RE: long hitch shank?

Well the most obvious reason has been mentioned. Longer shanks means less jacknives. One reason that most dont think of is "aerodynamics" Here is a test, drive your car/truck/van whatever close behind a semi and feel the instability in your car, back off a few inches and notice the improvement. Yes I know the trailer is still pretty close to notice that much difference, however with a longer bar you will likely feel a little less "push&pull effect". Finally----Fred, I do agree with you on the knee knocker bars left in the hitch. However you can not hold the longer bar responsible for that. The one responsible for that is the IRRESPONSIBLE people that dont care about anyone other than themslves by leaving it in there. It takes a few seconds to remove it when not in use. Have a heart for all--and remove the ball!!! Or at least the bar that holds it. PLEASE !!!!!

RE: Frame Bent ... HELP -- Need Advice

Well when my frame gets bent out of shape, I find lots af ADVIL works in time. I say try to find a 5er sized Advil. ---Seriously, it looks like you have plenty of good advice already. I just want to say "I'm Sorry, and Best Of Luck"

RE: Do RV Covers Work

Living where you live. I think I would invest in a fabric cover. Living in the midwest (or anywhere in rain/snow country) I probably would not. Covers do protect from the Sun, as well as rain/snow. But in the parts that sees heavy moisture, these covers also attract moisture and can retain some in between. That can cause mildew. If you make the mistake I did years ago, and leave the cover on for over a year, it made my roof rot out completely. ---In sun country though. The heat will dry out the moisture daily. I would get one for sure

RE: F150 OR TUNDRA

Well the F150 is tried and true. The ECOBOOST has been getting RAVE reviews. I would likely go with the F150. ---However, I have been to several autoshows, they usually have a Tundra cut-a-way truck at the show. I can definitely say this. The Tundra is a very well built truck. Everything (well except maybe the engine) is not just bigger, but is some cases MUCH bigger than anything from the BIG 3. I mean things like transmission, axles, spindles, frame rails, springs, bearings, (I think brakes and radiator are similar in size). In general though, the Tundras greasy stuff is very heavy built. --It would be hard for me to decide, but being a "chevy guy" usually. I probably would still choose the FORD. I think they look better than TOYOTA and I am relly digging that ECOBOOST engine. I think FORD hit the goldmine with that thing.

RE: Rt 40 across North Carolina?

not sure where you are staying in Tn. but from Nashville to Knoxville in Tn. The mountains on I-40 are not bad at all. If memory serves correctly, there is 1 or maybe 2 spots with a 5% incline. Last time I went thru there I was in my Jeep Grand Cherokee pulling a 16' flatbed with several parts for the Bird. (Trailer included-total weight was likely 2000 lbs). Trailer did not have brakes. No problems at all. You will be fine.

RE: Membership campground home park

again, having a home park can be rewarding, it can be very costly also. It all comes down to usage and dues. If you are thinking of going that route, I would call several parks. Ask them 1---How much are dues--what does that cover in the home park. 2---How does the dues get raised (I mean who determines "IF/WHEN/HOW MUCH" the dues increase. --- If the entire membership body has the vote. --- Does just the Board Of Directors get to vote. If the Board determines it, stay away!!! The dues will climb like a squirrel to the tree top after a nut farm.

RE: Calling all bumper sticker gawkers

Whats up with these sewer trucks? I saw a funny one on YET another sewer truck. It said! "Back off--I've had enough out of you" You will wake up in the middle of the night laughing at this one

RE: Would you use a weight distribution hitch with sway control?

Well lets break this down. You are asking if you NEED to use WD/SWAY hitch?? OK hear this. Lots of these transporters pull (bumper pull) trailers everyday from northern Indiana to as far away as Cali. and several do not use HD bars, and none use a sway (Well at least not a friction sway) because they are not allowed to drill holes in a brand spankin new unit. Of course some do use HD bars. Most use a 1 ton truck (be it DRW or SRW). So in a nutshell NO---NO you do not absolutely HAVE TO use HD bars or a sway bar. ---Now consider this---HD bars do make the truck/trailer connect as one unit. That makes it handle better ESPECIALLY in wind or rain. And it takes most of the push/pull effect away. SWAY control is always a good idea, as it helps keep the trailer straight in any conditions from crooked MTN roads, to wind, to semi's passing ---So YES-YES---I would certainly recommend HD/SWAY pulling just about any bumper pull from TTs, to loaded car haulers to utility/cargo trailers, even bigger boats. Good Luck, enjoy your new toy(s)

Dont camp near St Louis, Mo this Friday

Well I would warn you all to not camp anywhere close to STL this Friday night. I watched the news at noon Tuesday. More specifically the weather forecast. The website showed the same image. (Well I must give proper credit--this pic was taken from the website) anyway this weather could be deadly for many miles, maybe as far away as Georgia. scroll down for the pic. (Of course this is a typo, but I laughed roaringly) http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg815/scaled.php?server=815&filename=temperaturerange1312012.jpg&res=medium

RE: How do you take your cat camping?

