RE: how old is to old

Our 96 is old enough to drive on its own now (16) says Jan. It looks good and is in good shape. The most costly repair was finding the problem when the coolant temperature sensor was bad. I paid a lot of money for the machinac to search, hunt and try parts. It is free of debt. I don't think it is wise for me to trade it just to have a slide or two and a modern look just yet.

RE: Transmission

I don't know any thing about the Ford chassis. But, I had serious problems with park on my Po-30 chevy chassis. "Old Used Bear" helped my tremendously. I think if you type Old Used Bear in the search box of this forum, you will find him. Good Luck

RE: 1996 chevrolet P chassis vortec OBDII

I was really in trouble until "old used bear" came to my rescue. Our time is 3 hours different. But, he worked that out to assist me. He is in on the west coast in Oregon and I am in Tallahassee, FL. Some animal, I think a rat severed 13 wires associated with the auto park. I soldered on new leads in that the RAT even took some of the wires with them. Then I reconnected temporarily using wire nuts. It was hard to tell the exact color of wire going to the switches because they were severed so close to the plugs. The auto park refused to work. I tried switching wires to no avail. Roger or Old Used Bear, came to my rescue and stayed on the phone for 2 hours or more walking me through step by step while I lay on my back fumbling wires and Jan sat in the driver's seat switching the ignition and moving the selector lever. He's a patient man. While we were checking for power to the right place at the right time, he mentioned the use of the cam switch and told me where it is located. I had to end the days auto park work to get out from underneath the motor home and straighten my neck. So, after saying good bye to Roger for the day, just had to view the cam switch. With a flashlight I found a hole and located it. Reaching straight up through an opening or hole my elbow would not go through, I found both wires at the cam switch were also severed. The following day I removed the metal panel from between the engine and the left front wheel and reconnected the two wires. Underneath the motor home I went. After connecting the wires like we had already tried, the auto park worked perfectly. I can't thank Roger enough. He so freely gave his time and knowledge and increased my education to pull my out of a rally bad situation.

RE: Florida county rv parks

Pat Thomas located in Gadsden county south of Quincy, FL is on Lake Talquin. It is a nice enough park. Coe Landing & Williams Landing in Leon County,FL west of Tallahassee both have rv camping. They to are on Lake Talquin. You probably can find more on the internet by searching by counties.

RE: New tire suggestions

Good testimony J-Rooster. I am running Michelin on one suv, one Silverado and the motor home. The right inside rear on the motor home seems to get excessive weight. Thus, I keep having them blow. I decided, tho probably wrong, the sidewalls are thinner and softer for a smother ride and maybe I am hitting curbs sometimes when I don't realize it and breaking the side walls. I replaced the last blown one with a Goodyear and bought another to match. Those are on the front. I plan to replace the rear 4 with Goodyear later.

RE: We are going full time and just getting started

You might check out pplmotorhomes.com. They have a lot of used trailers and motor homes for sale on consignment. You can see pictures, prices and most information you will want to know. You can click on the a few pictures of the exterior and different angles of the interior. It will give you a real look at the layout and help you decide what you want. I have seen some very good looking deals.

RE: Furnace not firing up...?

I think you will have to replace the therma-coupling if it has been igniting fine recently. They go bad without giving notice. My furnace would not ignite and all I had to do was take the burner apart and clean it. Actually, I removed the furnace (very easy job) and had a real rv repair man take it apart and clean it at his shop.

RE: Can you repair a crack in a black water tank?

Yea, I'm glad you were successful. Sounds like it wasn't too difficult.

RE: Can you repair a crack in a black water tank?

Just make sure Bill, that you run very low air through the welder and watch very closely. I used 3/8" supply line for the extension. It had to be forced onto the welder tip which gave it a good tight fit. It's easier too after you get past the nervous part. ha ha

RE: Can you repair a crack in a black water tank?

Thanks Bill/Diana, I purchased my plastic welder from Harbor Freight also. Mine requires air. The reason I bought this one is, I thought it would better getting to the hard to reach and see area. I still had to add an extension which I made from copper. I bent the extension to better reach the area. I discovered soon on that it is easy to plow a hole. That's what convinced me to add the extension.

RE: Can you repair a crack in a black water tank?

I have finished welding the tank. But, I don't know how to post the picture. It doesn't leak. So if it holds, and I think it will, the repair cost wasn't too bad. The plastic welder cost $59.99 less 5.00 discount plus tax and one bag of assorted welding rods for $4.99 plus tax. Thanks to everyone for all the helpful tips and all information.

RE: Can you repair a crack in a black water tank?

Okay, I'll let you know. I kinda dread the job. Because the split is in the hard to see area. I have placed a mirror to help. But, I'm not too good working backward. To find the leaking area, I removed both valves, installed a 3" cap over the black tank outlet, ran about 3-5 gallons of water into the black tank with a garden hose (for speed). The leaking area was easy to detect then.

RE: Most desirable roof?

My 1996 Winnebago motorhome has a fiberglass roof and I have never done anything except wash it. So far it has been pretty much maintenance free. Once, I had it repaired when a pine tree limb stuck through into (above) the bathtub.

RE: Can you repair a crack in a black water tank?

I really appreciate the comments from everyone. You all are so helpful with needed information. I have purchased the plastic welder. It has three or four different rods for different plastic. I hope to try welding it today. The weld where the outlet was welded in is cracked for about 1-1 1/2".

Larry, thanks man. You are absolutely right. I apologize. I thought I had specified white. I was wrong. I'll try to be more careful.

RE: Can you repair a crack in a black water tank?

Thanks smketter, Since my tank is white as I mentioned, I'm assuming it is polyethylene. I plan to see if Harbor Freight has a plastic welder. It's inconvenient to be on vacation with a leaking tank. It is now dripping into a small trashcan with odor control. I'll keep emptying it until I get back home. Then hopefully I can repair it.

RE: Can you repair a crack in a black water tank?

Can someone tell be what type plastic my original black water holding tank is made of. It is on a 1996 Winnebago Adventurer. It has just developed a leak at the outlet(I think). I want to purchase the proper repair material.

RE: Throttle Body Problems

I know I posted that my motorhome was Purring again January 30,2o11. But it still lacked hill power. We vacationed near Franklin, NC last October in a cabin and didn't enjoy it as much as we enjoy the motorhome. We wanted to use the coach this October so I changed the spark plugs again using AC Delco. I replaced the plug wires with the 7 millimeter ones listed as original equipment. I learned after installing them that these wires were not adequate. I then changed them out for 8 millimeter AC delco wires. Of course, I changed out the distributor cap and rotor button. I'm glad to report this motorhome performed perfectly coming from Tallahassee to The Great Outdoors RV Resort at Franklin Friday. I expect it to keep running great. We are getting very good gas mileage also. We had one Michelin tire to blow out the sidewall Thursday night coming up, but, no other problems.
