RE: MPG and weight

The highway mpg on my Tundra with the 4.6 V8 drops from 19-20 empty to 14-15 when I have the 1251 Bronco on.

RE: Palimino Pop up vs others???

In August I purchased a 2012 Palomino Bronco 1251 model, which is an eight foot camper with a wet bath designed for a 6.5 foot bed. Supposedly the new Broncos have a better design around the door. No leaks yet. If money wasn't an issue I liked the Outfitter Apex 8. But money was an issue so I went with the Palomino as I will not use it that often and no serious off road use. The out the door price for the 1251reminder with electric jacks and installed with torque lift tie downs was 12k, which was about half the cost of the Outfitter. An Outfitter I am sure is better, but is hard to beat the bang for your dollar of the Palomino.

RE: Popup owners, can you do this unpopped?

Palomino Bronco 1251---toilet yes sitting down, fridge and stove and dinette yes. No to bed and storage underneath, and no to inside shower. Easy and fast to crank all the way up if needed, but slower to crank down as the vinyl sides need to be tucked in.

RE: Is the Truck Camper the Best Boondocking RV?

I agree with Mello Mike's article and his rankings. We have owned a 32 foot class A for the last 12 years and love to take it into Forest Service boondocking spots. It is great for boondocking for all the reasons Mike mentions--large water and holding tanks, extra batteries, built in generator, room for extra solar panels etc. and the room and comfort factor. But it is often just too big to access the more isolated and out of the way spots we like--so this summer we purchased a pop up TC to go on our 4X4 truck and have found it to be a wonderful easy to use rv for camping in those more remote Forest Service dispersed camping locations. Love the maneuverability and ease of driving it compared to the class A. We camped in one place where we didn't see another person for two days. Would not have felt comfortable trying to drive the motorhome into that spot.

RE: Improved fridge cooling with fan

The 3 cu.ft. fridge(Dometic) that came with my new pickup camper has a built in fan at the top exhaust vent that is controlled by a thermostat. Must be something new as I just got the camper last month.

RE: TC boondocking in Plumas County (CA)?

Lots of spots just to the west of Antelope Lake. Also spots off of forest service road 01 between Antelope and Frenchmans. Just back from that area two days ago. We were in our motorhome. Lots of beautiful boondocking spots with almost no people.

RE: OUTFITTER APEX 8 NEW OWNER'S REPORT

Why don't TC manufacturers post a weight label on each unit they produce, like other rv manufacturers? I know some companies, like Northstar do. ShouldN't all of them do the same?
