RE: How long does your propane tank last?

We started full time in our 32' Cameo last October. The 3 weeks we were in southern Alberta before heading south we used 30 lbs every 3 days - daytime highs 35 - 50F & overnights down to ~15F. We left Canada Nov 13 with 2 full tanks and have been in Yuma since Nov 21. Once we had FHU we have run everything we can on electric. I bake bread in the gas oven 1 or 2 times weekly. We use ceramic heaters for heat. We are still on the first tank from home. Our power bills have been under $65/month. We find it cheaper to use electricity rather than propane.

RE: 1996 Okanagan 36' fifth wheel

We have a friend who has a 1997 Okanagan 29' with one slide. It was a very nice trailer but he neglected a water leak from the back window. The most important thing is to do a thorough check for any signs of water damage. The finish on the cupboards was excellent and it has great storage inside & out. The original owners of the trailer were friends of my parents and I know they paid over $50,000 for it. If everything checks out on the 36' that you are looking at, you could get a very good trailer. Edit - Out of curiosity I did a web search & if the trailer is the one I found in BC, it looks great. You wouldn't have to worry about a possible leak around the rear window as in the trailer I described, as it doesn't have that window. Good luck with your search.

RE: Bell Satellite

We are using our Bell satellite in Yuma, Arizona. We have a better signal here than we had at home, although we can't get sat82, only sat91. We are using a tripod. It took about 20 minutes to get the signal - it's only the second time we have set up the system. There are 4 other Bell systems being used near us in the park.

RE: Anyone Purchasing Carriage's?

Friends of ours bought a 2012 37RSQ in December. They were very happy with the price ~26,000 off list. They have had no issues other than a defective latch on one of the cargo doors - the dealer ordered a new latch from the door manufacturer and it works fine. The dealer provided a 2 year warranty on the trailer. The manufacture date on this trailer was July 2011. Check the manufacture date, if you have concerns about the quality of the work. We have a 2011 31KSLS and have not had a single issue that would have been covered by warranty. We have owned the trailer since March 2011, have been full timing in it since October and have towed it over 6,000 miles. We feel this purchase was a great decision, even with the loss of the warranty. Both of these trailers were purchased from La Mesa RV in Yuma, Az.

RE: safe route

The routing I suggested will avoid Elk Park pass (6368ft- N of Butte) and Deer Lodge pass (5879ft - S of Butte). Dillon is about 1 hour NORTH of Monida on I-15. There is no way to avoid Monida, but it is fine if you drive according to road conditions. It is high and wide open - nothing like the mountain passes in BC. To the OP - I'm not sure what you want to see but if this is your first trip there is ton's of things to see once you get south of the snow. We often stay at Cedar Pocket in the Virgin River Gorge between St George and Mesquite. It has NO water or hookups but is a nice overnight spot on the trip south ($8/night. You will need to de-winterize and get water on the trip south. We usually do this in southern Utah (weather permitting) There is good water available at the Flying J in Nephi and at the Love's truck stop at Cedar City. Do not get fuel at Cove Fort - they are much more expensive than anyplace else. A nice place to start the "warm weather" part of your trip is Valley of Fire SP (between Mesquite & Las Vegas). We spend very little time in the Phoenix area so I can't recommend any parks. When we are there we stay in the Maricopa County parks - McDowell Mountain is near Scottsdale and Usery Mountain park is near Mesa. Both have water/electric and a dump station. In the Sedona area, Dead Horse Ranch SP is very nice. In that area, Tuzigoot NM, Montezuma's Castle and Montezuma's Well are worth seeing. Jerome is good for a day trip. We have also spent time in the Lake Havasu area - Cattail Cove SP is very nice. If you spend any time in the Laughlin area Oatman is worth the trip. www.usroadconditions.com is good for checking prior to starting your trip. Have a good trip. Merry Christmas.

RE: safe route

We have used the "low route" several times. It leaves I-15 at Boulder, Mt. and goes through White Hall, Silver Star and Twin Bridges (Highways 69, 55, 41). This is a good 2 lane road. You will end up in Dillon Mt. We have found that this is a good first night when coming from Calgary. When the weather is good (no ice or snow) it will take us about 9 hours with our 5th wheel. This route avoids the 2 passes on I-15 N & S of Butte. In Boulder there is the RC RV park -$20 for electric. The entrance is on the right just after the service station. If you get down the hill onto main street you have passed it. In Dillon we stay at the Comfort Inn - register at the desk and for $10 you can plug in to electricity. The Cenex service station in Dillon has good access for fuel. In Idaho the Flags West truck stop at Downie (exit 31) has RV parking with electricity - no charge if you buy fuel. Watch the weather and be prepared to spend an extra day if necessary. Be aware that you are high (5000ft +) until you get to St. George, Utah.

RE: Buying a rig

We bought a new 5th wheel in March while on vacation in Arizona. We had set up a RBC Access USA account before we went on vacation. This gives you a US bank account with a check card (debit card) and you can get a US visa credit card(avoids foreign transaction fees). I called the US RBC staff and they transferred the money from our Canadian RBC account to our US RBC account and then they did the wire transfer to pay for the new trailer. It took about 20 minutes on the phone to do all the transfers. They faxed documents to the RV park for me to sign and I had to fax them back along with a photo copy of my passport to prove ID. The whole process was very simple. The information you were given in your Canadian RBC branch was right - due to new security laws regarding money laundering you can only do an international wire transfer if you are in the country where the money originates from. The way we did it, it was considered a domestic wire transfer.

RE: Traveling With Wine Bottles in the Wine rack

we traveled for 19 years with a wine rack in the trailer. The bottles of wine were fine as long as the rack was pointed back. The only time we had a problem was once when we forgot one bottle in the rack in the fall and it froze and popped the cork out.

RE: For those w/ little ones-don't get locked out of your unit!

The wind blew our door shut once and it locked - luckily we had a set of keys in a pocket. A couple days later, I took the dog out and the door locked again but DH was inside and opened the door for me. He checked the lock but could find nothing loose. We got another set of keys cut and hid them outside. The door never locked on its own again but we were prepared. Sometimes it just happens, no kids needed.

RE: New Canadian future fulltime

You will need more than your provincial healthcare coverage for the time that you are in the USA. It will only cover a small fraction of any medical bills you could receive. While I don't know the exact amount that you would be covered for on a daily basis from OHIP, Alberta will only cover ~$100/day. That won't go far in the event of a serious illness or injury. You need to factor in the cost of travel medical insurance. Also it is highly recommended that you have extra coverage when you are in any province other than your own.

RE: bigfoot leveler question

The dealer told us that when we put our Cameo 31 KSLS in storage to lift the wheels off the ground with the leveling system and cover the tires.
