RE: Should I buy this F350 7.3L to replace my Suburban K2500?

Go with the long bed, you will be glad you did. I have a 2003 7.3 CC long bed, lariat. 187K miles on it. I change fluids regularly.. That old is not an issue. it will pull a hill too....and towing I get 10.5MPG. around town I am averaging 14.8MPG. I havent driven on the highway without towing in a long time,so my best guess would be around 18mpg lately. I also use the silver dieselklean every time I fuel up. Randy

RE: Myrtle Beach to Norfolk, Va travels in Oct.

KOA in New Bern, NC. Right off Rt 17 - honestly, a nice park. Not a "Resort", but a good place to stay and New Bern is a nice place to visit for an afternoon. Check out reviews in www.rvparkreviews.com X2, Larry and Pat are great host also..Watch the road in front of it, US17 is being widened right in front of the campground and several miles either way around it.

RE: Asheville, NC -- New Camping World

2 hours from RV Outlet USA in Danville, VA. It will be a pleasure to visit these dealerships in the near future to consider upgrading. I can honestly say this was the best place I could find to buy our new camper. Check them out if you can. randy as with any post this is just JMHO..

RE: Sold PUP- now proud owner of TT

Just purchased a new Coachmen Clipper 16B Travel Trailer. Really excited to have space to store my clothes, dishes, etc and just tow, park, level and roll out awning. Guess I'm getting old and lazy. Daughter excited about the bunks and I'm now glad I don't have to also worry about leaks, rain on tent ends etc. Anyone have experience with the new Coachmen TT?:) Been there, did that.. Enjoy the TT and the comforts of home. Years later you'll be where we are now.. Tent, Popup, Used TT, New TT, New 5er.., Explorer, F-150, F-250, F-350 CC diesel randy

RE: Total noob question regarding tow capacity

You should be fine rig wise. Don't be afraid of the higher rpms that you might see, as that's just the engine working and it's supposed to do that. What I find the most relaxing in driving long distance in general, but especially when towing the TT is slowing down just a little slower then the main flow of traffic and ride in the slow lane.. Anybody that is going faster will just pass, as it's hard to miss a huge white 'billboard'! Once they pass, they are on their way and you are on yours. When there is merging traffic, you gotta watch what you 'think' they are going to do and hope they stick to it! ;) Most times, they will zip ahead and want to get in front of you anyway, but you will find those that can't decide or expect you to slow down for them... All you can do then is decide to slow down or not... I also like to stretch my legs every 2-3 hours. Most times that's for a gas stop anyway, so it works out. I'll also hit a rest area when the need comes or someone else is in need.. Figure on about 50 miles for every hour on the road, no matter what your actual speed is.. On your stops, make a habit of going around your entire rig looking and feeling the tires and making sure everything is where it's supposed to be. I also try to take a peek inside the trailer, just to make sure everything is riding along as it should. That certainly is not 'everything' you need to know of course, but just some stuff off the top of my head.. Take your time and take care and have a safe trip! Mitch X2

RE: Took 8 years, but we, ok I, finally did it !

Did that last summer. Asked the wife "is it level inside", she said "yes." I did not check behind her. I unhooked, landing gear all down on boards. I go inside the trailer and it was off by at least one inch. It was noticeable to me so I redid everything.. another 30-45 minutes wasted of my vacation. NOW I check everything myself. I trust her but time on vacation is precious and I hate to waste it re-doing the trailer set up when I don't have too. I didn't said much to her for the next hour or two and she was like I am sorry I thought it was OK......... randy

RE: Towing TT with Golf Cart in back of truck

When we had the TT, I hauled the GC all the time in the bed of the truck, with our 33' TT behind. NOW I cant take the GC with us as much because I lost the use of bed when towing the 5er camper? ONE disadvantage of a 5er. If I want my GC I have to drive two vehicles :( both pulling trailers. rb

RE: Campgrounds nearby for a Nascar Race

Lowe's in Charlotte has a campground and then they have fields. Lots to do around this track. Bass Pro Shop, Concord mill mall. Every kind of restaurant you would want. The main campground is HIGH to stay at but has full hookups. the fields well you will need power, water and use potta-Johns. I have stayed only at the fields for campgrounds. I take a generator, my own water and use my pot for most everything else. I have taken my kids, my wife and we have had a good time. If you watch, you can see the camper site that are more kid friendly, pick a site nearer them. When you see the old school buses that might be a sign. Campgrounds can get REAL rowdy but they are good about midnight and quiet hour. If i were to go again I would stay at Morehead Farm family Campground behind the track on Morehead Farm road. This runs beside the track. You can walk to the track or ride shuttle buses. Easier to walk back than wait for the buses unless you cant walk back. I have pictures of Lowes, Rockingham(last race), Bristol on my webshots page randy

RE: How fast do you tow your 5'er

Always below the speed limit, but never faster than about 63 or 64 mph. I like my diesel engine sound at or less than 2K RPM. Also, it keeps the fuel consumption lower. And makes it easier to control the truck and trailer. About the same for me. I like to go around 63-65 on the highways. My engine tachs around 1900/1950RPM's at this speed. Got around 10.5mpg last trip mostly interstate miles with a few back roads mixed in. Used the cruise control most of the way, no chugging of transmission either. randy

RE: Kerr Lake (NC State Park) VOLUNTEER Hosts Needed

Sure wish I could. But having FT job would not be good, plus that travel from JC COOPER back to Graham would be a bummer each morning. If you ever get it where you could go up on Friday morning /Thursday night(I could take a few vacation days)and stay until late Sunday evening I would be glad to do that. Randy

RE: Spring Time Means Gittin er Redy

I took advantage of the great weather and performed some light maintenance on the Springdale TT. 1) Steam cleaned the carpet 2) De-winterized the plumbing and sanitized. 3) Sprayed silicone on all seals. (I did the easy beer-drinking stuff first!) I spent Saturday afternoon in the camper also. vacuumed the carpet, Found the radio antennae behind the stereo/DVD combo cabinet and unrolled it, placed it around the cabinet with duck tape so it would pick up better. Hung a few pictures with 3m pull and stick tape. Turned frig on and got it cold and loaded it with drinks. Turned the pillow top mattress around. Messed with my satellite TV and got it working in the bedroom. Still only have one box to use so what ever is on in the living room will be on in the bedroom at this time. Just getting it to work was good. Plan to take pictures soon of several winter time mods I have made and post them on my webshots pages. Just got to get it ready to roll in 2 weeks for a longggg weekend at the beach. Have fun, randy

RE: Warped Cargo Door?

Before I made a mod on my cargo door under the queen bed slide. I closed it up with the slide as it came in. Long story for another time. I took it off and reshaped it. It was held on the slide by one screw through a piece of plastic molding(on each end) that was/looked like the track it was mounted in. I removed the one screw and removed the piece of plastic and the door slid right out. A few new pop rivets and a little back bone repositioning and it looked like new. slid it back in replaced the screws and its good as new. If you have a few miles to drive to get to the dealer and he will mail/ship you the door it is a easy fix.. Just saying? randy edited to correct spelling
