RE: Question! 6 - 8lug 16" wheels

I am just changing from 6 lug 15 inch to 8 lug 16 inch rims. The only way is to change the brake drums, about $160.00 each, rims and good tires will add another $1500.00. Will also replace shoes and magnets again as have 40,000 on this set. That beats the heck our of replacing a tire or two on every trip we take. I'll have $3,000.00 in it and a better than new rig, I hope!! PM me if you need any other information I can give you.

RE: FL trip

We make the trip form the Fort Myers area to Northern New Jersey at least twice a year. We always take I 80 to I 81 to I 77 then I 26 to I 95 to I 4 to I 75 and come in to Fort Myers. Too much traffic on I 95, maybe shorter but trip is longer because of the traffic. Suggest you go on line and see if you can get a site at Fort Desoto near Tampa. They have a really great park there. Another place to go is the Park right on Fort Myers Beach, might be full but worth a try. Check the RV RV review on line for campgrounds in that area. Well worth looking as the reviews are done by campers and what they find there. Have Fun!!!

RE: Springdale riding too low

Air bags, lot less expensive and you can reduce the air when not towing so the ride is not as harsh as with the redone springs will be. Mine can go as low as 8 lbs when empty, 100 lbs max limit, I load to 55lbs before I hook up the trailer and get a level ride with that. If I see that the load heavier or lighter I can adjust the air pressure in the bags. Bob

RE: Blew 2 Tires Within 100 miles!

I like to stay off interstates as much as possible so I was doing less than 55 today each time. Also I have never used anything but a chock on the tires. Going to go tomorrow and get a couple of Maxis as I found a place not far from here that has them, per the internet. Might get all four as am tired of changing tires and still have about 4,000 more miles to go before we get back home. Even though not having a problem with the Carlisle on the rear axle. Just starting out to go to a wedding in Northern New Jew Jersey. Bob

RE: Blew 2 Tires Within 100 miles!

Most of the suggestions I have been thru already. Unit rides level, put air bags on truck so I could level it out when I purchased the fiver in 05. Weight on axle is within 140 lbs of the axle behind it. Will look into the 10 ply tire as is cheaper than a new fiver or a new axle. All the brakes and magnets were replaced within the last year, 8,000 miles on them. All bushings are wet type and in good condition. All have been blowouts that just shredded the tire so cannot really check for anything on the tires. We put nearly 60,000 miles on before I had the first tire go. Second set were also Maxis 8 ply, but could not get them the last time I got tires so I went with the Carlisle, rear axle tires are still looking good and not wearing bad at all. I was told that Maxis are no longer made. ?? Bob

Blew 2 Tires Within 100 miles!

Sixty Miles after leaving home, BAM, right front on fiver let go. Changed to spare and back on the road again. Stopped next town and got replacement tire for spare. Less than 90 miles later, BAM again, this time left front tire. This one makes the second tire for each side that has blown. Four tires, same axle. Have checked alignment, air pressure each am, temp while running and weight. Help, ready to replace the whole axle except don't know it that will help. Two of the tires were Carlisle and two were Commodore, 8 ply,225/75/R15. Carlisle tires had about 3,000 miles and less than two years old. Commodore tires were less than six months old and only about 1500 miles. Bob

RE: King Size Bed

My fiver came with a queen size bed, no bedroom slide. I took one of the bedside stands out and combined it with the one on the other side, removed the queen platform and put in a California king size mattress. It did involve removing the entire shower stall, wash basin, storage closet and the molding for the entrance door. Since I had stripped the bedroom area already I also removed the interior walls, put in 2 inch Styrofoam block and paneled the walls. Was a lot of work but well worth it. Will be starting on the lower level soon as I get a plan together as to what I want to do

RE: Well I did it. $2,000 hit cab of truck forgot to use slider

I did the same thing to my Dodge. Had it fixed at a local body shop, 400.00 bucks. Dealer wanted $1,400.00 for the repair, local shot only replaced the damaged area as dealer was going to replace the whole panel which included the side of the cab also. Cannot tell it was ever damage. Have learned to move slide if anywhere close to cab.

RE: Road conditions to Florida

I would go another route, avoid the DC area at all cost. Lots of small tolls in Delaware, trailers not allowed on some roads,(Harbor Tunnel) bumper to bumper traffic all the way past Richmond Va if you are lucky. South Carolina I95 is really rough for the most part. I go north several times a year and now will only use I95 to to go to I26, I77 to I81 to go north. Better roads, easier traveling pulling by trailer. Lots of places to camp and plenty of areas to refuel. Bob Kick

MAY 2012 TRIP

Want to enter Canada on I 87, turn left and go to Alaska. Any one have any advise or have you done it already? Have been advised to take US 2 and enter Canada thru Montana. Have taken that way to west coast and prefer to go northern route this trip. Pulling 31 ft fiver. Want any information on routes, campgrounds places to visit and anything else I should know. Bob

RE: Water in underbelly mystery

Mine leaked in same area, turned out that there was a gasket left out at the bottom of the shower to the drain pipe. I had also noticed bottom of shower was not solid when moving around also. Only leaked when I showered, guess because I'm heavier than the boss. Added the gasket and reinforced the bottom of the shower, no more problem since then.

RE: Bad brakes - not axle alignment causes uneven tire wear!!

Sounds to me like the bushings in the shackles and springs ends are worn out. If the tire wear in on the either edge of the tire this is it. Cost about $250.00 (repair shop price, labor is most of the cost.)to have repaired using plastic bushings. I did mine using brass bushings to avoid having to do again in 30,000 miles again. Brass cost will be different for different units. Good luck
