RE: New Truck Break in period

Thanks for all the replies. DW had to make a run out of town today and agreed to leave the Acura home and drive "the beast" as she has named my baby. It now has 433 miles on it with a few days to spare so we are good to go. I guess I never paid much attention to the number of miles she runs!!

RE: Can you bear to part with your "man toys"?

I had a neighbor who would come over and hang out in my garage and give me grief over all the money I spent on tools he thought was silly. He made the mistake of asking to borrow one once. I said no. He replied, "you loan tools to everyone in the neighborhood, you don't know most of them as well as you know me". I answered "yep, you are right and that's why I won't loan you anything-go buy it yourself and learn to keep your mouth shut". He just laughed and walked off. Never stopped him from hanging out telling me how to run my life.

RE: whats your career?

I'm in prison. But only M-F. I work for the Michigan department of corrections. You have my respect, you earn every penny you make. I don't care if you are the Warden's secretary or a guard, you have a tough career that most don't understand. I own a company that services and sells med\dental equipment for clinics in 150+ state run prisons as well as private practices.

RE: Verizon kills unlimited data plans for existing subscribers

I have 4G unlimited and with my Thunderbolt also has unlimited 4G hotspot. I will report back when and if they notify me of any changes.

RE: New Truck Break in period

Well I turned the DW loose with it today to do her running around. It came back with an additional 100 miles on it putting it at 255. I guess I found my solution, swap vehicles with her for a couple days and I'll be good to go! I don't trade that often and want it to last so I'll get the 500 on it for sure before heading out. Haven't decided about adding any steps to it, she said getting in and out with a dress was an interesting proposition but was a good sport about it. Just backing up to the trailer I can tell I am going to love the bigger mirrors. Very anxious to get out on the road with the trailer!!!!

New Truck Break in period

Just picked up the new truck, GMC Sierra 2500HD SLE. The owners manual is pretty specific about a 500 mile break in period prior to towing. We are leaving on vacation soon and I know that I won't get more than about 250 miles on it between now and then. The first 100 miles of the trip will be on state roads, fairly flat and at 55 MPH or less before we hit the interstate. I have owned several new trucks but never bought one this close to a trip. Is this a big deal or do I need to put on some mindless miles for an appropriate break in period? On edit, this is the gas 6.0. http://i.imgur.com/WOGnT.jpg?1

RE: 303 with Algae

Never had the problem with the 303 but you will never regret the Duragloss. It has to be the best product I have ever used.

RE: jelly packs

I order them from Amazon, they have them from multiple manufacturers and I can get assorted flavors in one box. We use them at home instead of the big jars. I'm picky about toast crumbs and butter globs in the jelly, so to keep myself from going crazy we switched to the little packets. Amazon is my go-to place to find something unusual. They always seem to have it and at a reasonable price.

RE: OH Amish area campground suggestions

Mohican SP is 20 miles west and is a great park. The down side is it can be tough to get reservations especially full hookups.

RE: I guess it's Bikefest weekend near here at the CG!?

We had three guys on Harley's roll in and set up next to us a couple summers ago on a Sunday eve. They were traveling light and sleeping with bedrolls on the ground. Well Sunday eve in this campground the raccoon's were in full force raiding all the dumpsters brimming from a busy weekend. On multiple occasions we were awakened by the Harley dudes screaming like girls because the raccoons joined them in their sleeping bags:) We chuckled ourselves back to sleep. Monday AM they were moving pretty slow due to the lack of sleep. I wandered over and asked if they heard those girls screaming in the middle of the night. We all had a good laugh and shared a pot of coffee.

RE: I guess it's Bikefest weekend near here at the CG!?

I always wonder just what percentage of biker folk are actually suit-n-tie the rest of the time. I am not hating, just curious. And jealous. One here, although I prefer my Honda. Any others want to stand up and be counted? I'll admit it. The group I ride with has people from all walks of life. Doesn't matter who we are or what our backgrounds are as long as they ride safe and are respectful. Some weekends there can be up to 100 riders and yes we split up so there are no more than 12 in a group and we do not interfere with traffic. We do a lot of charitable fund raising. Every other Sunday we set a destination, anti up for the cause of the week and take off.

RE: WHY??

I agree. Here you pay a licence fee on the boat, a licence fee on the trailer, a state lake improvement fee and an annual launch fee. All but the launch permit are mandatory whether or not the boat ever gets wet.

RE: Carlisle Tires

I think you will find that Carlisle makes some really cheap tires that should never be installed on a travel trailer and they make some pretty decent tires. The problem is that trailer manufacturers look for that cheap tire for the OEM applications and that gives them a bad rep with the TT crowd who will not consider investing in their better grade tire. I had Carlisle step up after a blow out on a Starcraft and admit that the tire that came from Starcraft should never had been sold on that size TT but that was what Starcraft requested. They (Carlisle)replaced all 5 with a better grade tire that were still on the trailer when I traded it many thousands of miles later.

RE: Skyline Layton question

I can't tell if it is solid or not. Since it is under the sink it may be the water heater??

RE: Mossberg says to hold off on laptop purchase

burlmart, yes you can right click, left click with a tap, scroll, pinch and rotate with a Win 7 laptop touchpad. As I said before, the biggest drawback with my Toshiba Ultrabook is keeping other people from picking it up to check it out.

RE: Purchase out-of-town truck thru local dealer - more money?

My Nephew is a GMC dealer. He says it all depends. Some dealers will do a dealer trade invoice for invoice. If it is a short supply vehicle, the dealer with the desirable vehicle will almost always want a few hundred extra to give up the "in demand" vehicle.

RE: Mossberg says to hold off on laptop purchase

But when all is said and done, it is the wave of the future. Is that wave a gesture command :)? Do the apple mac air and mac book make use of the touch pad to do pinch and other screen controls? Same question for Win 7 and the touchpad? I only have XP. I have a new Toshiba Ultra Book with Win 7 Pro and it does have the pinch & zoom touch pad controls. I was told by many that I should wait before buying my 2.5 pound Toshiba because of upcoming new and better releases but I have never looked back. Everyday I put that small bag over my shoulder it also puts a smile on my face. The only problem is keeping people from picking it up to check it out.

RE: I have been naughty.......

I like to ask them how does it feel to be a scammer preying on people for a living. They usually cuss me and hang up. I am on the no-call list and our tougher state no-call list so I figure they are fair game.

RE: did it

Congrats! I was in Michigan last week and cruised a lot with 15 yes 15 on their lot! I was shocked since around here they are about all crew cabs.
