RE: Truck Tire ply?

... but I stand by my comment: 17,000 pounds is too much for a 2500 truck! Period! Most comments seem to agree; we're just trying to mke sure he understands his truck's limitations. I would surely appreciate the advice if it were me asking the question.
Mike
Per GM's specs, which he quoted, his 2500 truck can tow 17400# (I haven't checked, but it appears he did)... are you saying the GM engineers don't know what they built? Just asking... and he did say he didn't plan on towing that much, though his truck is evidently engineered to do so.
Rear axle weight rating vs pin weight of the 5'er is another matter, which is partly determined by the tires as well.

RE: slider hitch

With a heavy fiver, I wouldn't try it; you can create a teeter-totter effect over your rear wheels, and the front of the truck may lift enough to affect steering and front tire grip.

RE: Gps systems

How big of a screen on the 1450lmt?
It's a 5" screen. Has lane assist and traffic. Works great.

RE: Tool Boxes and Fifth Wheels

I have a low profile box that sits about 1.5" above the rails. My 5th wheel sits about 8-9 inches above the truck rails, so never had an issue.

RE: mpg

What I get around town is around 13-16 in city stop and go driving depending on weight of foot :). Clearing out of the heavy city driving (L.A. general area) with longer runs between stops, I get a little higher, like 16,17+. Highway empty I get between 18 and 21 depending on my foot. Towing 12K lbs I get between 11 and 13.

RE: Gas 3.20 diesel wow

Where is gas $3.20 and diesel .60-.70 higher? Around here (central VA), the station that I usually visit has regular gas at $3.35, premium at $3.65 and diesel at $3.64. Since the OP has a supercharged gas truck that should require premium gas, he is likely paying more for gas than I am for diesel. And I'm likely getting better mileage.
And complaining about the additional expense of a diesel engine when the OP spent about the same amount for a supercharger for his gas engine? Sure, he has a little more HP but he only has half the TQ of my oil burner.
Torque and fuel efficiency is the reason you won't see diesels replaced with gas engines.
Around here in So Cal, Diesel is about the same as premium as well, sometimes even a little less depending on the station.
When I lived in Colorado, I was able to get Bio-Diesel in different percentages at certain stations... I don't know why that is not pursued further. Here in California I have yet to see any bio-diesel. It is renewable and domestic, and would probably create additional farming and processing opportunities.
There are many advantages to diesel for the right purposes. If it is not needed, then it is not needed and a gas engine is great. But for heavy towing, long lasting, hard working, long mileage, diesel definitely has the upper hand.

LOL, 15 towing is quite a feat. I only get up to 13 on a very good day (probably with a tail wind ;-) )on level roads.

RE: Gas 3.20 diesel wow

... oh yeah, let's DO talk mileage 15 and 21. What are you getting with your 4wd crew cab?
18 and 21. Towing 12K lbs from 10-13. Yea, sucks that diesel is more expensive than gas now, but the benefits still make it worth it for me.

RE: Forward lurching/jerking (high speeds)

LOL Super Dave, I read your reply, and my first thought was: he must be from California... :D
We have some of the worst concrete roads here, my truck does the dance every time I'm on them. Not to mention the huge cracks and potholes... but that's a whole other matter.
For having one of the largest economies in the world, you would think California would have some really nice major roads. The back roads in smaller towns are always well maintained with asphalt, but get on a major freeway, and it's like riding a horse with legs of different length :(

RE: Tow Vehicle

Different things go into a manufacturer determining their tow ratings... aside from hp and torque, you have frame, axle, brakes, GVWR...

RE: DirecTV Satgo

Yea, I read that one... almost a year old, and half the posters thought it was discontinued... not very informative; that's the reason for this post... to get some opinions from people who may actually have it and use it.
Thanks.

DirecTV Satgo

Did a search but found nothing recent...
Does anyone have and use DirecTV's SatGO? It looks pretty good, and it appears you can connect it to a larger TV via the component output.
I'd be interested in this if I can get some positive feedback - the price is not too bad at under $500 for the convenience of not having to carry and setup a dish and receiver.
Thanks!

RE: Blowing Fuse

+1 on the 30 amp fuse. Also, don't max out the legs either up or down, it will blow the fuse.

RE: How do you know that the dealer is as low as he can go?

I agree with walking away... I did, and a few days later, I get a call back from the manager asking what they could do to make the deal happen; I told him what I told them the first time, I wanted my original offer - which was about $3500 less than their best offer - with hitch included, and he said OK, and the deal was done.
I did something similar with my truck when I bought it (I had already secured financing and only had to write a check). After a little haggling, I told him, look, I will write you a check for this much, right now... go talk to your manager or whomever, tell him I'm willing to buy it for this price, or I walk out the door and buy it someplace else, so don't come back with another "number" or offer, come back with either a yes or a no. He left for few minutes, came back, and shook my hand.

RE: What hitch is a good match?

If you already have a Reese 5th wheel hitch on it, you can most likely use the same rails that are on the bed now and just replace the actual hitch with a higher capacity Reese non-slide hitch, something like 18k or 20k.

RE: Why doesn't my tv work?

As Mandaly Parr indicated, you need to make sure your TV is set to "Antenna" as your signal source. Then you need to do a channel scan from your TV menu (with your antenna up) at every new/different location you go to, so it can find the channels in that area.