I used to take my cat all the time. She is just too old to handle it now. (17 yrs old). I had her since she was about 10 weeks old. --I used to put her in her little cage and away we went. On the long trips I would let her roam the trailer to eat/drink/potty every time we would stop. While rolling she stayed in her cage in the backseat. Once in a while we would talk to her a bit. Other than that, she was an easy traveller. OH sorry---YES cats can get motion sickness. My cat did. I would not feed her too much on travel day. I did allow her to eat some though. Mine did not get sick very often, just a few times.

RE: Golf Cart in Back of MEGA Cab RAM, towing with tailgate down

I didnt do any research on your trailer, but I assume it is a bumper pull of sorts, since you will have a full bed and you can still pull. In a nutshell (if it is a bumper pull) YES YES YES. You can pull with the tailgate down, however you will likely have to have your hitch bar (ball mount) cut and rewelded with an extra long bar. Hook up now and measure the distance from the tailgate to the jack. Then remember you will still need that much distance with the gate down. And likely a few more inches to accomadate tight turns. --Remember. The longer the bar, "USUALLY" the more wiggle in the trailer while being towed. PROBABLY-the longer the bar, the weaker the setup also. Not to mention the difference in the tongue weight ratio. --YES you can do this, however I would contact Reese (or some hitch maker) and get their opinions first. You might be asking for a disaster if you do this. --not to mention the trouble that CAN come from leaving the gate down with a load in the bed. --I think you could do it, Im not sure I would recommend it though.

RE: What to do with water in the floor insulation ?

Well I dont know. Please under no circumstances am I trying to belittle you. Im certain I am asking you a dumb (or should I say "DUH") question. Please do not get upset here. However ----Are you emptying the grey/black waste tanks before you leave? Are you turning the water supply hose OFF before you leave? -I am sure you do, if you do, then I dont have a clue how water can fill the tank, or, fill the shower--while it is unattended. Only thing I can think of is, has it rained while you were gone? If so, then it must be leaking in from the roof somewhere, or at the drain pipe (at the roof). I would check out that roof.

RE: St Louis RV Show: What a bust....

Well I was dissappointed at the LOU also. I can remember the STL RV show taking up Americas Center and the Ed Jones Dome (just like the STL Auto Show does). Lately the Rv show is in just a section of Americas Center. Also this year they didnt have a single Class B (At least I didnt see one). Just a handful of smaller TTs. Yes I know the $300K MoHos are really neat, but come on. I will never win the lottery (I dont play it). I have too big of heart to "screw" people. So Im stuck in working class He11. I would much rather look inside the 20-26' TTs that run $14-$19k. I mean that is the stuff that most of us can afford and explain. They didnt even have many PUPs. They wonder why they didnt sell many RVs at the show. DUH-----Try showing RVs that the masses can buy.

RE: St. Louis Mo- ZOO

Jellystone park in Eureka next to Six Flags. Sites are small and close together, but rates are cheap, and they have activities most of the time. They also offer some sort of discounts to Six Flags (and likely the Zoo also). KOA in Eureka is nice. Rates are outrageous for what you get. Go a little farther out (about 10 more minutes) to "Pin Oak Creek" RV park. It is very nice too. Babler SP is nice, but a little ways off the beaten path back a curvy hilly road (Hwy 109) ---All 4 parks are pretty nice. I would find their websites, make a few calls, have them send you brochures. You cant go wrong with either of these. I would pick Jellystone. Having kids along, it will be the best suited park IMO.

RE: RV show in the Lou

Thanks for posting, I especially liked the 58 TT. Was the dealer trying to sell it or just using it for display? I believe it was just for display. The had a slideshow on the rebuilding of that TT. The dealer rebuilt it in house. This same dealer has another old TT and an old Chrysler up front on display. (I believe it is an '57 Chrysler 300 (Dodge). It has been a while since I have seen that car/TT).

RV show in the Lou

Well my cousin (who is the transporter) his wife, my wife, & myself all went to the RV show in St Louis. It was rather dissappointing for me. I didnt see any class "B"s, no "A"liners. Only 2 "Rpods" only 1 Airstream, only 1 TC.. If there were more of these, I sure didnt see them. It seems the majority of units were THs.------The highlight of the show (for me) was the 1958 TT that a local dealer found and restored. http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/356/1419581.jpg http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/4523/1519582.jpg http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/951/1619583.jpg http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/8744/1719584.jpg (I dont know who the person is. He kinda snuck in from the bedroom just as I snapped this shot) Basically I just took a few ramdom shots to show a variety of the units. http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/5455/26277394.jpg http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/5605/65991766.jpg http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/810/80620533.jpg http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/710/36405741.jpg http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/769/97816035.jpg now the 2 "R" Pods http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/7255/95780144.jpg http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/933/61893611.jpg now the one and only TC http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/372/18tcx.jpg I know my pics are not the greatest, the turnout was decent, not an extreme amount of people. The dealers say they have sold several though. Hopefully 2012 will be a better year "financially" for the country. Hope you enjoyed the pics.
