The right tank wasn't work so I was just running off of the left tank all the time. When the left tank would run out of propane I would just switch the tanks around and we were good to go again. The last camping trip which was several weeks ago the left tank quit working too so I just figured it was the regulator so I got a new regulator thinking that would solve the problem but, didn't. So now I'm stumped as to what the problem could be. Only thing I think of is the valves on the tanks are bad. I havent tried it yet but, I'm going to try and hook up two different tanks and see what happens.
Non the less thanks everyone for the info

Propane

I've been having problems with the propane in our 5th wheel so I got a new regulator and put that in. Got it all hooked up and it still doesnt work. Only other thing I can think of is that the regulators on the tanks themselves are bad but, what are the chance that both tanks would be bad? Anyone have any suggestions of what else could be the problem?
