RE: Initial Solar Hookup only shows partial watts and amps

I just want to say thanks to everyone here for all of their help. I thought I had it figured out before the post but after all of my questions and your responses, I now have a much clearer understanding of the controllers and their capabilities. I have also learned that if you want to play, you have to pay :). I will probably be adding one more sx170 within the next couple of weeks.

No. It does not. Only battery temp display.

RE: Initial Solar Hookup only shows partial watts and amps

Worst case I would add a 120F snap switch and a small 12v computer fan to add circulation.Good call. I was just about ready to ask that question. Are you referring to something like this:

RE: Initial Solar Hookup only shows partial watts and amps

How about a pic of the three preferred locations? I am thinking about putting it next to my converter (which is out of site) and which is only accessible by removing a panel (kind of like a fake which is located in the thru-thru compartment. Since I will be utilizing the remote panel, the fact that I won't be able to see the controller should not be a problem.

RE: Initial Solar Hookup only shows partial watts and amps

Hi bkirk,
I would not turn down help from anyone, spellUng or not. It may be useful.
OP thinks ALMOT should learn how to spell since "May be" is actually one word.
I am not turning help down from anyone but I am getting tired of the "blasts". I am just trying to get answers given my particular rig's setup/layout.

That's a nice clean setup. But my propane compartment is very tight with barely enough room for the two propane bottles. I do have a through and through storage area but it is packed with items. BK.

RE: Initial Solar Hookup only shows partial watts and amps

The OP has read the manual from the site but is looking for real world mounting options and temperature issues. OP has a toy hauler and where the batteries are mounted all the way forward under the 5th wheel belly. OP does not have a dedicated exterior compartment solely for the electronic items and interior space is very limited. OP also has a large hole from his previous solar controller that will need to be filled and has explained in a previous post that the Rogue remote will do just that. OP thinks ALMOT should learn how to spell since "May be" is actually one word.

How warm will the controller get? Trying to figure a mounting location for it.

RE: Initial Solar Hookup only shows partial watts and amps

If you have any other voltage monitor in the RV I would skip the remote display and see how it goes. Can always be added later. If you have nothing else, go for it. JMHO.The problem is that I don't. Plus, I have a gaping hole from where my old monitor/controller was.

Rogue says it comes with both:
Included:
Remote battery temperature sensor and cable, 15ft.
Remote battery voltage sense cable, 15ft.

Where are the panels now? Mounted on the RV
New one what?Samlex = Controller
You are long on questions and short on info!Really? Actually, 3 other people were able to decipher my long winded question.

How long can I leave my panels "un-hooked" from the controller? I have to send my Samlex back and order my new one.

RE: Initial Solar Hookup only shows partial watts and amps

Head spinning yet? :)Yes, but it is a good spin. I have learned a ton with these posts.
Question: If someone was running a 24v system (6v battery banks) on their RV, how do they kick it down to 12v. I know I can find the specific Pos and Neg battery nipples that are putting out 12v but wouldn't that be a huge draw on that particular battery in the middle of the bank? Logic would be to get a 24v inverter/charger to handle the inverter portion of things. Is it same to assume that the remaining 12v items (12v lights, fans, etc.) would be OK to run off of the said battery posts.

RE: Initial Solar Hookup only shows partial watts and amps

I'd go with the Rogue 3024. It is state of the art and the perfect size.
I can get the Rogue 3024 direct for 325.00 or the Blue Sky 3024IL for 330.00 from a marine dealer?

RE: Initial Solar Hookup only shows partial watts and amps

Ok, a little question. In order for me to see "perfect" gains, (ie. above 15a charging) this would take place in optimal conditions and only at certain times of the day. Since I am at the 15a cusp of charging and don't plan to add on to the system (2x BP sx170 24v panels), would there be a problem with using something like the Blue Sky 1524ix?
During optimal conditions, with the panels I have, I calculate that the best I could ever hope to achieve would be 19.2a charging current. However, given a little Volt loss over the wires and other solar factors, I don't ever think I would get that optimal charge rate.

Just to confirm, what I have would be considered 24v panels? BP SX 170
