RE: So far, so good--our ERA!

Ron, if you do some rallies like we do, especially out in the boonies, that big fridge comes in handy. Also we like to pre cook menu options and either freeze them for use later, or as in the case of my wife's breakfast burritos, have them ready at a moments notice on the road.
Also we're kinda just the opposite as you guys on the openness factor. We like the bedroom to be in a "separate" space, and have the option of 2 TV's, as we don't always watch the same things or hit the sack at the same time. Many times, hours apart. That's just us.
As you say, a series of tradeoffs

RE: So far, so good--our ERA!

There's a small mattress that lays in between the small couch and the base that folds down from the sink/stove cabinet. It stores in a cubby between the bathroom and fridge I believe.
Good pics David....

RE: So far, so good--our ERA!

Guys, my personal opinion here is that the ERA is going to eventually become the top B-van seller in the USA. If nothing else because of the price, number of dealers, and ease of factory servicing if needed.
Be interesting to see pics and hear of mods done to these units over time
They have the name brand, American, dealer network, marketing clout and Sprinter (believe it or not the hottest seling B among all manufacturers now). I don't doubt they will be the number one seller. Winnebago is already saying it. Their MSRP is not 20K cheaper than comparable models from what I saw just last week. They have done some slick marketing there. There is just no way they can be that less expensive unless they are dumping like the Chinese.
The model that mimics the Roadtrek RS Adventurous with the too narrow bathroom, too narrow aisle, microwave below the counter, refrigerator on the floor and windows oriented to the adjacent neighbors campsite is a model I would never buy. They also have one of the worst electric sofa under seat mechanisms of all the Sprinters. Sorry if I step on any toes with that opinion. Their new model with a fixed bed in the back and bathroom, huge refrigerator on the driver side and kitchen counter and window facing the campsite is much nicer. It should be their top seller.
Agree with you David on the model choices. That sofa mechanism compared to yours just doesn't make it. The wife mentioned the placement of the fridge and microwave in the X floorplan also.
As to their prices, they are selling right at 80k or slightly less with very little negotiating, if you know which dealer(s) to go to. It's kinda one of those deals where the "list" price is just something to put on the sticker, not a true indicator. And slick marketing is involved too.
That refrigerator on the new A floorplan is huge isn't it. Restaurant style!

RE: So far, so good--our ERA!

I've heard from not just the OP on how good the ERA is, but from other members here as well. Just the price difference (without any perceived loss in quality) makes it stand out from the competition.
2013 also brings another floor plan -- two twin beds that can merge together, although this means a smaller bath/shower area.
Have you actually seen one in person? Is it smaller in the 170A?

Have any of you guys that have or are considering the ERA, seen the new 2013 170A twin bed floorplan?
You can see a video and pics at Lichtsinn.com. The dealer just down the road from the Winnie plant

RE: Converter replacement, generator compartment , and refer

Have heard mucho good reports about the Progressive PD4645 from all our Winnebago class c groupies.
At least all that have replaced theirs with the PD model are very satisfied. Alot of the reason being that the PD won't fry your coach battery(s) like the factory converters usually do.
It's on my list as the next improvement

RE: Ford Transit van as a class B platform?

The word here in Kansas City at the Ford assembly plant that will make the Transit is that the E-Series vans will phase out sometime in the 2014 year.
The chassis cab will stay in production longer for a time to be determined later.
The Transit WILL have a version of the EcoBoost V6 as the top gasoline engine option. A diesel option has not been officially announced "yet". But you all know as well as I do that it'll happen.
The folks at the assembly plant here are very excited about the coming Transit van. They expect a huge success.
And NewsW, the reason Ford discontinued the Crown Vic police car was that it can't meet future crash standards, barely does now, hit them in the rear and they burst into flame, one just did a couple weeks ago here in KS. (again), without a massive, expensive redesign. Not worth it for a 60k yearly FLEET sales number. The car companies, none of them, foreign or domestic, make any money on fleet sales.

RE: Roadtrek Mercedes oil recommendation

I buy the Valvoline Synpower 5w-40 that's listed from Amazon. Got on their "auto" delivery list at 1 six pack case every 6 months. It saves $6.00 per six pack case in price. Makes the six pack cost $33.99, which isn't bad with available free shipping. And you know it hasn't sat on a shelf for any length of time.
Amazon is a good source for Sprinter filters too. All except the cabin air last time I checked.

RE: Class B Profit Margin

Well Juliev who is in the car sales business, and owns a B, up at the top said about 30%.
Based on what I've seen in our owning and trading RV's, I can believe that easily.

RE: Class B Profit Margin

I can also agree with Ron on this. As far as the ERA quality? The ERA now uses the same cabinetry, hardware etc. as Winnebago's class C units.
I can say that the cabinetry in our current (Winnebago) Itasca Navion meets or exceeds the quality of the cabinetry in the Pleasureway Lexor we had.
As far as the plumbing, water tanks etc. The Winnebago product excels there, no question about that.
Otherwise, the rest of the unit's equiptment, is generic, just like used in every other comparably priced brand.

RE: Interest rates for Under a 100,000.00 Loan .

Check out Alliant Credit Union. Just got a 1.94% 72 month car loan, and was quoted 5.49% for an RV loan.
