RE: Just want to say thanks!

It was for the NC Outerbanks! Woo! I'm glad our name was up next! KOA and Camp Hatteras are twice as much as Waves. We went there last year and wanted to go back, but didn't know the kids summer schedules until last week. Can't wait!

RE: Looking at used bunkhouse travel trailers.....

We started with a hybrid and loved it! It was a Jayco 26L that had one canvas bunk for my wife and I, and the rest of the trailer was fiberglass. The kids room had 4 bunk beds. You have to like climbing over each other because in the tent end, you sleep sideways. The GWV on that camnper was 6,000 if I remember correctly. We had a lot of fun before we traded it in on a bigger one.

RE: Holliday Lake State Park- VA

We like the VA State parks, but don't like their dog fees. "$5 per dog per night plus tax to a maximum of $15 plus tax per Dog" Ouch

RE: best way out of Danville

I use the 29 64 81 when heading to PA. I will do anything to avoid 95 Richmond, DC, Baltimore, Philly. No thanks!
We love RV Outlet USA in Danville, (Ringgold). They have a no pressure sales and everything is unlocked for your viewing. We enjoy browsing through their inventory every few months.

RE: Cheap way to meter electrical usage? Or just guess?

Make sure 'cousin' knows that your 50 amp is not 220 volts. It is two legs of 120 volts, but not wired like a dryer outlet.

RE: how big is too big???

We had a hybrid that we used for about 2 years, then we moved up to our current model, which is about 36 feet. We took it out west that first year and that one trip had 6,000 miles on it. We also like to weekend at state parks. It just works good for us. I did buy the ProPride 3P hitch and it tows with out any issues. I prefer having my truck bed as well, and I have a camper shell on it and the bedrug carpet in the bed. It has never kept us out of any campground. We love it and can't wait to use it again.

RE: wall-mart synthetic oil

I love all the slams on Fram. I have used nothing but Fram oil filters and Castrol on my 1991 Nissan Truck. It now has 350,000 miles.

RE: Tornado weather predicted

Tornadoes scare me worse than anything. Here in NC they usually come in the middle of the night when everyone is asleep. I know when a hurricane is coming, I get many days notice. Pretty much no notice of a tornado. I have a basement, but not much good if I am in bed upstairs. Maybe I should move master bedroom to the basement. Not sure the DW would go for that!

RE: Locked In... Be honest

I love my NC State Parks. Like others have said, no late night beers runs and guests driving in and out of the park. Some have the Rangers phone number posted if you need to get out. I was on-call for a hospital and told them that when I checked in. The Ranger gave me his cell and home phone number and said call if you need to get out. One park just drapes the chain the gate and does not lock it. As you can see, if you need to get out for a Real reason, you can. Just not for beer! (alcohol not allowed anyway...)

RE: Law & Order in the Federal Park System

The giving the false name was mentioned several times in the article. But she didn't know it was false until her 'truth serum stun gun' made him wise up.
She acted appropriately in my opinion.

A Friend is looking at a 2000 Prowler 29S

I have a friend that is looking at a 2000 Prowler 29S. I looked it up on NADA and without adding any options, the low retail is $2040, and average retail is $2460. I told him I would try and find out what he should offer for this model Prowler.
I think they were asking 7k for it, but said it was reduced to $6200 and they were willing to negotiate.
So what is a fair price to offer?
Thanks in advance.

RE: What to do with Curt Q5 20k Hitch

Not sure about the posting it every few days. If I know the hitch that I want, I look for that specific model. If I see one advertised every few days, I am going to offer way less than the asking price since they look desperate. I sold my Equal-i-zer hitch on craigslist for my asking price.

RE: What is the Deal

I helped my mom buy a car back in September. I had 7 dealers fighting for our business. And I never left the comfort of home. She knew what she wanted, and I did all the dealings on the internet. Of course they had my phone number, but they weren't too harassing. It was kind of fun having them try and out-do each other's offer. I told one guy that I had an offer much lower than his and he didn't believe me. Needless to say, he didn't get the sale.

RE: Co alarm

And I thought that the CO detector should be placed close to the floor... shows what I know!
http://chemistry.about.com/od/howthingswork/a/codetectors.htm
Here is one section from the link:
Where Should I Place a Carbon Monoxide Detector?
Because carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air and also because it may be found with warm, rising air, detectors should be placed on a wall about 5 feet above the floor. The detector may be placed on the ceiling. Do not place the detector right next to or over a fireplace or flame-producing appliance. Keep the detector out of the way of pets and children. Each floor needs a separate detector. If you are getting a single carbon monoxide detector, place it near the sleeping area and make certain the alarm is loud enough to wake you up.

RE: What is the Deal

Some States do not have a fee for freezing/thawing your credit. (NC is one of them). You just have to thaw it out so they can get the info for a purchase, then it is frozen again.
It keeps people from being able to check your credit, which keeps crimminals from opening credit in your name.

RE: Prepaid phones

Both of my kids have the walmart Straight Talk plan. Your phone determines what network you end up with. I tried calling them to find out and didn't exactly get the right answer. My daughter didn't like the first phone (which used AT&T) and now she has another phone that uses Verizon. My son opted for the fancy Android phone that uses Sprint. I enjoy having their plans not costing me and arm and a leg. My wife still uses Alltel's Prepaid plan. They are Verizon now, but we still get the 0.75 cents a day plan which gives you unlimited texting and free nights and weekend calls. Calls during the day are 10 or 15 cents. But for $22.50 a month you can't beat that plan.
