RE: Residential fridges and remote camping???

Hi, I think you got it right. I have both and I don't know of any way to get AC without an inverter. The AC one I have outside, I have ran while driving because my engine keeps the batteries charged. Even with massive "Obama" collectors on the roof, the sun only shines during the day. I think that you would have to run something or connect to the grid almost every day to keep the batteries charged enough for the inverters to work, they cut off at about 11 volts. charlie in texas

RE: Newbie with questions

HI, if you have a chevy engine it is probably safe to assume you have a p30 chassis. That chassis does have air bags inside the springs. You can look under it and see, there will have an air fill valve, like a tire valve on the bags. There is a process to add new bags, it involves streching the springs to open them up, jack up the wheel, there are instructions with the new bags, quite simply, you have to insert them between the springs and then inflate them. I think they come rolled up very tight so they will slip between the openings in the springs. removing the old ones involves cutting them into pieces and removing the pieces with needle nose pliers. I have not done this myself, friends have and they told me about the process. Hope this helps, charlie in texas

RE: Back up monitor

Hi, Hayes seems that is the way you have to trouble shoot digital electronics. First you need one true thing, find something that works some place and go from there. If you know the monitor is not working you can fix it, but why try to fix it until you know it is the problem. And with a back up monitor you only have a camera, cables and a monitor. Unless you have some switch thing in the circuit, also power is applied at different times in different applications, like putting it in reverse, etc. Anyway, long story short, it is called isolation, and everybody in digital electronics torubleshoots that way. By the way, they should be sticking equipment from their trouble shooting shelf in the circuit and not new stuff and trying to sell it to you, remember, one true thing. charlie

RE: Grey Water Soap Buildup

Okay, Robin, but I wonder how the soap got on his sensors. This is what the Mfg said. Being an electrician and plumber, I already know there is no magic way for this to happen. Just trying to help. charlie in texas

RE: Grey Water Soap Buildup

Hi, these cheap little sensors on the tanks are mostly a joke. If they have a coating on them and stay wet they will show a reading. People have used the bags of ice trick, put a few gallons of water, a couple of bags of ice and drive to slosh the ice around, seems to work okay. But they get clogged up again. You can prove this by letting the sensors dry out and you readings will probablay go to low or empty. I finally gave up on them and empty based on estimated use or when you see water backing up in the shower drain, usually the low point of the grey system. A lot of people just leave the grey valve open when parked, I have a masarater so I open and close mine based on need. charlie in texas

RE: Replacing Radiator, 1990 Southwind P37

Hi, I am not sure of the size you have, but I bought one for an acura and one for a ford f150 for about 120 dollars each, new, they also sell rebuilt ones. If a local shop rebuilds it they will put it through a pressure test to make sure it will hold pressure before they repaint it, but if they want to rob you on labor, then check out auto parts/ radiators on the net, they found me two locally and I picked them up. charlie in texas

RE: Winne-will not start

Hi, one more try, it sounds like you are not getting power to the computer. If I remember right the computer controls the voltage to the injectors, initially, it applies a voltage to operate the front one, and as the engine warms up it starts cutting/thinning the gas that the TBI squirts into the manifold, leaner and leaner until the oxygen senser stops it. So you need to reset your computer. I think you disconnect the battery for some period of time, 30 minutes comes to mind. with the ignition off reconnect it. Then try it again. this is a simple procedure that could fix the problem. Also you might check and see if there is a computer fuze. Also, the house batteries should have no function in the engine running, they are normally isolated to prevent the house from running the chassis battery down. charlie in texas

RE: Winne-will not start

HI, if you drove it home and something failed, you must be able to trace it to the source. If you can spray starter fluid down the manifold and it will run you have a fuel problem, period, no guessing, filters will usually clog slowly and you will lose power gradually. There are several ways to do this. Determine if you have fuel at the injectors, throttle body assembly, the gadget that sits on the mamifold opening. You may be able to take the fuel lime loose at the small filter near it. Turn the ignition on, the fuel pump will run for a few seconds and stop if some things does not happen, like engine start, oil pressure up etc. I suspect the fuel pump is not working or has lost the power to work. hope this helps, charlie in texas

RE: Rubber roof repair

Thanks to both you guys, Scott thanks for the pic, looks very professional, kinda what I hope mine will look like. PPL RV store in Houston has a 4 gallon bucket with a catalyst you mix with it. It sounds like a good product. I think I will go ahead and order it, I'm in El Paso, and in a few weeks the weather should be about right to apply it. charlie in texas

Rubber roof repair

Hey guys, have any of you ever painted/coated the rubber roof on your RV? Mine is geting pretty beat up from the sun. I have looked at the coating/paint stuff they sell at RV places, sound like normal paint, cleans up with water, etc. I really don't want to do the work and have it fail and crack and look worse in a year.. Any advice will be appreciated. charlie in texas

RE: Ok, lets talk tow bars

Golly, that is a pretty big order. To start with I think the ball in a tow bar setup is the weak link. So I opted for the receiver type. After receiving it, I read the instructions, blue ox said not to pin it but to put a big bolt and a self locking nut on the bolt. To prevent some one from taking it I put an extra locking nut on it. So if any one takes it they will be a while getting it off. I think the intent of blue ox was to reduce play, or stop and start movement. There are four joints that move. I leave mine on the MH, but with your setup that does not seem possible. So it seems to me that you need a receiver welded under your bike rack, a long bar that will plug into the receiver, hold the rack and allow you to put a towbar in it. I think you will need to have something fabricated to do what you want. just my two cents worth, if this does not work maybe it will give you some ideas. charlie in texas

RE: Norcold Refrigerator Won't Shut Off

Hi, yes it happened to me. The control board had a shorted relay that I replaced with a radio shack type. I finally replaced the board with a dinasaur board. they are made much better and are real easy to trouble shoot. It is the board on the outside, but the eyebrow board in the frig is what turns it off and on. On mine it was stuck on and nothing short of removing power would turn it off. charlie in texas

RE: Jacks won't retract

Hi Kirk, I guess I left some parts out, the right one goes up about 6 inches and the left goes up about 4. The retract valve is for all four and the rear ones work fine. So I guess with your input I have to think the front springs are weak, and the rear one are much larger. Thanks for you help, charlie in texas
