RE: Ford or Chevy chassis alternative to Sprinter-based RV

Hey sajohnson, Take at look at this short rear twin bed Sprinter class-A for sale right now on ebay. Click Here Thanks Ron! DW and I have looked at the Via/Reyo a couple times at the RV shows. There are definitely features that appeal to us -- like the rear twin beds that can be converted into a king. Unfortunately, it is even more expensive than the Profile/iQ. While it is nicer in some ways it is disappointing that WGO chose to use the same cheap sink & stove top, and a single-door fridge. Also, it has no dinette. That's all academic though, because if the price of a used Profile/iQ is making me pause, the price of used Via/Reyo surely would! Keep the suggestions coming! :B Hello. I've owned a 2008 Winnebago View 24H and I currently own a 2007 Winnebago Aspect 23D. I can tell you from experience that I much prefer the Aspect built on the Ford E450 w/V10. The sway on the View was just to much to handle. On level roads it was fine but if you hit a pot hole, the MH would sway. I've done several suspension upgrades and it dampened the sway somewhat, but not enough for us. I completely understand that MH's have some stability issues, but this was ridiculous. The fuel economy was good, average 13-15 loaded/unloaded. The layout was nice, which is why we kept it as long as we did. If you research the sway issue with sprinter MH's, you'll see I'm not the only one! The Winnebago Aspect was the forerunner of the View, as far as the layout and design. In fact, the layout is almost identical. The ride is stable and well mannered. Our MH measures in at 23'10". It came with air assisted suspension which I found very pleasant, especially with a coach so small. The E450 chassis was a nice addition as well since it allows almost 3300lbs of load carrying capacity. I get about 10+ mpg on the highway, which, is pretty good considering you're hauling 11-14000 lbs of vehicle on the road! My suggestion to you is to look at a preowned, 2006 or newer, Winnebago Aspect 26A. It comes with a rear corner bed, and good sized dinette. The price is very reasonable and i don't think you'll be disappointed. I know others might disagree with me, but the fit and finish of Winnebago is a lot better than some other MH's I've owned. Also, the Ford V10 is a excellent engine, 2nd I've owned and no significant problems, and yes, finding someone to work on a Ford MH is A LOT easier than finding a Sprinter mechanic! Not to mention, most sprinter based RV's come with a diesel generator. Good luck finding someone to work on that! What a pain! Anyway, hope this helps. Yes, this helps a lot, thank you -- and sorry for the delayed response. We'll put the Aspect 26A on the list. I've read a lot about the sway with the View/Navion over at the V/N Yahoo group -- particularly the older (pre-2008) models. Even the newer rigs like the one you had are getting suspension mods from owners who aren't happy with the handling (as was the case with you). The funny thing is, the opinions about this are all over the map. Some say the new Sprinter chassis is fine as-is, and that the aftermarket is just doing their normal thing -- convincing people they need parts that don't really do much good. Others say it needs Bilstien shocks, thicker sway bars, etc -- all the help it can get. There seems to be fairly universal agreement that the newer V-6 chassis handles better than the old, but there are some people that dispute that and say they handle about the same. It does seem like more people report modifying the older model though. I completely understand your dilemma. I had the same one. The sprinter based view/navion sits on a narrower chasis and it's a little taller. It's makes it a little more prone to sway. That and the soft shocks that winnebago put on it didn't do it any favors. The newer models, 10's and above are suppose to be better. With that said, it's still a very nice MH. I just prefer the Ford chassis and the convenience of maintaining it. Good luck!
