RE: 5'er with a shortbed pickup

just trying to get some info before i go and spend $1500 on a sliding hitch if it is not required, that money could go towards a nicer fiver....i am well aware of weights when it comes to safe towing of a trailer, been pulling big trailers most my adult life, frankly i spent $8000 on the pickup and looking to spend 8-10000 on a camper, but yes safety is a big concern to me and those around me, so please no more heckling on the 1500hd versus everything else...lol
A wise man for getting the info ,,,, Here's some I have for ya on the 1500 HD and if ya will/should get a slider or Sidewinder.
Ran across this guy and his wife while checking in at a CG,talked to him for about 30 mins. He has a older model HD 1500 with NO slider/sidewinder,he had been towing the 5er for a few years with no problems (He did tell me that he could not turn to a complete 90 degrees BUT said that he didn't ever get in a spot where he had to .
My truck has a 6ft.4" Bed and before leaving the dealership with two different 5ers I tried to do a complete 90 degree turn with the so called modified nose on the Copper Canyon ( no go,come close ) with this being said I have never even come close in a real life situation to 90 degrees BUT for my own piece of mind I put the SideWinder on both of my 5ers with a standard reese hitch . Works and tows Great !
A lot of people doesn't realize that most HD 1500'S Have HD Brakes and also have a 8 ( Eight lug wheel ) just like a 2500.
This may help you out with your decision,a few pics of the Jayco 5er hooked to the HD 1500 and a few of my truck with the SideWinder in a 6'4" bed with the Cougar and Copper Canyon that I now have. >>>
