RE: Uncovering 'The Beast' today

When I remove the cover from my 30 ft 5er I get up on the roof, pulling the back up with me as I climb the ladder. Once on the roof I pull the front and sides up, fold them into the middle then roll it up from the front to the back. I but a tie down strap around the center of the rolled up cover, attach the hook from another tie down and lower it to the ground. If there is no wind it takes about 15-20 minutes to do.

RE: Decent stereo

If you have an i-pod then I would suggest a Bose Portable Sound Dock The sound is amazing and you can bring it anywhere you go. If you dry camp a lot I would get an extra battery pack.

RE: Slide Out Toppers

Do you use the Airwedge bogart661? I have thought of trying them since I have two long slides. I have never communicated with anyone that has actually used one. No I do not use the Airwedge, just thought the OP might be interested. I have not had any problems with my slide toppers, if we get a heavy rain and some accumulates I just close the slide then reopen. Only once in 11 years have I had to close the slides due to wind, it was night and the wind had gusts up to 60mph...so we closed up and went to sleep.

RE: Storable BBQ??

We have been using one of these for almost 10 years. It cooks great is easy to clean, has the warming rack and also has a zippered vinyl carry bag to store it in.

RE: Crossroads Cruiser CF30QB tire question

I do not have the same 5er as you but I made the change from 15's to 16's in August 2010. My 5er is 30' and has an 11000 lbs GVWR and 5200 lbs axles. I went from ST225/75R 15 to LT225/75R 16 BFG Commercial T/A's. I had no problem with the spacing between the tires, but ended up with a little less than 2" clearance in the wheel well. I had 2" lift blocks add to the axles to solve the clearance problem. The diameter of the LT tires I went with is 1" larger than the old ST tires.

RE: 50 Amp shore power blows breakers

Make sure your water heater is not set in electric mode. I left mine in electric mode and had the same problem you are having....

RE: Tire Monitoring System

We've had the TireMinder 400C system for just over a year. The system is very easy to program and to use. We had a problem with the 12v charging adapter and they sent a new one right away. We bought ours in October 2010, when I called about the 12v charging adapter the tech told me about a new program they started in January. When you return their new warranty card(we did not get one in Oct) they register you for free replacement batteries once a year for 7 years(you do need to return your old batteries). They sent us a warranty card so we are now on the 7 year battery replacement program. Great customer service and so far a great system.

RE: Looking for help with weights

The other problem I see with the 1500 crew cab is the short bed, it's only 5'9". This could make backing and taking sharp turns a real problem.

RE: Tow Vehicle tires

I am on my second set of Michelin LTX M/S on my 2001 Silverado 2500HD. They are great tires, they run forever, I have never had a flat or any problems with them.

RE: Tire clearance

For some reason the link does not show the info I input, so you can fill in the chart and it will show you the difference between the 2 sizes

RE: Tire clearance

I think you may have a problem with the space between the tires as well as the distance to the top of your wheel wells. You also need to consider the width of the new tires and make sure they will not rub on the trailer suspension. Last year I changed my ST225/75 15's to LT225/75 16's and I had to rise the trailer 2" to have enough clearance in the wheel wells. Here's a link that compares your tire sizes. Tire Size

RE: Truck Tire Pressure

Solo I keep 50 up front and 65 in the rear, towing I keep 50 up front and 75 in the rear. I get a smoother ride at 75 than at 80, based on my loaded rear axle weight of 5160, the tire load charts say I could go with 65.

RE: Tire Load range

I also switched to 16" rims and put BFG Commercial T/A's LT225/75, they have been great!
