RE: National RV Belleville, MI (formerly Milan, MI)

I have bought my lsst 2 MHs from General RV. One was in Wixom and the other in Wayland, MI. The service was great at both and that was warranty on used MHs. I would definitely go back if I ever get another MH.

RE: Winne-will not start

When you said you sprayed starter fluid in the carburetor you are probably mistaken. You should have a Throttle Body Injection system that looks a lot like a carb but isn't. Are you getting a spark? If the fuel is good then you need a spark to make it run. One way to tell if you are getting a spark is to hold the wire while cranking. If you jump more than 6' you have a good spark. You can also just lay a plug wire with a screwdriver in it, close to ground and look for a spark that way. The second choice is a lot safer. New plug wires can also make a big immprovement in performance.

RE: British Columbia tolls

Ontario has the ETR407 toll road around Toronto that operates with no toll booths also. They send you a bill later, even in the USA. There is no idea of what the toll is until you get the bill but do not try to take a MH on the road. They can stop you as often as they want and give a fine for not having a transponder. When I got my bill they only accepted Visa and Master Card. I only had Discover and AMEX. When I called they would not accept a check. After sitting on hold for many minutes the girl came back and said just forget about it. I can do better just going through on 401 in the middle of the day.

RE: GPS Frustration

When I had mine (Garmin 265WT)set to Holland State Park it wanted me to go to the alley behind the park CG where they pick up the garbage. Later while I was sitting near the beach looking out at Lake Michigan it wanted me to continue another 500 yards and turn right. I don't swim so I was not going out on Lake Michigan in the storm either. I use mine mostly for the Bluetooth on the phone for hands free.

RE: Medicare-supplement???

Am I correct in thinking that you basically have one chance to sign up for a supplement with no questions asked when you first turn 65 and that after that a company can turn you down? How does that change the nature of the decision about what level of supplemental insurance makes sense?
The reason for this is to eliminate "Adverse selection". That is when a person says I won't buy insurance until I get sick. Insurance is based on a large number of people to establish risk and this would not be possible if you were allowed to not buy insurance until you were sick. Think about if you tried to buy fire insuramce only when your house caught fire.

RE: US Health Insurance for Canadians??

You will almost be forced to get your insurance from Ontario. You need a residence here in the US and health ins. will check your medical records before insuring. You won't get anything for that price. I sell insurance and have absolutely nothing even close to that price.

RE: Bath fans for RV

You should have a Fantastic Fan brand in your RV, majority of RV fans are made by Fantastic Fan. You do not say what is wrong with yours but the Fantastic Fan company is very customer oriented and will ship you any parts that are broken. I would get the model number, serial number and call them and discuss your problem with them. Here is their web site: http://www.fantasticvent.com/
In many MHs there is a cheaplittle 6" fan stuck in the bathroom that makes a lot of noise but does very little to move air. We had a rally set up where they replaced 13 of the fans with Fantastic Fans and most of them went in the bathroom. On low speed so much air is pulled out that it will suck the bathroom door shut. On Medium it really pulls air. On high it will suck you off the seat. All this with less noise than the little crappy one that came with the unit. Those cheapies are not Fantastic products. That has been the case on my last 3 MHs.

RE: Possible trade - Class A for an C and questions...

I think y ou weill find that many of us here started in a Class C and moved up t o an A. The first thing you will notice is that thee is sky above the road ahead. I could not go back to the restricted view of a C now. There are times when I would like the extra sun shad but most times Ilike the view. Most A's are widebody coaches as well as most C's today. You do sit a little higher in an A and I like that. We have had 2 of each and I don'twant to go back to anything smaller.

RE: Concerning Wheel Chair Lift

I have only seen 1 wheelchair lift on a MH so I know nothing there but I think you will have a problem with a minivan behind your gasser. I wanted to tow my Chrysler T&C and it was over 5000# empty. That is the reason I have a much smaller Vue. I think your gasser will have a lower towing limit also. Check that out first.

RE: Class A RV towing a vehicle

Most MHs are able to tow a car behind. Tow limits for gas MHs will run from 3500-5000#. If you need a dolly you have to add this weight to the tow weight. DPs can have tow limits that are 10,000 and up on some. I chose my Saturn because of it's weight and towability. I had a Chrysler T&C that I loved but it was not towable after we sold my DWs car. Towing 4 down is quick and easy to hitch and unhitch. A brake system is a very big asset on the toad. I went without brakes for a few years but after getting the brake system I will never be without it.

RE: How close are you to your max GVWR and/or CCC?

A tag axle isn't there for the ride but for the extra load. On a Van Hool everyone went fully loaded in their luggage compartment. The ride was great empty or full but the handling was much better fully loaded.

RE: mouse coming in through roof ac

check the gasket on the bottom of the unit, did they eat through it and come in that way? I am surprised they can get on the roof. do you have it parked in a shed and they fall from the roof?
I was amazed at what mice can climb. When I was having my MH washed at the local truck stop they were also washing out a trailer that had hauled raw carrots in bulk. I never saw so many mice in my life. When they ran out they went up the side of a 25' cement block wall to the roof of the place. To them the cement block was jsut as fast as aa level road.

RE: How close are you to your max GVWR and/or CCC?

I think the ones seeking the smoother ride are the ones with gas chassis and spring suspensions. Don't you have air bag suspension? If that is a problem have you had it checked for proper pressure and any leaks. Roads are not good in a great portion of this county. You can't make a rough road ride like it isn't there.
Mine is a Workhorse chassis and I am not overloaded. I have next to nothing in the storage compartments. We just kept taking out what wasn't needed and got to this point. I have driven Van Hool tour buses and mine doesn't ride like that but it sure isn't something I am constantly complaining about. I like it.

RE: health insurance?

Does anyone traveling not retired or on medicare etc. buy heath insurance that really works, reasonable costs and works traveling all states. I have looked into some plans and the cost is high and generally only good in the state you reside in and not good for traveling. Any experience or suggestions? Thank you
When you compare costs of hospital care and medical treatment you cam leave the word "reasonable" out of the question. I was in last March for prostate removal and it was about $35K, a couple years ago for a spinal fusion was $140K. Those are the kind that can take your savings or even bankrupt you. When my DW had breast cancer 11 years ago it was well over $100K for chemo and radiation. She is still here though. Major Medical would have covered all of these expenses. If we could eliminate or cut down the number of frivolous legal cases we could probably cut all of the expenses in half. We feed the lawyers with our medical payments. If you want high insurance costs check out what your Dr. pays for his insurance. In MI our Blue Cross can not use medical questions for insurance becase of their tax status. They can put long elimination periods in though. If you are full time you may be able to save a lot on premiiums by picking a low cost area as your home base. In our case the costs in W. Mich. are considerably less than the Detroit side of the State.

truepath, I have never heard of that. Maybe someone else can elaborate on this???
Insurance companies are rated by AM Best, S&P, Moodys, etc. If you go with one rated A or better you should be safe.

RE: Replacement for Onan/Generac gensets

There is a big difference between RV use and designed to operate in a compartment on an RV. The cooling is designed for compartment installation on the Onan and Generac.. The less expensive ones usualy are designed to sit outside for their cooling. I have seen a redneck version where a fellow had mounted a contractor generator on the rear of his MH and ran the cord around to plug it in while he was driving down the road. He could run the AC that way. I like my Generac much better thann my previous Onan. It is quieter and uses less fuel.
