RE: Where Do You Put Your Honda Generator?

I never owned an rv with a built in gen. I really never measured anyone's exhaust distance to a door. The few that i have seen have been located away from doors and the windows close to them have been solid sealed windows that do not open. Carbon Monoxide is lighter than air therefore it will have a tendancy to move upward. That's how it kills people in upstairs bedrooms in homes when a car is running in a lower level garage. However out of doors wind can move it in any direction. I was speaking to a MH rep at a dealership about RV tech stuff . During that conversation he stated on board gens. need to be installed and operated under codes like RVIA, NFPA. Away from a window that opens and gas tank fill locations. I was able to find : ANSI 119.2 / NFPA 501c NFPA 1192 . I would be concerned about making a modification involving something like a generator where it carries fuel a HAZ-MAT issue , grounding specs for electrical codes, fireproofing barriers between the working gen. and the rv and exhaust codes. Anytime there is a fatality like carbon monoxide death, there is a homicide investigation lead by a D.A. who is looking for any kind of broken law, code or rule so he can hang the person who caused the death of another. Personally, i do not want to be in that position. I don't modify things , i let the mfg. accept responsibility to be liable. I like the carrying method and the mount to carry it , a good job was done constructing it . After seeing your mounting rack, i sometimes transport my gen. on a rack too. I would not feel comfortable operating at that location because it is a modification that has strict codes to follow and its too involved for me . I do not know much about electricity and lightning. I would not know how to ground the gen. using it like that. Faraday cage and lightning. RVIA codes are listed on this site. http://www.cumminsonan.com/www/pdf/rv/f-832.pdf http://www.myoldrv.com/?p=452 RV deaths do occur from carbon monoxide: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,358109,00.html

RE: Where Do You Put Your Honda Generator?

"Where do you put your portable generator" Not trying to beat this to death but, one other point . We all need to be concious of other people that park near us. I don't mean us, i mean others that place their generators near us . FYI : i parked at a Walmart lot and went to sleep. Someone pulled in after i did and backed his rig butt to butt behind mine . He placed and chained up his honda outside on the pavement 25-30 ft. away from his rig aiming it at my rig, which was 10ft away from my door, i know , nice guy. If the wind was different, the situation might have been different . When i left early, i shut it off and hid it under his rig . He was probably too stupid to get the message. For those wondering, No, i didnt put anything in his gas tank . I felt like it, but didn't. Wayne , regarding outdoor use , be careful of the wind , the wind can blow the C02 back at you . Check the info. in this link. You can't smell C02 , no fumes to smell . It can be a Silent killer, no warnings. I know you have detectors and its elementary but, please check your detectors to make sure you are protected . Im just rrying to keep you as moderator for years 8, 9 , 10 etc . :) you know me buddy, i've bagged too many adults and children than i care to remember into body bags from C02 poisoning. http://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/eh/air/fs/generators.htm

RE: inspection tips for used Lance

http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/rvs/2884173480.html You might have a little wiggle room in the $$ . Off the top of my head i was thinking $1200 - $1800. depending on condition . The age of it is a minus and how it was stored could be a plus. If its been undercover all its life , then it might be worth a little more. Something that old ,sitting under the uv all its life , might be problems. Inspect that cabover window seal and all the caulk at clearance lights. Remember to check all low points where water will collect , by the city water hookup, where the wood is horizontal. Use a flashlight and your nose inside those cabinets !!!! http://www.nadaguides.com/RVs/1996/Lance/M-185-SQUIRE-LITE-86/Standard-Equipment

RE: Where Do You Put Your Honda Generator?

I chain it to a picnic table or tree away from the tc . If not avl. i chain it to the wheel and keep it away and downwind from the tc . I would not run it near the tc due to c02 , especially the rear door , they do not seal well . death from generator

RE: TC newb, how did i do?

Im not up on trucks specs of all models but sometimes its a better idea to find a good used 350 dually and forget the 250 upgrading process. seems like a heavy tc

Nice truck, best of luck with it . It appears as if some kind of wild animal has already gotten into it, just be careful . A similar thing happened to a tc guy and the animals stole his beer on top of it . click

RE: Camper for a short box truck

Whick OKan are you considering ? Is it the non slide 89ws ? Dont go by the dry weight ratings. If so, depending on options and all your stuff, plan for it to be about 3000-3500# rolling down the road. You will be a little over or at the max wt. rating on the rear axle. Upgrading the tires is a good idea. I have a Lance 845 (same floor plan as 89ws) on my 2500HD SB . Originally i installed AB's but then added the new stableloads by TL. The stableloads seem to do the job without too much air in the bags . I now use the bags for side to side leveling of the rig. I think if i were to do it all over, i would have a spring shop add one more leaf and be done with it . I would probably still use the stableloads to engage the overload springs faster. I'm ok with my set up , but would add more truck in the future. Having a little more rubber and a wider 7"-8" OEM wheel would better for me. I will probably do that with my next set of tires. Okanagan specs GM OEM 16x7 matches 265 tire

RE: Well this sucks... kinda

Please accept my sympathy . I'll admit that i don't really know how you feel , i have never gone through what you are going through, i can only imagine. I am hoping this situation turns out to be a wonderful opportunity for you. Now is the time to look into doing something that gives you pleasure. Sometimes we need a negative to give us the opportunity to make a positive. To open a door that we didn't know was there. You seem like a positive professional and that will take you to a new adventure that you can control. Did i mention that we could use a real good roving rv mechanic ? Someone who is on the road with a GPS locator. You would be able to travel and have others pay for it. We could also use a roving beer distributor . I'll bet that idea put some :B:B on some faces . Whatever your hobby is....do it on the road out of your tc . Best of luck , Bob .
