RE: mike thompson rv

I was anything but passive with the service department. When I went pick up my motorhome AFTER 4 weeks with a punch list three pages long, they only had about half completed even though I was assured it was ready. The service department was full of furious customers, so I wasn't the lone ranger by any stretch. Moreover my new motor home had 3 dings in the sides courtesy of Mike Thompson.

RE: A&E Door Awning Need Repair Advice

I have found that the A&E Elite door awnings are very touchy and need expert adjustments just to make them function. I had nothing but trouble with mine until it was properly adjusted. Good luck.

RE: mike thompson rv

Their prices are very competitive but their service department is the absolutely the worst I've ever experienced. I purchased our coach new at the Colton store.

RE: Best Buy sales gimick...... or not?

This is what has been recommended by several videophiles. I haven't used it yet since I just purchased my first Blue Ray DVD player. It is supposed to be easy to use.

Michelin Tire recall

I thought I would pass this NHTSA recall notice along to my fellow RV'ers. I signed up with NHTSA for recall alerts and just received this one regarding certain 22.5 Michelin tires:
NHTSA Campaign ID Number: 12T009
Synopsis:
Michelin North America, Inc. (Michelin) is recalling certain Michelin XZU3 LRJ, size 305/85R22.5, and Michelin XZU2 LRJ, size 12R22.5, tires produced between October 23, 2005, and September 3, 2011; and Michelin XM505 LRJ, size 305/85R22.5, tires produced between April 18, 2010, and May 8, 2010, and January 23, 2011, and February 12, 2011. These tires have a casing that may experience a loss of integrity and, in some cases, have rapid air loss. Rapid air loss of the tire while the vehicle is in use, could result in a vehicle crash. Michelin will provide information to customers on how to obtain replacement tires. The safety recall is expected to begin on or about April 30, 2012.
For more information for this particular recall, please go to 12T009.

RE: any problems or suggestions for towing a honda crv.

Just be sure and follow the shifting procedure prior to towing. It is in the owners manual, look in the index under "Towing behind a Motor home" Basicaly it involves starting the car in Park, shifting to R, then N, then D, then 2, then 1, then back to 2, then to D, and then back to neutral, stop right there, then let the engine run 3 minutes. Turn off the radio and the AC/Heater fan. Shut the key off to the I position which will leave the steering wheel unlocked. Good for 8 hours at speeds up to but not more than 65 MPH. Runnng a battery charge wire back from the MH to the CRV is a good idea to keep the battery charged while towing. Have towed my CRV about 40,000 miles with no problems using this procedure. Do this every day before you tow.
X2 or 3 or whatever. Excellent advice. The CR-V is a joy to tow.

RE: Chev Colorado pickup

Yes the xfer case makes a horrific "bong" sound when re-engaging. We have a CR-V now and used to have a GMC Canyon crew cab 4x4. We were not very happy with it. the A/C never worked, which I found was a common problem with the 2005 version. I ended up lemon-lawed the truck. Resale value of the CR-V is much better as well.
I hope you have better luck than me.

RE: Mount TV in Outside Compartment?

I leave it in place. Throw a handtowel over it and bungee it. I also slip a small block under the unit, to take the weight off. So far so good.
This is exactly how I mounted a Samsung 23" in the basement of my Expedition. I travel with the TV in the mounted position without any trouble.

RE: Norcold 12xx series question

I replace the burner on my Norcold 1200 LRIM. It works fantastic now. It has the recall box and I haven't had a problem. Going to a residential frig is very costly.

RE: toad turn signal not working

I just went through the same problem. I kept blowing fuses in the motor home every time I hooked up my toad to the motor home. After hours of research I finally discovered that the 6-way plug on the toad had an internal dead short. After replacing the toad plug I'm in business. Good luck.

RE: California Speedway

I drive to watch the NASCAR race in Phoenix rather than driving 40 miles to the track in Fontana. California Speedway is worst track in the circuit.

RE: Cheap Plastic Latches on Fleetwood's Storage Comp Doors

I've had my coach since 2006 and haven't broken any. When I picked up the coach new and they went over everything with me, the person said to close the door while holding it until it's down. Then I use my leg to push up against it until it latches/locks. I never slam my door closed from the up right position. It saves engineering changes. Just my $.02
I experienced the same thing. I broke two latches slamming the door until I began holding the handle open until the door is closed, then do the leg thing. It works! I haven't broken any latches for the past 6 years.

RE: iPad for use as a GPS

Tom&Dale
The new iPad is fantastic. It was supposed to be a 30 year anniversary present to both of us. So far the DW has used it mostly as an iReader. She loves it. All of her Nook books were instantly downloaded for use. She has downloaded "Overdrive" in order to download library books. I'll let you know how it works. We are very happy with the 4G. It is very fast.
mikeintn
According to the VZ rep at the Apple store, 2G per month should be more than enough for use as a GPS. Thanks in advance for everyone's help. FYI I have a very good friend who moved from CA to Nashville. He loves it there, especially the taxes.

I appreciate the link. However, I'm looking for something like a beanbag mount for the top of the dash, if that's possible.

iPad for use as a GPS

I just bought the New iPad and would like to use it as a GPS. I have two questions for the sage crowd out there: 1) What's the best map App to use as a GPS? 2) What base can I use to place the iPad on my dash while traveling?
Thanks for all the help in advance.

RE: iPAD Camp-Out???

I ordered a white 64 4g through the Apple store the day that iPads were released. I opted for pickup at our local Apple Store. I breezed in last Friday and went to the head of the line. No problem. With orientation and VZ activation it took me about 45 minutes from the time I parked my car. I think Apple over estimated the demand for the iPad. The store had 3x's the number of employees they needed.

RE: Winegard Satellite Antenna

We just installed the Winegard Mini Max on our motor home. It's the same dish as their carryout. I am impressed with the satellite. It's very easy to use and is less prone to rain fade like our outdated King Controls that came with our coach.
