RE: crossing border to canada

Make sure all the ingredients are listed and check on the latest bulletins. The last few years I have crossed, lamb has been the issue and that is what the customs people said was the only issue over the last few years but who knows as sometimes these bans change quick.

RE: crossing border to canada

I have no idea why on the lamb but as long as your food is made in the USA it is no problem. We always check the labels or buy it when we are south. The customs guys always read the labels when thwy check pet food and that is what they are checking for. One of the customs officers told me people miss that one a lot of the time. Everyone is aware of fruits and veggies but get caught on pet food.

RE: crossing border to canada

Yes as most have said make sure you have your passport to get back to the U.S. and watch the fruits and veggies. The one thing to also watch is your petfood. There are things in there the U.S.customs checks for like lamb which is not allowed and they have been known to look for that. Coming in to Canada that has never been a problem but have been checked several times heading south and seen some in the garbage bin they have confiscated.

RE: Frontier rv

If it is the KZ model above I still have a copy of the brochure for it in PDF form that I could send with all the info about the trailer if you wish. Just pm me an email address and I can send it to you. We have the 2005 in our sig and love it. We have the Canadian version that they called it the Outdoorsmen. I have the brochure for both.

RE: fiver frames

You should go to the Lippert website and see all the companies that are part of them. One of the companies under them even build trailer mattresses. Not just frames, jacks etc.

RE: Let's talk Mattress's

Being in the business it always amazes me as to how the mattress question comes up all the time. Why shouldn't you sleep on your weekends and vacations so you can be well rested on return. Buy a decent quality mattress for your trailer and it will last as long as your trailer. Most can accomodate the 80 inch length if you have room or just be careful sitting on the end of the bed if it is not designed for an 80. When I bought my trailer being able to put in an 80 inch mattress was mandatory. We also order in the RV length for Simmons Beautyrest in certain models so you can get a shorty in that size in a decent mattress as well. Sleep numbers work well for Rv's but very expensive. Lots of foam/memory foam out there as well. Remember good memory foam is not cheap so make sure you spend some money or you may end up getting what you pay for in the long run. Lots of newer gel/foam technology out there right now as well. Lots of options depending on budget and comfort. Look around and make sure you ask when going to a retailer as you may be surprised what you run into to for RV's.

RE: V-Nose less drag?

Talking to an engineer that makes some of the cars that are built for wind and air resistance told me that trailers especially the Vnose are built backwards. The v nose would have better resistance etc. if it were at the back of the unit not the front. If you look at all these special high tech wind cars you always see the V at the back of the car not the front. Consequently it does not have that big of an advantage and won't save a lot for you. Not my own opinion but just what I picked up along the way. I was considering one as well and like them for the extra room at the front but not for the wind and mileage difference.

RE: Browning to St. Mary

Do it pretty regular and we do it both ways depending on my day. Duck lake road is pretty straight forward and goes pretty easy. Taking the winding route is not too bad but you will have to keep your eyes on the road. I have driven many worse than that so not to worry unless you are a rookie. heck many years ago I took my motorhome through logans pass when they allowed it. That road is a piece of cake comparing to it.

RE: leveling with 1" X 8" boards

Started with the board concept and as suggested one cracked so I made some out of 3/4 plywood. Have not had a challenge in the mud since. Works good and you don't need them too long. i made mine just a little longer than 2 blocks which does a wheel just fine and stores easily. Make a couple then you will never have to worry.

RE: New Fiver has ARRIVED....finally

The dealer he is getting it from is a good one and does a good PDI. When we bought ours there we took the whole afternoon to do ours and didn't leave until the bugs were fixed. There wasn't many but we still came across a few things that would have been a pain in the butt to haul it back there to be fixed. They had everything hooked up and ran it pretty much as we would being out camping with running water, fridge, stove, lights, air and everthing going full tilt. Trailer has never been back for any repairs since and it has been 5 1/2 years for us now. Have some friends that have bought there recently and tell me things are still the same.

RE: 1999 F150 4.6L 4x4

I have a 98 4.6l version F150 with around 200K KM on it. Bought it new back then and used it for the first number of years to tow my 6k loaded trailer. Did an adequate job too until I bought my 2500HD. Now I use the f150 for going to work everday use truck and the 2500 for camping, fishing etc. Only thing I have done so far is change the spark plugs a year or 2 ago. Other than that it has been a great vehicle and still purrs like a kitten. No plans for another any time soon.

Congrats on the new unit. Hopefully they do as good of a PDI as when I got my KZ from there. It will feel like a long ride to Balzac I am sure.

RE: Thoughts on Champion 1000 Watt Inverter Generator

Just a reminder that the 1000w Champ is a rebadged Kipor. I considered it before as well for a small genny as I don't use the 4K all the time and decided on the 2000w instead. It is only a couple of pounds diffeerence and gives a little more flexibility to what I can run if I need to.

RE: Recyling 1 lb. propane tanks?

I bought one of those filler adapters and they work quite well. We use the 1 lb in my Big Buddy heater in my ice tent in the winter and when the ice isn't thick enough to drive on the less weight to haul on our sled is great. I have about 10 or so and do them in bunches to make it easier. I have a small scale so I watch the weights and yes it goes fairly slow and in saying that most don't get filled right up anyway. Most end in in the 3/4 full range which is fine. Just wear a pair of heavy gloves and eye protection in case of getting sprayed when you take off the small container and it works pretty slick.

RE: Boliy Generator: 3600SEI..good/ no good.?

You may want to do a little research as well as I believe there is a guy that sells Boily's based out of Edmonton. I am not sure of pricing but may be closer and I heard he carries a good selection of parts and services as well. Search the tech forumns as I have seen him post help for people that have purchased Boilys before.

RE: Dutchman Infinity

We sat in it at the local show as well a while back. Pretty sweet unit and the bedroom is real nice that is not pictured as well. To top it off the only tweak we saw was it would be nice to have an extra slide where the recliners are. As big and open etc that it is the living room area is narrower than many living rooms. Especially the rear living with opposing slides. Add those to this living room and double wow. I need to buy a new truck first as it is a heavy beast and will probably need a set of duallies from what I recall.

RE: Towing beasts we have

I guess my real point on the above setup is not just what this particular unit does but how small of engine size they are using to haul that kind of weight. Maybe those 5l Ecoboost dreamers or the smaller diesels that never quite made it to production would fill that gap somewhere between that Winnie and the beasts we are using today and get that GWCR i that 20k+ range instead of under and allow towing of bigger trailers without being real under powered when we are not towing a 15k beast.

RE: New towing mirrors

I bought the Kool Vue ones for my 2001 a few years back and they have been real good and are almost like the real thing. They can come power, heated etc. depending what options you have. Check online for best pricing as I remember from when I got mine there was quite a bit of difference from one dealer to another.
