RE: Propane question

a milk crate works great for transporting 20lb tanks so they stay upright. I use a 5 or 10 lb tank (depending on which one is handy or full). Much more cost effective than the disposable ones.

RE: Virginia to Plymouth MA

Not knowing you total vehicle height, and if you decide on the Garden State parkway, be careful towards the end of the Psrkway as there are several classic older stonework overpasses that are ARCHED overpasses. Thus, the two sides are of lower height than the middle.
A good rule of thumb is stay in the middle of the roadway and just follow the busses.
Other than that it's a great roadway except for about a zillion small money tolls every few miles nearer the NY City portion.

RE: Security for the RV -- Southern Style

HOW TO INSTALL A SOUTHERN HOME SECURITY SYSTEM
1. Go to Goodwill and buy a pair of size 14 -16 men's work boots.
2. Place them on your front porch, along with a copy of Guns & Ammo Magazine.
3. Put four giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazines.
4. Leave a note on your door that reads .......
Bubba,
Bertha, Duke, Slim, & I went for more ammo and beer. Be back in an hour. Don't
mess with the pit bulls. They got the mailman this morning and messed him up
bad. I don't think Killer took part, but it was hard to tell from all
the blood.
Anyway, I locked all four of 'em in the house. Better wait outside. Be right
back.
- Cooter
Excellent deterrants! All I would add would be "BLANK" claymores with the "This Side Towards The Enemy" stencil facing the roadway!

RE: Tunnels on I95

I hope you're not going to drive in Boston proper with your RV!?
I95 goes around the city, not to it or through it. there's a split-off from I95 where I93 North goes through the city itself.
I assume that you'll not be driving your RV into Boston to sightsee?!
It's bad enough for visitors with driving a car. If you have to drive "through" Boston on I93, there'll be one humungous tunnel (The Big Dig) where you'll have to jump off and take the surface artery through the city. Just follow the signs and any HAZMAT trucks also using that artery. It reconnects with I93 after about 3/4 miles.
If you want to park a rig in Boston proper, try the large open parking lots on the South Boston waterfront .. and get a 2nd mortgage to pay the fee.

Ray

RE: Slides

Had the same problem with my 5th's jerky slide .. the problem probably is that the metal gearing and cog-type of slide mechanism needs to be lubricated. Try a gallon of gear or axle grease, grab a handful at a time and apply with your hand to manipulate the heavy grease throughout the mechanism. Messy but effective.
Ray
That is an excellent way to get dirt into the mechanism (which is why most manufacturers advise not to lube them). The RV is still under warranty so it would be better to take it to the dealer. Jayco has had problems with the cheap Chinese slide motors they used and, if that is the problem, will replace them with better American made ones.
Maybe some do advise as such, but mine was jamming and slipping because the lube used at manuf. plant was too thin and wore off. I'm talking geared mechanisims. Dealer said to goop on the grease by hand and it worked great afterwards. Dirt will enter anyway since the roadway has a tendency to adhere to anything in the underbody. Can't see how a season's dirt can hurt my metallic gears and cogs, especially if gears are cleaned and lubed yearly.

RE: Audacious campsite neighbor...A first for me

I'd have popped a cool one, got out my binoculars, plopped my chair looking right at their campsite and politely declined their "offer" for me to move. I'd have told them my parole officer had picked my site and I had to stay there or get sent back to the joint to finish my sentence for felony voyuerism.
I bet I know who would have moved.
Some people have some real nerve!
On a tangent - it's not voyuerism (Peeping Tomism ) if you're 500 feet or more away from the subject(s) in many ststes.
BTW, my binocs are huge 20X80 - ;)

RE: Free Parking

Free parking for HP plates or placards on the rear view mirror in Massachusetts. Must park in any legal parking spot in the cities, like a metered spot or signed spots, can't park just anywhere.
Pushing the envelope I imagine if one parks eight hours in a spot designated for two hours.

RE: Jay and Crow

Great site, thanks!! Very informative.
Crows in my area are used to me throwing bread, etc. out into the grass for birds and squirrels to eat. When they see me the fanily of six crows squawk like crazy at me for their meal.
Today, the crow is hanging around closer to the main house and sitting at the window. seems to want to play with ny niece's small doggies.
I wonder what will happen in the future? Will it leave and fend for itself or stay?
Hope she doesn't want to play with the wild Fisher cats in that area!

RE: Jay and Crow

Thanks for the replies. Jay sits in the yard with Maxine sitting on his head...and Jay's completly bald!! :E I wonder how sharp the talons are.
By the way, how does one tell if it's a Maxine or a Max? :h
They're just guessing at this point.

Jay and Crow

Well, a bizarre occurance has occured at my neice's and nephew's place today. A very young crow showed up in their yard and started following my nephew around. They named her Maxine, guessing it's a "her".
Seems that Maxine follows my nephew all over their property and waits for him when he goes into the house or the tool shed. When he exits, Maxine fusses and follows him everywhere. Sits on his lap and gets fed. Sometimes she wants to play.
Since this crow has apparently inmprinted my nephew as her mom, what should he feed her and how to care for her until release is the question??
BTW, my nephew's name is "Jay" who's attracting a "Crow". :S
